Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

And here I am listening to heavy metal while fighting stunner in the classroom and tying stoic up with a bit of rope, it really does add a new level of intensity to school life let me tell you

@Eric_Moser Is it possible for the players when drving trying to find wyvern to be able to get them to stop without scolding them or telling them off, I mean after all we could be very friendly with both DG and Stoic so shouldn’t we be able to get them to stop without taking a hit to our relationship with them? Just asking if it is possible for that choice to be added at least I was hoping that even if we told them off we could have a choice where we just more or less jokingly told them off like what friends might do, just something I would think would be cool to have.

P.S. Sorrybout my shit writing.

Just checking in to confirm I am still alive. The sale of our house should take place in late February and we are still looking for a new house (seeing four today!)

@Blackbeard, since “being friendly while still getting them all to shut up” would be the obvious “best” choice, I can’t offer it. I intentionally loaded each choice with pros and cons.

And I read some of the posts about “tone.” All I can say is that I wanted it to be more “realistic” than anything else, so I didn’t go for either “darkity dark dark dark” or “jokey jokey artichoke” because life is neither of those things. Life can be perfect one minute, and gut-wrenching the next. You laugh over a beer, and then later that night someone’s kid is rushed to the hospital with a life-threatening injury. I tried my best to “mix it up” and I’ll continue to do that, to the best of my ability, going forward.

I should add that it’s still some of the best work I have ever read :open_mouth:

Thank you very much

I get what you’re trying to do, I know that I usually criticize a lot. But don’t take it as an offense, I like your work. In fact a lot of media that I love has tone problems and I still like it.

But just because life is like that, it doesn’t mean that the same will work in a fictional story. I might think that it would’ve been better if you reserved the dark stuff for part 2, like an Empire Strikes Back sort of thing.

I’m just trying to offer a viewpoint that you might like to consider, especially if you still have plans to adapt the story in a different media later.

I’m still looking forward to part 2.

Hm… I think I found a typo… "17. Let’s examine how much money you spent last fall! Yes, Professor McCormick says that you can consider this an audit.

Did you by a Streetsmart lunch box? "

This I a syntax error I found after the fake wyrm encounter “I may not be the one to do it, but I think one of my classmates will taken** down Wyvern”.

Well, we put in an offer on a house yesterday afternoon and it was accepted! As long as the inspection goes through okay, this should be my setting for writing the second half of CCH Part 2. There are even writer-friendly features like a bubbling creek and a covered deck.

I know this might be off topic, but holy crap. That new house looks beautiful.

That lovely creek outside, the antique design of the house and the surrounding area which is filled with beautiful trees just makes that place look amazing.

I wouldn’t have posted it if minded responses! The neighborhood does seem very peaceful. Actually, the neighborhood is its own little city with its own little mayor and government, etc. One day I shall be mayor!

And I will be much more focused on CCH once we close a month from now. It’s been hard to get “into the zone” with boxes stacked up all over the place.

The creek would be my favorite writing place. I listen to creek-sounds in the background while writing as is.

Perhaps you could even build a writer’s corner near the creek one day - have a Kurig to make tea, perhaps a mini-fridge for a cold drink in summer … yes, very nice.

The creek is a powerful tool legends have told of it’s wonders. Once upon stumbling towards this creek the listener is filled with a great joy and fills there creavity to the max. (I’m not trying to be sarcastic just wanted to make a funny post)

I just went through the WiP of CCH2, and holy crap MC could be Zenith! It’d be cool if MC’s power would be to turn-off zpowers for a short period of time. It would make the playing field even, and wouldn’t forsake the stats you’ve accumulated.

This. I love this. It makes DG’s suggestion of Captain Powerless hilarious foreshadowing!

@StrayPuppy Oh I have to admit this could have hilarious (and profound) consequences.

The MC as a Zenith nullifier? Oh my goodness, the plot tension that could be created with your own Zenith bar, having to pick and choose when to nullify the powers of those around you, based on who you’re with, your opponents, the environment, etc., and then when to flip everyone’s powers back on again! It could also create little “time outs” in battles, giving a realistic way to insert a some dialogue into action scenes (I hate when comic book characters give speeches while swooping through the air, flipping around 10 thugs, etc.)

Maybe I could allow the MC to train MC’s powers for duration, range, reliability, intensity, etc. I’d need to find ways to make sure the ability is not overpowered.

And this might be my favorite idea in days! Weeks! Months!!

Something like a power nullification EMP? One way of not making it OP would be to make it so that the MC can’t selectively choose whose powers to short out, and/or make their control over their powers limited at first, like say triggering whenever they experience strong emotions - which would be one way of increasing tension with the group.
