Damn @Gary, that is one VERY interesting theory. I can’t say whether or not you might be on to something, but I’ll ask I might end up incorporating this, as I really like it! Admittedly, I don’t have all the loose ends tied up in my head, and I know many questions will go unanswered, but I’ll definitely think more about Downfall’s motivations and background. I’m impressed you put that much thought into it!
@Attolia, thanks for providing the answer. I assume many people romance Tress if for no other reason than that she’s the first option available (and it’s a pretty obvious option too).
General Comment: I’m trying to engage the folks on Steam. Very positive comments thus far and lots of good questions on those forums.
Just started the game so I’m not really far into it but I don’t know if this just happens with me or if it’s a problem with the app. I have the game on iPhone and whenever I go to the stats screen, I get to scroll to the bottom where it shows Relationship, Academic and Resource but it stops there. I can see the little bit of the Next button peeking out but I can’t scroll down enough to actually press on it.
I also found the scene where Origami invites you to volunteer a little weird. It’s like a paragraph is missing from it or something. You bump into Origami and she grrs but suddenly she says she’s volunteering and tells you to meet her at 10 the next day. Seems kinda rushed especially since I don’t think I’ve interacted with her much before this part and it isn’t even a question of whether we want to volunteer or not. Just my opinion though.
The game is really great and varied. Can I ask two questions if you don’t mind answering? First I have no idea why Tress “hates” me (Zero points in relationships) and when I try to be friendly to her she brushes me off. The second one is if the achievements, that are listed on the first one, like kissing your partner in a church or telling your platonic feelings, can be completed in the second. or third one? Or did I miss something?
@orkwut, Hmm I’ll look into it. It was a last minute decision on my part to put the Origami/Jacob/MC storyline “on rails” because I wanted all readers to experience it, so I could carry it on in Part 2. That being said, perhaps I messed up on a transition when I made those changes. And my wife’s iPhone has the SAME problem with the “next” button being almost hidden at the bottom of the screen when checking stats. This appears to be a global problem with CoGs/HGs and some iPhones because my wife checked two other releases and they had the same issue as well. I reported it to Jason and will send them some screen shots.
@Nadin2011, Miss Tress doesn’t like people who hit on her first thing. So if you flirt with her during Capture the Flag and then you try to sit by her in HELL, I think that puts you in “perv” territory. Wombat should mention it, if I remember correctly. And regarding achievements, yes it’s impossible to earn them all in one playthrough. It would take several playthroughs, because some of them require certain romantic partners, “side adventures,” etc.
I hope to run a contest soon to see who can earn the most achievement points!
Really enjoyed the story! Origami dying was probably one of the more emotional moments in a CoG game I’ve experienced. Having gone through a couple of times, has anyone gotten the gift from Downfall? I had her with a fairly high disposition, but still didn’t end up with anything.
Yeah that part had me going from pretty mellow wondering if we’ll find a way to get a power, to wondering how precisely I can make myself a grade 10 z-person and go and turn the dozen into a blood stain on the floor
That would explain the thing with Tess hehe . Thank you for your reply but, regarding achievements, I meant if there are a few who can only be completed in the sequel to this?
Very well written game. I liked it a lot and the whole normal human becoming a hero was a nice touch , but with the Diabolical Dozen appearing and your confrontation with them. I can’t see the MC lasting too long without A. Powers of his own or B. Some super advanced tech and extreme training pushing him/her to his/her limits Overall really great game just been finding a few typos and weird transitions here and there. I’ll probably screen shot them and post later on when I get the chance.
Side Note:
Anyone ever win the vote at the end? If so how were your relationship stats? I’m assuming to win you’d need a good relationship stat with majority of the people who remain at Speck
Sure thing, go ahead. After all I do like the characters very much and am pleased to contribute in a small way to their development. I do find them a lot more human and relatable than most people who populate superhero yarns. Its not just a matter of having flaws but having concerns that tie them down to everyday life.
@Urban, ugh a typo in a freakin’ Achievement?!? I’m really disappointed that happened. Thanks for the catch, though.
@HiroVoid, I know in final beta testing, some people were able to get Downfall’s “award,” but it’s really hard. You have to take her side in pretty much every classroom scene and I think you have to be super aggressive in the Breaking Things final exam. And yes I was hoping people would be sad at Origami’s death. I wanted to take the nicest possible character…make her super optimistic and caring…and then kill her.
@LordOfLA, Without giving too much away, in Part 2 you’ll have several different paths you can take, all of which can result in you becoming a much more serious threat to the Dozen.
@Nadin2011, Yep all achievements can be accomplished by playing only Part 1. In theory, you could earn all 1,000 points if you played it enough times.
@EmperorHeartless, the vote is winnable but obviously having high relationships with Stunner and/or Uni won’t help at all. I suggest studying in the Defense study group because you get the chance to work with Wombat and Stoic, both of whom vote at the end. And see my comments to @LordofLA above. You’ll get the chance to become more of a threat, but that can happen in several different ways.
@Gary, Yes I think the key word is “relatable.” That’s why I wrote so much “down time” into the story. I wanted to pack in tons of normal little everyday scenes and conversations with all the characters to help people better identify with them.
@Snoe, I would love to see some fan art! Just because there are “official” versions of what the characters look like, that doesn’t mean people can’t dream up new versions or interpretations of them. You can definitely post it here, and I’d likely put it on the CCH FB page and also the web site. Actually I’d love to have a fan art section on the web page at some point but that’s getting ahead of myself.
Win the match against Mob (even if you need to kick him in the groins).
Rise your hand when she asks who is willingly to hurt a friend to win.
Win 3 matches in her class or shoot wombat in the second match.
In her second class, go with Tress and Stunner and let her break Tress’ arm.
Yeah haha I figured it was winnable. It’d be terrible if there was an unwinnable achievement after all… What’s the minimum # of relationship points for a vote? I’m probably terrible since I never get a vote (ha…)
Also Origamis death was immensely sad. I hope to see more of Jacob though. I also assume you’re going to have Origami dead forever, but maybe there’s a possibility of bringing her back to life. She’s paper and all which is already strange as a power. I’m not saying we duct tape her back together, but who knows. Althouh ressurection is is pushing it.
So are you going to make each situation “winnable” with each of the three Archetypes main focused abilities or are some situations going to always need a certain ability level even if that ability doesn’t fit in with your chosen Archetype?
I’m still waiting for it over on the Kindle store here, but I will say the ‘demo’ ends at kind of an awkward spot. It’s a cliffhanger, yeah, but in the grand scheme of things it’s a pretty minor one.
Grade-8 presumed capable of defeating 640 standard humans; rumored to be minimum Grade needed to apply for membership in the Diabolical Dozen.
Well… I’m in Grade 8… so I can apply! Boo-yeah!
I could go on forever about why this game was fantastic. It is very well written, it has lots of interesting characters and I cant wait to find out what is going on. My overall opinion of this game is positive, I would give this game 9/10
Well, as a beta tester of Part 2, I can definitely tell you that was a heavily discussed subject on the thread (With me as a supporter, obviously) and we even had a vote about it, but I can’t confirm on whether @HornHeadFan is making that possbible or not, as he never confirmed it to us,
