Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

Aight,that sounds pretty neat.

One thing I thought about is the transportation of the Whoosh. You stated that it was super speed. However,in the story it suggests that it could be flight.

Luckily,I found a superpower called Electrokinetic Flight, which is the ability to fly, glide and levitate using electricity.

On top of being better in terms of transportation than super speed,it also carries greater risks, which can balance it out.

I don’t know about you,but I would NOT want to run out of electricity while flying.

Here’s the link: http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Electrokinetic_Flight

Thanks for the link. The comments made me curious and apparently bioelectromagnetism is a thing. The thermal effects are particularly interesting and could add more risk to flying if we aren’t careful.

Would it make sense to be able to draw energy from electromagnetic fields? Should we be able to interact with magnetic fields to reduce electricity usage? Surely Combat Wombat could produce magnetic fields…

Out of curiosity, do you think that would end in a crunch, splat, or a disgusting mixture of both?

I like what you’re going for but I feel as though it would be unfair to have a character who has electrical powers, but can’t shock anyone . At the very least we should limit the electrical damage to those the MC hits physically while the power is active.

As for other forms of energy, that’ll take some more spit balling. We could try Electro Magnetic energy but maybe we should have some more power training before getting something that OP. The things that ability can do are crazy

I completely agree with the rest of your statements tho

You’ve got a wild page_break:

Point taken and I wouldn’t mind having the ability to give Tress’s hair a little bit of a static charge. At least enough to give her a bad hair day. Maybe it could be strong enough to injure but not kill since powers will be newer to us.

It would probably help if we stick to kinetic, potential, electric, and magnetic forms of energy. As interesting as other forms of energy are, I think it would be too much to figure out how they’d work with our powers. Kinetic energy could easily be absorbed from a punch and be stored as potential energy then converted into electric energy. Would energy be lost during the conversion and would the ability only be worth it if you’re hit hard?

What if it’s limited to giving the ability to fly, to begin with at least? I don’t know if the MC would understand how their powers would work or not. Although, if they understood how a power like this would work, they could easily reach Mega Cat’s power level.

Honestly, I probably think too hard about things like this.

Agreed

Yeah it’s best we keep it within the range of what electricity can do. The energy bonus from getting hit should only occur for physical attacks that deal 20 or more damage. We get more power when hit with electrical attacks

Yeah the physical speed as well as strength enhancements and flying would be a great starting point for a electricity noob who already has a really well trained body. The MC is a Amateur Boxing Champ if I recall

With the training Captain California and Downfall are offering not to mention the potential electricity has, that may very well be possible. As long as the MC works hard and gets the experience needed.

Trust me, imho when doing a super hero story a writer should think at least this much if they want to make sure they don’t sound ridiculous when they try to explain why their character is so powerful or how the power works. Something I’m sure Eric has down to a science. Don’t sweat it

Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve got some ideas regarding the “I wanna have powers path”. Using too much logic options and “powerless” options pretty much invalidates the point of choosing the path imo, but on the other hand, creating a story for each power set will take too much time and will probably be a pain to code?

Is is possible to determine the most chosen powers in CCH1 (I chose force fields btw, so cool) and “railroad” the MC into one of the top three or four? Like if the player did not choose one of the top three in part one, their power will be dependent on their stats?

And there also has to be a reason for the MC’s powerset right? An origin explanation maybe? It would be cool to develop powers in the vein of comic books too. For example, being beat into a pulp by Wyvern did something to “awaken” your dormant powers?

Is the power going to be railroaded like in the Heroes Rise trilogy? (this would make for better storytelling since you can focus on only one superpower but would limit replayability)

Completely new and not part of the choices in CCH1? or is it going to be one of your choices?

@The_Otaku_Dragon_Sla

Agreed, but one quick question, how does the 20 damage thing translate to fairmath? To be fair, I don’t think fairmath is a good way to measure health or damage anyway, but the alternatives would require more coding.

I’d prefer training with Downfall since she can show us what we’re capable of and because I don’t like Captain California. I would argue MC has already been working hard, but they would probably need to work harder to catch up with the others (some more so than others).

I trust Eric knows what he’s doing. If he goes down this route for powers, I don’t think he has as much work to do now.

I just thought of something.

So it’s clear to us that our powers in the Zentih route will most probably be super strength and super speed/flight.

In Downfalls exam, she not only had the ability to copy powers to it’s full potential, but supposedly had enhanced speed and strength?

What if here enhanced speed and strength weren’t original, but a copy of our OWN powers at full potential? It’s far fetched, but you never know.

Good question
I have no idea

May i ask why you don’t like him? I’m just curious

You and me both. I wonder if his considering the electrical power idea

Anything is possible so I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the case.

