Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

What, and have the MC not be ridiculously overpowered? But then what were they doing slumming around without powers throughout the entire first part for?

If your hero is going to start out as a nobody, then they should either work out how to make that work for them, or they should become the most awesomely overpowered being in the history of ever.

Okay so MC can become Iron Man, Batman or Martian Manhunter (with lasers!)

Sounds balanced to me! -runs off to write before my mind can be changed-

Don’t get me wrong, I love being that special character. Having everyone dazzled with how powerful I am, but not if that means my powers randomly shut off or something :disappointed:

Good luck man!!! I’m glad we could help make the story better😎

Oh thank god someone said it. That kind of stuff can be justannoying if it pops up too often

Do you think that can be the perfect trigger to have Downfall come back and give us proper training?

You mean, where we accidentally break her arm as we flip her over? :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously, if this comes about, I’d much rather see her as a private tutor; she would not be coming back to the college in real life due to politics inside the faculty but I’d love to have her come back into the story and help our MC deal with her/his new powers.

I wonder why the link isn’t working

On Oct 3rd, Dropbox changed their operations, making gamelinks fail. @Eric_Moser said he’ll be switching hosting sites with the new update in 12 days.

This is why the link isn’t working, unfortunately. @Eric_Moser said he’s working on it though!

OK thanks for the info

I have mixed feelings about this idea.

On one hand, it would fit better with the structure of the game. Yes, it makes more sense to have three routes, rather than two routes and another route which leads to other three routes.

But on the other hand, I can’t help but feel that that kind of hero wouldn’t belong to this universe. Every hero we’ve seen so far has one main power or a set of powers that revolves around a main theme. Suddenly, having a hero that displays such a disparate set of powers feels a little bit weird.
Also, it doesn’t seem very fair that we can get this when our classmates can’t.

But who knows? Maybe you can create a whole new narrative that makes this idea work perfectly. I trust your judgement to chose whatever you think would be better for your story.

Yeeeaahh a private tutor would be the most beneficial and logical course of action. The last thing we need is Tress seeing her and going on a rampage.

EDIT: Plus i really want Downfall to teach us Krav Maga :smirk:

I honestly would like you play up this angles. Everything has a price and non-powered MC has to work hard to get in a position that’s useful for the team, maybe so hard that they wish to think that having powers would make everything just easier, so it would be “nice” to see the disillusion, when MC gets to feel the drawbacks of superpowers by themself.

Unreliable could also mean - besides just not working at the right time - that the powers may act up when used too extensively: Used telepathy a whole day to get a better vibe for the people surronding you? What when it ends with you just not be able to turn it off anymore? Good luck trying to sleep while hearing the thoughts of everyone around the whole street (probably also something that reasonable would prevent ouch from decreasing).
Flying is great, but does anybody ever know how to come back ashore? Just imagine MC hoovering about 10 cm over the floor until some student who can fly tries to explain them how to stay grounded.
Super strenght? Well, great you just broke off the door knob.
And energy fields? Maybe they start without aptable size? Can’t turn them off and tell your friends to just hug the energy bubble. Also good luck trying to hit that villian when your energy fields don’t cooperate. Well if all fails MC still can try out an “hamster wheel” attack. (…okay I would actually chuckle at this)

…Do I even have to start what could go wrong with lasers?

You could make all paths come into their powers - having them be unreliable and hard to control. and making the paths be whether you want to deal with powers that you cant seem to control

  • tactician could decide to rely an his/her intelligence and team instead
  • Dr Stench could decide that gadgets would be a more reliable and proven method
  • and zenith would be all about focus and learning to control your sporadic powerset
there would have to be a significant scene of a failed attempt to use your emerging powers to encourage the other paths
Like maybe another run-in with wyveren and getting schooled publicly (our just in front of friends - and causing harm to someone…) maybe the decision that you just don’t have the time needed to learn to control this sort of thing before your upcoming battle.

Yes. YES. YEEEEEEES. UNLIMITED POWEEEEEEER! On a serious note, having all powers is something I fancied about pretty much since the first time I read the options…So fuck yeah.

You know,I was daydreaminga few days back, and I wondered what would happen if we just got ALL the powers. That would be pretty cool,I told myself

And here we are, getting all the powers. Sweet.

How about this. The higher your pow is, the greater control you have over your strength. The lower your thud stat is the weaker your control over shield is?
Cause keep in mind just cause you have versatility doesn’t mean all your powers have high potency.

I like the idea of a stamina bar the best, personally. For example, you have 20 stamina at the beginning of a battle, and you would need 2 stamina to do a specific move. If you run out of stamina, and the battle is still going, you would have to resort to other methods.

Not teally a fan of that. My character sucks at pow and thud and then also having to suffer no control over the only powers that could somehow compensate that sounds even more annoying (especially because one of those is my MC’s favorite superpower…I’m all for disillusionment but that would be even for me a little bit too bitter). Nah, the possebility to level up a limited number of the powers sounds nicer at least for me.
