Hmm, so the reason of the lack of appropriate response to Hedonist actions is because of game limitations.
On one hand i understand you that coding for too many possible variations in a choice game made by one person is impossible, and would make the game never to see the light of a day.
But still i must say that sadly i disagree with the decission you made. Topic of sexual abuse is too important in our world to treat it lightly or unaproprietly, so i think that if treating it with seriousness it deserves wasn’t possible, you shouldn’t have included that in the game. If Hedonist was “just” sleazy (for example he makes pass at you, but he doesn’t on every student, and certainly doesn’t offer a better grade for it) then the responses we are presented, would be enough. As it is, in my opinion, even the option to include a false “help get rid of Hedonist!” path, would be much better than how it is presented in game right now, that may look like Hedonist’s sexual abuse is not such a “big deal”.
@Mewsly I understand the reason of liking him in the way to like how character is written, not liking that character himself.
I don’t think anyone would like sexual abuser as a person Like i said earlier, mainly the fact that he is making the offer for paying his students with better grades for having sex with him, makes him a sexual abuser, and by that - a villain. For me, no matter what else hedonist does, he will be a villain because of that. Even if his intent isn’t nefarious, but he really does it because of his stupidity, thinking he is helping his students. Although from the game i got the impression that this is rather him trying to justify this for himself, trying not to see himself as a bad person because of his ruthless pursue of sexual pleasures, not looking at consequences; or just trying to justify it before the principal, hoping not to get fired. If he would be that dumb to really think he is helping his students with it to create bond and equal relationships, i doubt students could trust anything that he teaches that it isn’t equally stupid
@Ponku: hopefully we’ll be able to bring him to some kind of justice by the end of Part 3. I can understand Eric not wanting to deal with it just now, but he needs to get some kind of comeuppance, preferably one the MC can participate in.
Can you explain why it’s sexual abuse when none of the kids HAVE to do it
Sexual harassment and abuse of power yes, but I’m having trouble seeing the sexual abuse part
Honestly, I think you should take as much time as you need with the story to make it as good as it can be and not “just another super hero story”. As much as I think the six powers idea is awesome and could be nerfed to avoid being too broken, @HomingPidgeon has a point I hadn’t yet considered. Taking the easy way out tends to have negative repercussions when it comes to writing.
But that’s just my thoughts tho
Well, in short, he fits the definition of sexual abuser (not “just” sexual harasment or abuse of power, which he is doing to everyone), because we know that there is a sexual contact with atleast some of his students.
He is in a position of power over them and coerces them into performing sexual acts on him, with offering them better grades. It’s not even the same as paying for sex, because students are in a position that a good grade may weight on their entire future and him having power over it also suggest that not angrying him would be more preferable, therefore they are more inclined to fall into his abuse.
“Over 2300 years ago, Aristotle recognized that the whole can surpass the sum of its parts. Now with cutting edge technology, a person can harness the thoughts of others, forming a well-oiled fighting machine and even stealing the thoughts of adversaries. The battle computer can mold its wearer into the ultimate tactician, exponentially enhancing the effectiveness of allies while anticipating the opponent’s next move. And soon it will be yours.” (page break) “But for now, it belongs to the Earth’s most intelligent person. And Booksmart isn’t known for sharing her toys.”
I am going to give my answer, though it is probably not what everyone wants.
I believe it’s better to keep things simple. I do think that when a person knows a ton of work is coming soon, it is normal to lose motivation. So, knowing that, I would like you to try and do what you think would keep you motivated, you know? Sometimes what people expect gets in the way, so it’s great from you to ask these questions.
If you use the upgrades later rather than sooner, it would be fine by me, to be honest. But I do know some people want to rule the universe in issue 6 right away…
I know that’s why I want to be the one to kick his ass. If we take this to court he’ll just get a slap on the rist AT BEST due to the fact he has enough money to afford an OP Lawyer. Don’t even get me started on the connections he probably has. I’m just waiting for till we get an excuse to crack his marble skull. Every super powered being has a kryptonite, we’ll find his
That might not be the case for other students though. It’s possible that students who took him up on his offer didn’t have another choice, that they might’ve been failed out of the program if they didn’t do what he wanted. Or there might be students who wanted to transfer to Savior someday who thought that if they said no they’d never get the chance. He’s an authority figure with a position of power over people barely into adulthood (barring Crook), and we don’t know what he said to anybody else to coerce them. Nobody who he makes that offer to is in a particularly good position to say no
Not in criminal court, though. Media court. If it works, he’ll be toxic, even if he does get off without punishment. No super team will want him with them. That’s what I mean when I say I want to destroy him.
I get that’s a possibility. Not everyone in this school is the best at being a student.
That though I can’t agree with. Why would you want to go to a super hero school that you could only get into if you bang a stranger??? I’d rather take the high way than his way. Even if I wasn’t the MC and had no idea I’d go far, I rather take my chances and get this sicko thrown in jail (or worse) then get reputation points for that. But I do understand not everyone has the same mind set as me and could be far more weak in terms of morals. His a biggger issue than I took him for at first.
Well I figured less “bang me or you don’t get in” and more “well I’m the only person from this school that you’re in contact with now, and at this point in your life it’s reasonable to assume that I’ll be the only person from this school that you know for a pretty long time, and I advertise myself as a person with some standing at that school, so if that’s your goal it definitely looks like keeping me happy is the best way to give yourself a good chance and that if you anger or disappoint me I could tank your application.”
I mean it isn’t a perfect example but a lot of the kids at Speck are there sort of as a last ditch to be a hero. I wouldn’t even necessarily say a kid who falls prey to him has any moral or personal failing, even just from a physical standpoint he’s huge and intimidating, he’s socially a lot more influential than you and could probably tank your future career if he had it in his mind to.
My main point is just that he’s a very imposing, intimidating figure and there’s a lot of reasons a student who doesn’t want to sleep with him would feel forced to
My MC has a bit of a different view. From their perspective the Hedonist is just a sleazeball, a total douche in need of beingg taken down a peg but ultimately harmless. They feel this way because of one simple fact: They aren’t penalized for not sleeping with him. He’s clearly annoyed when they decline but doesn’t take any action against them. They have no reason to suspect this is different for any other student and thus don’t consider him that much of a problem. He’s sleazy, yeah, but not a monster from their perspective.
The thing is - students don’t know that before trying to say no to him. Him just making that “offer” to everyone already define him as sexual predator, even if MC learn that there are no consequences ( other than not having better grade) of refusal. MC learns that atleast two of their collegues were also harrased, one of which did fall to the abuse.
But, i guess a kind of selfish MC may not think about the broader consequencess of Hedonist’s actions and therefore not consider him for the person he really is. We get a broad spectrum of characters we want to roleplay, so we can roleplay being selfish too
