Community College Hero: Releasing Soon

So are we going to get powers or are we just going to stay nonpowered?

Lol of course u can that’s understandable you liked that saying huh lol

What’s the name of your website?

@StarWarsMaster, Its not up yet but I’ll work on it in August. Are you at least 18 years of age and able to give consent for your quote?

Yes I am I’m actually 21 and yes you may use my quote

Yes, Kurt Russell among many other people ranging from Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Cloris Leachman.

An amusing film, but don’t worry it’s not that similar except in broadstrokes: Sky High is a high school as the name suggests, in which a child of two superheroes who has no powers of his own goes to, where he gets sorted into the second class student role of “hero support,” which is for muggles and for those with lousy powers.

Yes it was an cool film. I also can’t believe how beloved this game has become

Well, I worked in a good four hours of writing today but the update isn’t ready. I’ll keep plugging away this week. Goodnight to anyone still awake!

So we will be able to see it sometime today?

Link?

Thanks

Okay, the update is up. Whew!

So here’s a crazy idea I’m tossing around. What if I had this beta tested and released it as a Hosted Game as “Issue 1” of Community College Hero? It’s about 68,000 words and it took me about 70-80 minutes to read it at my last reading, plus I think it has good replayability with the different romances, study groups and such. I think it would warrant $1.99 as a Hosted Game.

It does end abruptly with a cliffhanger. Of course, writers do that in comics all the time. Daredevil or Batman frequently face some sort of dangerous situation at the very end of an issue. However, I know this isn’t a comic, and I know the next release won’t be next month, so readers will have to wait longer. Do you think this will alienate or otherwise antagonize readers? The good news is that I think I could finish Issue 2 by the end of the year.

Breaking the story into smaller pieces and getting something published would probably give me a lot of momentum (which I desperately need at the moment).

Also, regardless of your thoughts on the whole “Issue 1” idea, please point out:

  1. typos/spelling issues
  2. any stat/math issues you notice
  3. any continuity issues
  4. spacing issues (I know there will be many)
  5. also, please give me your thoughts on the new material, including the study group sessions and the cliffhanger ending.

I would VERY much appreciate it if posters would also do one of these things:

  1. Time your reading and post how long it took you reading it as if you read it for the first time (meaning no skimming)

  2. Try to get the highest or lowest possible relationship score for a character - please tell me who the character was and how high or low you managed to get it.

  3. Cut and paste the number of words you read

I appreciate your help on this! You folks are a great thread community.

Also, please advise of game ending errors. I played through the whole game twice tonight and encountered none. I ran randomtest and cleaned up a ton of bugs but it started pointing out an “error” that is not an error so I wasn’t able to run it after that.

Ack, I really don’t like the dialogue options when Dirty Girl asks us out.

My character didn’t see hanging out with her as a mistake, but isn’t interested in dating her either. My character just saw it as having a good time with a friend, like the option to have dinner dates with Origami as a friend.

Shouldn’t there be an option to call some classmates on the way?

For that matter, I can't help but wonder if the kids in the Contrarian's poem might not be the college kids, so calling everyone would be doubly important.

Hedonist’s first class: ‘today’ is spelt ‘todya’. Also, in Nil’s class, it says I can see three students, but it only lists two.

My study session with Origami and Mob said I got +1 Hmmm when I hid under the car, but my stats didn’t seem to change.

Will post more if I find them.

For the record, I DID get the +1 Shhh from studying Secrets, but I never got the +1 Hmmm from studying for HELL.

And you used my suggested name for clown girl! That’s awesome! (By the way, I spelled it like that to combine it with ‘Jinx’, implying she’s bad luck…hopefully for her enemies.)

I was a little upset that I wasn’t able to get into a romance this time, though. I only went through it once, so I’ll try again in case I missed something, but it was still disappointing…

Also, finally, my opinion on selling it as is - no. I’m not sure it’s long enough to be a full game yet, and I’m not a fan of the cliffhanger ending. It may work in comics, but with those, you just have to wait a month or so before the next issue comes out. The wait for this game would likely be much longer. I believe your original plan was to make this a trilogy - ideally, I’d say stick with that, but I’d understand if you need to separate it into more parts. I just don’t feel that the current demo is enough to be a full game yet.

Just my half a cent. ^_^;

When in the first lesson on HELL, if you’ve worked out with Stunner it’ll show his relationship bonuses in the old format (+20%) rather than the new one (moderate increase).

I liked the update I will give you more info after I get some sleep.

On the one hand, half-finished games are all the rage. Ever since Minecraft, people have been jumping on the alpha and beta bandwagon. Sadly it seems most such games are doomed to remain half-finished or worse. On the other hand, some are worth picking up though, because even though some elements are missing, there’s usually plenty to do.

But in a text-game, story is all you have. No fancy graphics, no mini games, no building or creating. I would say release it like that only if you desperately need money, though it could of course end up hurting your total sales and reputation in the long run… An open ending would be worlds better than a cliff-hanger as I see it. Cliff-hangers just frustrate people, in any medium.

I am retracting my “release as is”’ idea from last night. I will chalk it up to being tired and stressed from work and not seeing a realistic end in sight for the story.

I am simply not someone who can work on a project for 1 year + (it hasn’t been that long yet but I don’t see how folks work on a WiP for 2 years - it would drive me to drink!) without a product or result of some kind.

So I will work long and hard in August to add a large amount of content and give the story the closure the readers deserve. It shall be my Month of Triumph! THEN it will be ready for beta.

Keep posting errors, etc!