 • Teach you how to use your high “Hmmm” stats to detect Zenith Pressure Points
 • Teach you a new Material Arts Style
 • How to better use the powers or skills you already have
 • How to use powers in sync with your martial art style
 • Have you spar with Prestige students

What do you think is waiting for players who got offered personal training from DownFall

@The_Otaku_Dragon_Sla, Excellent work, brilliant really , I think you just came across something of note.

Powers in the Speck-Verse, (And I shall continue to refer to it as such until someone gives me a better name, or the Eric hits me with Canon…Either or.) Stem from exposure to “Zenith” radiation early in development (Children, teens and very young adults,Or there would be FAR higher incident ratio of zeniths.) something which was at least believed to be able to withstand or outright shield population.
Which is pretty impressive in and of itself…(Though one would wonder how the cities got their food and water, lease of all air… But I digress.)

As such, the Zenith radiation appears, at least according to Captain-Cali-Surfer-Baze master, to be lingering or within the bodies of those you have powers. As he mentions The Zone, with capitals implying that its more than just putting on your game face, and connected to the well spring of energy that Zeniths use, and their must be some source or else Characters would not be getting tired from using their powers, as they have been shown to do so, as he does say the Zenith radiation that makes us special lingers in their bodies…Perhaps as a power source for the power they are naturally using, or being produced as a side effect of Power usage. Both of these possibilities are worrying, but, if this radiation (either as power source or waste product) functioned on a similar enough to the circulatory system or really any system in the human body, someone could, if armed with something capable of interacting with said forces (Perhaps electricity, or maybe general kinetic force will do.) block the ‘Flow’ of the Zeniths radiation, which could have any number of effects…If we of course accept that his is possible, but with the fact that Powers actually have a traceable, tangible source, is not as far fetched as someone saying they can block a mutants power from X-Men or something.

Though on a slightly different note, if you didn’t know what powers the MC could get from a Zenith run through, what power could you think of?
Like, Being able to speed up objects in your field of View (Think throwing a pebble and having it fly at the speed of your sight, or making your friends move faster), Self telekinesis, Shield creation ( But imagine instead of making it thick, making it thin so it has edges and placing it in-front of something moving fast.), Empower-ment giving someone else super strength or super speed, Portal creation ( Think the Portal gun, throw something into the air and watch as it gains speed faster and faster as it falls through the two portals.) Areokinesis ( Air bending…Imagine the possibilities, stop all the air particles from conduction sound and your opponent loses their balance or can’t hear you, or just take their breath away.) Precognition (Do I need to say anything else.) Weight manipulation, Minion creation, being able to control insects, being able to create suggestions like geises, intangibility, ect.

Where is the “Have a cuddle session” option?

I’m disappointed in you.

I wanna take those snobby Prestige bastards down a notch (includes you Stunner).

I thought it was unclear if DownFall was connected with Prestige - from what I recall, she seemed to be an independent operator, not associated with a school? I might be mis-remembering however. If that is the case though, I suggest she lets us Batman around with her - you know, brutally taking down criminals - as her Robin or something.
The way I feel about Captain California somewhat mirrors the way others feel about Hedonist. At least with Hedonist we have a choice (I’ll agree to disagree for anyone who feels differently), with Captain California it doesn’t matter if we refuse to give up our secrets or not. We’re forced to give them up and, to me, this is the worst violation of privacy and consent. In this book he justifies what he did by using spying as an excuse and how many of the other students are okay with that? The worst kind of rapist is one that justifies what they’ve done. If we get the chance to ruin Captain California’s reputation and the Smarts’ reputation, I’d take it in a heartbeat. Everything about that man sickens me.

Then there’s Origami’s death. I have a problem with him telling the MC they’re lucky to be alive right after helplessly watching Origami get blown to bits. Would you tell the sole survivor of a plane crash, someone probably had a spouse and children on that plane, that they’re lucky to be alive? What if he had said that to Crook instead of the MC? Before that he disses Mega Cat and Prestige, what have the Smarts and Savior been doing that Prestige hasn’t? This is the wrong time and place for their little feud. On the other hand this scene is why I have some respect for Hedonist, there’s so much he doesn’t say when he apologizes. It’s a good scene and Eric writes great characters, otherwise I don’t think I would feel one way or another about them.

I don’t know how Nil would have graded us, but at least, if we chose to give up secrets, we would be doing it out in the open and not behind each others’ backs. For all I know we could’ve failed by giving up our secrets to Nil.
Not gonna lie, I hope he is.

@AAO That’s obviously the case, Downfall is just too awesome for that not to be true. :stuck_out_tongue:

Let’s just agree that everyone from Savior is a poopyface.Let’s also agree that everyone from Prestige is a poopyface.

Everyone except the people of Speck are poopyfaces. That is the rule now.

I think she’s an independent sidelining as a professor at Prestige who in turn lent her to Speck so she’s sort of loosely affiliated with Prestige (I think I’ve got that right)
