Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

If I recall correctly, isn’t the only way to get an A in that class to sleep with him? I think otherwise you’ll get a B no matter what. Might be wrong, but also what @Ponku said.

Yup, only way to get an A is to give into his advances.

Part of it is that in my MC’s eyes, anyone he could potentially romance is in a position of power that he can’t reach at this stage. At the very least they can cause him serious injury fairly quickly if he makes the wrong move. Of course, he’s also somewhat wary of Zeniths so

Really? My Soldier got an A without giving into his advances. He focused entirely on Defense, though I might have thrown in something else that helped

Same here to be honest

I understand the everyone has strong feelings about The Hedonist , but all this happened in the first book and it has already been published so there is no changing what already happened. Eric is not going to kill him off, so if you don’t like him just stay away from him.
As for the other questions of powers and upgrades:

My first thought is that I’ve NEVER hear of a super hero that actually got to pick his/her own super power. So for simplicity’s sake just pick a power (or combo) and let the MC dream of what power they might end up with. Pick a combo that will make sense and be fun for you to write. Don’t try to please everyone because you can’t.
Now as far as upgrades go, I thought you had already decided that you were going to make everyone on equal ground after the first Wyvern fight. something like “The dean has decided the wyvern threat was too big for you to run around with sub-par gear so everyone (who wasn’t able to get them last semester) gets the upgraded gear” I do think that those who did get the upgrades last book should get a better “reward” in the Wyvern fight than those who didn’t (even if it is just less ouch).
I really think we need to grow in some way in this book as far as “powers and abilities” go, I think holding off till the next book would be counter productive. If we have to spend a whole semester “investigating” a way to stop the manipulator, and then have to wait till the next book to see the fruits of our labor, it would leave us unprepared for the final fight or too demoralized to succeed. If there is too much story to fit it into book two, then at least give a satisfying path of succession or even a cool new toy (gear) to help us deal with these new threats we need to face. Anyway my point was it seems to me that going a whole book with out an upgrade to our abilities would be unsatisfying (What were we doing all semester?)

I don’t want Eric to kill him off. Weither we like it or not we need his knowledge and protection. I doubt The Manipulator is gonna come to speck on her own so back up is great. I’m just saying if we get a chance to make him pay we will.

Now that oeople are talking about the Hedonist, and some have the desire to romance him. I would like to share my opinion.

And I honestly think that there is no base in wich a romance with the hedonist could work. And I am not even talking about what it could imply in a legal way, but instead I think that it has more to do with how the character is presented , and especially in contrast with the other romantic options of the game.

So far the interactions we had with him aren’t exactly romantic. Honestly , I think that the Hedonist comes closer to a predatory monster who seduces inocent young students (I might be exaggerating a bit) rather than a healthy an reasonable romance option. Wich is kind of troublesome.

When I really think about it, I can’t help but contrast it to the students romantic interactions, all of the young heroes seem to have legitimate and reciprocate feeeeeelings for the MC, in case you decide to pursue a romantic relationship with them.

This is not the case for the Hedonist. It might be the sexy teacher archetype, and its relation with the idea of corrupting the idealistic young heroes (I might be exaggerating a bit). Anyway, the interactions with this character do not allow fir the same romantic elemments that the other characters had.

Sure, some people find the Hedonist hot, and they are not necessarily wrong. But I don’t think that hot would constitute a solid base for him as a romantic option. Especially considering the uncomfortable elements that keep surrounding him the whole time.

After thinking about it today, I’ve decided to allow a small amount of progress on the MC’s upgrade journey, but no payoff on that particular plotline until Part 3. There is just too much going on in Part 2 to give those journeys the breathing space they need. Part 2 has all the moving parts. Visiting the other schools. Learning more about everyone, including the Speck professors and the Dozen. That’s a lot right there. Add in the Wyvern’s arc and the huge showdown at the end (I WILL give the reader the payoff on the Manipulator return…I won’t drag that into Part 3. I think it will nicely wrap up Part 2

Plus I need to devote time to the romance paths, and continue to introduce the rest of the student body. People always want more social scenes, and then there’s Crook’s little “getting reckless trying to track the Dozen” path. Plus the Origami project, visiting with Jacob again, and there there’s Mom. Plus, I haven’t even dove into more class scenes and grades (not sure if I’ll do that again or not, perhaps in a simpler way). Again, when I list it all out like that, I realize there’s just waaaaaaaaay too much in Part 2 to give the upgrade payoff. BUT, yes as you said, I will work in the automatic upgrade for Level 1 and Level 2 MCs somewhere in issue 6, meaning for the rest of Part 2, each MC will have all available equipment. That will make coding a bit easier. And yes I’d be willing to tweak the Wyvern fight a little more to reward Level 3 MCs with even less Ouch as their “reward.” That seems fair. As for any other upgrades in Part 2, I don’t see why a few more basic training upgrades can’t happen. I can work those into little training scenes, perhaps training with the Captain to increase Woosh, working on your case with McCormick, thus increasing your Hmmm, etc.

Sure hope to learn more about Professor McCormick! I really related MC to her, what’s with all the none of us being Zeniths…

Loved the scene where we get to protect her from Crook and the rest, by the way.

And she seems to be the most politically correct and sane from the docent body, much like my characters in all the savegames I have.

@Eric_Moser Can Hedonist feel physical pain? If he can’t feel physical pain, how could he physically feel anything? These are probably stupid questions but I don’t recall if they’ve been outright answered.

Pretty much what Nancie said. On the topic of powers however, I can see how letting someone choose a dream power and forcing them into a certain power could annoy a person. I think it would be better if you gave us all of the powers and let the strength of our powers rely on our stats. Super strength could rely on pow, invisibility on shhh, force field on thud, and so on since they easily fit with the stats. They could even rely on a combination of stats if it’s appropriate for the power.

Are you going to add a romance path for Hedonist?

This is actually making me slightly ill to think about, but to those of you who don’t have a problem with the Hedonist, ask yourself this: do you think he ever tried anything with Origami?

@ParrotWatcher You are now stepping in the No No Zone.

Please step back or there will be consequences.

Back to the question,I think the staff members might have known that she was 13 yet kept her for whatever reason. If that is the case,I don’t think the Hedonist tried to fuck her.Even someone like him has their limits.

Well, guess what,we have McCormick senpai. And I’m pretty sure she has some proof about the Hedonist and his actions (if you go to her office, you’ll see a file of hers on the topic of getting the Hedonist to potentially leave.)

I wanna hear the opinions from everyone else, how do you feel the Zenith route should be executed? ? ?

Position of power doesn’t exactly necessarily mean a physicall power  More like executive power (not sure how to explain this in english :stuck_out_tongue: )

Yeah. That’s why i hoped that the lack of options to react appropriately to his actions would be explained in second book. That it have some reason in some powers or something i havent thought of. Sadly, now we know that it’s not true.
Weither we like it or not we need his knowledge and protection
Bleh. Thinking i would need knowledge or protection from someone like that makes me disgusted. I would rather drop out of school than let a sexual abuser feel validated in any way :stuck_out_tongue: It would be nice if game atleast allow players in second part to openly show disgust and lack of respect to him anytime he is present.

Like I said,I honestly don’t know why they fired Downfall and kept the Hedonist. When you think about it,Downfall would do a much better job at protecting the school.

First off, she’s a Grade 9.The Hedonist is a Grade 8.So she is more powerful than him.

Second, her powers gave much more potential.Sure, durability and super jumps may come in handy, but enhanced speed, enhanced strength, and copying other Zeniths powers (to their full potential as well) is a much better combination,in my opinion.

Overall,Downfall is bae and The Hedonist is a piece of shit.

I still believe in giving us all 6 powers and basing the potential of the powers on your stats. To me,this is probably the only way to give the player 6 powers and balance it out.

I think someone talked about this before, but I’ll say it again just in case.

Maybe at the end of the book we could have a team meeting where we all reveal our secrets to each other?
