Community College Hero: Releasing Soon

If you add a silent predator class, then could their upgrade be a blowpipe and choke wire? Using sleeps darts on enemies and some darts like these for pranks, Diarrhea dart, vomit dart, bladder dart, etc… You get the idea

@HornHeadFan I’m having fun playing this! Here are the stats for you.

1st run through was as a Brawler: A, C, C, A - 3.0 GPA
2Nd was as a Bullet: A, C, A, F - 3.25 GPA
3rd was as a Stinger: A, C, D, F - 2.0 GPA

4Th was as a Sniper: A, *But while Fighting Combat Wombat, I Chose to launch a distance attack and Got error - Line 761 bad label slingshotwin

5Th was as a Sniper: A, D, A, A - 3.25 GPA
6Th was as a Tactician: A, B, A, A - 3.75 GPA
7th was as a Detective: A, C, B, F - 3.0 GPA

In order to beat Stoic, thou must first beat Wombat in the dark fight(impossible for combat oriented classes:( ) and then use jump rope on Stoic. This also gives you a hint about her powers

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I spent the day at Wizard World Comic Con today and saw some awesome costumes and saw some cool celebs - Sean Astin, Dean Cain, and Michael Rooker. Anyway, I wanted to catch up on the thread and respond to some posts…

@Yamamato, yes Tacticians seem to shine in the Gauntlet. Those night vision goggles finally come in handy. And yes, why did Speck hire Hedonist? Did they vet him at all? Those questions may arise in the story.

@AdamGoodtime, welcome to the forums! I’m glad you think Hedonist is really (really) creepy. That was certainly the intention. And yes, I’m definitely toying with having someone report Hedonist. Of course there are consequences to everything, so it may not be the best move.

@Saracenar, I might add a “back out” option when I revise. I don’t want anyone to feel that they don’t get to chose their character’s response there. I totally wanted to tempt the reader to consider whether possibly getting a weapons upgrade was worth doing something they may not really want to do.

@Piggleywinks, Wow so you aced the HELL test every time? I’m guessing you devoted a lot of time to the test on the first playthrough and then memorized the answers, allowing you to load up on increasing stats for the other courses? Thanks for all the specific feedback too - I’m keeping track.

So do you all feel that the grades were balanced about the right way? It looks like most people hit at least a 3.0 on most (if not all) of their playthroughs. Of course keep in mind that if you promised 5 secrets to Nil you’re probably going to have to piss off at least a few classmates in the coming chapters.

@HornHeadFan That would be appreciated! It was the only time I felt like there wasn’t an option I wanted to take. I thought I could go along with whatever he was leading to, but I didn’t realise it was so vulgar, and wanted to back out at that point. You did a really good job making me feel uncomfortable though, so props to you!

I got 3.25 on my detective class. I think that the grades are pretty balanced. Not too hard to maintain a 3.0.

Also, (someone might have asked this already) when are you going to incorporate RO options in the game if any?

Oh in costume choice I think the option of having a trenchcoat ought to be included.

@HornHeadFan
Q: Since Stunner is holding a grudge against me for our team loss at the beginning (I never apologized and he hit me with an eraser to which I responded with “notebook violence” - lol) would I really call him after the news report? And Why can’t I call Uni? I haven’t been able to call her in any run-through.

Error: During fight with Uni she proposes that I throw the match. I chose to launch a surprise attack and got this error: Line 518 increasing indent not allowed, expected 0 was 1.

P.S. Yes, I studied hard for the law test the first time to ace it and then remembered the answers so I could always ace it. I will do some more run -throughs where I don’t ace it.

General comment: I’m spending this week revising the first four chapters and planning chapter 5. I feel like potential romances should at least have the foundations laid at this point, and I really haven’t accomplished that yet. I also want to better set the stage for secrets especially the ComWom and Uni scenes.

I was considering letting the reader spend time with all the main 9 in chapter two instead of having to choose between partying with DG, volunteering with Origami, etc. What are everyone’s thoughts on this? I thought it would give everyone a better feel for the supporting characters although it would take away a big choice.

Is there a way to beat combat wombat in the gauntlet using the brawler class?

817819, currently no. But I’m revisiting the 3 fights up to this point (capture the flag, mob spar and gauntlet) to consider adding new options/possibilities for success.

Another general question. Your health meter does move down when you get hit but I’m not sure if anyone realizes that, considering I don’t add (your Heath decreases by 20) in the text itself. Should I include that in the text or would it break immersion?

I also need to have a few choices affect your money. At this point I think only taking out Uni detracts from your cash.

So basically my revision list is:

  1. consider new costume options
  2. lay foundation for romance(s)
  3. lay foundation for secrets(s)
  4. revisit the three major combat scenes
  5. figure out what to do with money - maybe drop it completely?
  6. decide if I want to insert combat results in the text (“your health decreases by 20”)
  7. add a few more options here and there (perhaps to Hedonist “test”, etc)
  8. decide if I want to insert relationship modifiers in text (“Dirty Girl relationship +20%”)
  9. more ramifications for having “enemy” status with Origami, Stunner or ComWom.
  10. insert at least a short scene re: your elective class
  11. fix bugs!

I’d give some hint to it at least or you could put a bar in the stat screen. I’d definitely go with a bar for relationships

Well the stats screen has the health indicator and tons of relationship bars. I just didn’t know if I should make ramifications more obvious. I know Heroes Rise, Life of a Wizard and lots of other gamebooks put the ramifications in the text itself.

One last question - did you all like being able to pick among the equipment sets upon earning a 3.0 or do you think that classes should be forced to pick the equipment set for that specific class? The way I have it now gives the player more choice, but could end up with characters being jacks of all trades and masters of none, which really wasn’t I originally envisioned.

I envisioned “super bullets” and “super stingers,” heroes who really excelled in a few areas. I’m not sure how a low-level jack of all trades will help prevail in the end.

@HornHeadFan maybe you could make it based on class, but allow a bit of flavour text to give the player choice.

ie. brawler can get baton and riot shield or blackjack(club) and captain america style shield (just an idea)

i do think you have a point with the jack of all trades things.

great game love it so far

First off, love the game. Now for subjective suggestions. Please keep the situations possible to fail. It’s nice to occasionally get into a problem I can’t solve. It makes it feel like I don’t have MC power. However the importance of each event is extremely different. Most of the successes are relationship rewarded. Perhaps give a little weight to the earlier incidents (extra credit for winning CTF … etc.). Stats wise it would be cool to have to play your opening class to give that choice weight. However maybe allow players to splash a third attribute. This will allow both freedom and structure. Relationships probably could be sped up a tad. Different characters should probably have different speeds in which that progresses. Thanks for writing the game and keep up the good work.

@ceecrab
If you were born with the ability to make others around you do whatever you wanted, you’d probably have some mental issues too. Not that it excuses Hedonists, ‘pleasuring’ students, but his general creepiness is understandable. I still felt like punching him in the face, but there ARE two sides to every story.

You could make it so you can get good equipment for both elements of your character (Tazer and Smoke bombs) or really good of one. (Tranquilizer pistol or upgraded optics)
