Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

or when they have to be calm. staying calm under pressure is a hard skill to learn. and whenever the villain monologue would push buttons they’d get their powers back unknowingly.

I just realized something. We never really learn the specific Grades each important Speck Students.
Anyone wanna bet that Stoic is a grade [quote=“StrayPuppy, post:2349, topic:12179”]
It’d be cool if MC’s power would be to turn-off zpowers for a short period of time. It would make the playing field even, and wouldn’t forsake the stats you’ve accumulated.

Soooo many mixed feelings about this. This would save Eric an incredible amount of time and energy as well as make use of the training in skills we gained during and before the MC’s time at Speck. Your enemies wouldn’t necessarily be helpless, just lowered a few grades. Plus the training DownFall gives you would definitely help inforce.

My only problems with it is that it’s useless against none Zeniths, you’re basiclly still just a human, might take the fun out of the bigger fights, and how would it work?
Do u gotta touch em? Is there some kind of Zenith nerfing aura rapped around your body?
Do you have to be looking at who you’re nerfing?

I really have to give this idea some thought.

The Dr. Stench path is well mapped out in my head.

The tactician path is well mapped out in my head.

The Zenith path has always been the most “up in the air” because frankly it could go in so many different directions. I really like the idea of just having ONE Zenith power set instead of my old (and far too ambitious) plan have offering multiple powersets in the Zenith route. In fact, I’m pretty much set on just offering ONE Zenith powerset, so I want to make it as interesting as possible, without overshadowing the other two paths. So far, we’ve tossed around…

  1. An electricity power set (seems like it’s usually reserved for villains? Electro! Livewire! Could help the Speck 7 shore up their offense!)

  2. A Pow/Whoosh power set where the MC gets stronger and faster as MC takes more punishment (plays on the “punching bag” theme and from a writer’s perspective allows me to keep having the MC get pounded in scenes while finally dishing back some punishment!)

  3. Now this “nullifer” power set (plays with “Captain Powerless” perfectly! Is pretty unique. I can see Dirty Girl saying, “Wait…your only power…is to take away our powers? You’re a f’n buzzkill, CP!” Oh and it could really play out in an interesting way in Part 3, although I’d still have to be able to have it make sense in the “teaser” beginning scene of Part 1 where the MC is getting tossed around by the Dozen’s “Big Three.”

I had considered letting the MC “borrow” other characters’ powers, just because that would be a fun way to let the reader experiment with other power sets for short periods of time, but it looks like Versus really beat me to the punch on that one! So I will create a poll!

Okay I screwed up on the poll but work beckons and I can’t make it prettier! It should still work fine!

I’ll check on results in a day or two!

Dang, i guess we know the winner.
Oh well :disappointed_relieved:
At least it’s not a bad power

It’s a pretty awesome power, if you think about it. For years (well, months), we’ve been fighting only with our own wits and strength. And now? So are they. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

(I do wonder who voted for the blank spot, though…)

I guess. Still not as cool as laser eyes and forcefields. :boom:

I remember that @Eiwynn made a pretty solid argument about why the Punching bag wouldn’t be such a nice idea, and I think she was right.

The zenith nulifer? I don’t know. I think that it could make some of the battles look kind of anticlimactic and I don’t know if it could have some similar issues.

I think that the electric powers would be the least challenging of them all.

I also recall someone saying that the tactician route will be related to Hmm and Shh, the Dr. Stench route would be related to to Zap and Thud, So wouldn’t it be better if the Zenith powers are related to Woosh and Pow?

I was hoping for a brooding mind-reading detective

But that’s nothing to do with the theme of the story: that you don’t need powers to be a hero. If your power is literally no powers, that really fits the theme.

We’re fighting them on a level playing field. Only it’s our level playing field, not theirs.

I don’t disagree about the story theme, I just really like explosions.

At last, an MC to which I could actually relate to.

Yeah I explained why electric powers would work well with the tools we have now. It would inhance musle growth, reflex speed, running speed, and you get to punch out people with Stun Jabs. While not being able to fire off that electric energy in a Goku fashion because after all u just got your powers so your control would be trash at first. The number of things electric based powers can do will give u the potential to rival the dozen at the end of the series in an epic way. I feel like the Tactician route should be about how you can be a hero without powers, not the Zenith route. Regardless, i’m happy with what ever Eric goes with, he has already proven he can make the most simple of things fun. I’m just stating my opinon

As much as I love the punching bag and electricity powers, the power to nullify powers is so cool.

But, but, Static is a superhero!

Love that guy, he taught me a lot when I was a kid

Ooh. I didn’t expect that suggestion to take root. But now imagine being able to touch Stoic…

I would love to take away one of the strongest Zenith power ever, and then take them out with a KO punch!

WEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL IT’S THE MC!!!

Imagine touching Hedonist with your null-power, right before a certain someone happened to tackle into him :no_good:
