First of all I want to say that I love Community College Hero so much! It’s so well written, I love the story and I am REALLY looking forward to part 2
I have already explored most of the game and am especially proud over one playthrough where I managed to get all four ‘rewards’ from the teachers and become the leader over the group of friends
But I think I have stumbled upon a bug or something; every time I try to get Notebook violence I always get the same outcome where no matter what choices I do, Stunner still thinks we had a workout session.
And apart from Notebook violence I only have two other achievements left which are Back to the 90:s and Hey look over there. I don’t really know how to get the latter, but I feel like I should have Back to the 90:s already, I would really appreciate some help
So anyway; I love your game, and keep up the good work!
Hello, I’ve been lurking the forums for years now and finally made an account because I felt the need to say this. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. But I great enjoyed this game, I’ve played almost every Choice of and Hosted games but very few have moved me the way this story did. When that certain thing happened toward the end of the story I was in tears. I was so shocked that a game moved me that way and I greatly appreciate that. I am very excited to see what direction the story goes and am glad I bought this game. Thank you very much for this experience.
Back to the 90’:you need to choose pouch for your uniform
Hey Look Over There: your character need at least 4 Hmm.
You need to go with Crook to the honkytonk.
Dont drink anything.
Then choose to outsmart the locais.
@WaNeZot, I’m flattered you made an account to say hello! That makes me free really good. I’m really happy you liked the “Speckverse,” for lack of a better term. I am not creative enough to create a whole new world (and to be honest, I think it’s confusing for readers to drop them into a totally foreign environment), but I wanted to put a little spin on existing geography, so I just decided to make a little city in the middle of nowhere. And yeah I regret not inserting at least one extra combat choice in the Downfall fight. I learned my lesson there.
@7TreeSparrows, Yes Notebook violence is bugged! It will be fixed in January when I roll out a small update to fix a few typos/bugs. But all of the other Achievements are…ummm…achievable. It looks like someone else answered your question (it’s awesome how folks tend to do that around here). But I really appreciate your kind words and I will DEFINITELY get Part 2 published. Take it to the bank…unless I get hit by a bus or something.
@Erebus, this is exactly the right place to say it! And I was hoping the sad ending would be appreciated by readers. I needed an event to transition the story from Part 1’s mostly breezy approach to Part 2’s higher stakes.
@Urban, thanks for helping! Can I call you the “Achievement Master?”
Ok, thank you so much!
Ok good to hear
Yeah I feel like this is such an amazing community, I’m new here but I am pretty sure my opinion won’t falter
Yay, that makes me so happy
Except for the last part of course, haha
I like the sound of “Urban the Achievement Master!”
I played more of the game, reaching Hedonist’s personal “review”. I even replayed it to this point two times with slightly diferent choices.
I must say that i still don’t get it. This is the toned down version of Hedonist? I played my MC to treat his behaviour as just harmless flirting, only inapropriate him touching his students during class. But then there was personal evalutaion. Even if MC haven’t done themselves anything with him, and haven’t succumb to his advances, but also wasn’t angry at him too much, i later got scene when i heard Mob complaining that he was sexually harassed by Hedonist and that the professor offered giving better grade for having sex with him.
Wow. In my country those Hedonist’s actions would imidiately varrant a police investigation and criminal charges. Why in Speck universe those actions are treated only as inapropriate? Even if Mob (or other students who may experienced the same treatment) wouldn’t bring it to the police, even if the MC themselves actually liked Hedonist, doesn’t MC should feel some kind of civil duty to protect others and fight crimes? After all we train to be superheroes. Shouldn’t one of the first possible things for MC to do, is to have an option to go to police and dean to report a crime? After that exam nothing else imidiate happens that would take away MC’s attention from such important issue.
If person like him is in game, shouldn’t there be some possibilities for MC to take action? Up to this point Hedonist is the biggest villain that we actually could take actions against and it would be 100% in legal for us to do so. Yet the player do not have any option to respond to it in any appropriate way. Or when he tries to coerce you into having sex for getting better grade, your only options are to give in or to “graciously say no”. Your professor just sexually harassed you and commited crime and those are the only responses you can have?
Or maybe it’s just the justice system and morality in Speck universe, that treat sexual harassment lighter than we in real life?
So maybe it is justice system in my country, but for me Hedonist is still not only inapropriate, but actuall criminal and a sexual offender.
Am i really missinterpeting so much in the game?
Sorry that this is derailing me from main story of the game and i bother others with my rant, but i think this is rather important issue, that needs to be treated appopriately, giving possibility to treat sexual abuse with the severity it deserves, and the lack of giving any of that options is dissturbing in my opinion.
@Ponku If you think about it. Its basically Hedonist’s (who is a veteran hero, on the rank of a regional threat I believe, and from Savior school a much more established school than Speck) word vs your MC’s word who is a powerless, hero-in-training with little experience, influence and attends a brand new hero training program which is already under scrutiny by the populace. Even if you did report the Hedonist to the police I doubt they’d be able to do much especially with Savior Schools influence. You’d probably only succeed in making Hedonist an enemy or damaging the reputation of Speck (I can imagine the headline. New Hero School: Already in trouble with local police). Or possibly both. You do have the option to Report it to Dean Tolly, but she is interrupted no matter what and she does confront Hedonist after the final exams. Of course with Downfall being released and Nil gone as well which is 50% of the staff along with what is hinted at being Savior School putting pressure on Dean Tolly releasing Hedonist would be severely hard let alone reporting him.
Also through out the story it has been hinted of lots of back ground politics between the Zeniths and you. Well you’re a powerless hero that’s at best the equivilant of a Rank 2 or Rank 3 (depending on upgrades) and again Dean Tolly is the Dean of a brand new training school that everyone is trying to manipulate. Suddenly campaigning against people that are your veteran, teacher, and overall superior is highly unlikely to succeed. I am not in any way trying to condoe the Hedonit’s actions, but trying to give more perspective in the way I’ve seen it of the MC’s situation.
Also remember this is a work of fiction. Just because something is dipicted or interpreted in one way doesn’t mean that’s how it was meant, but everyone interprets one thing as one or another. Your MC’s decisions were more of a flavor choice than anything showing how your MC felt about certain decisions, but not necessarily acting upon them and at the same time a writer can’t put a decision for each and every kind of reaction people may have. The Hedonist was probably going to try to approach your MC no matter what. Ofc at the current moment all we have to go by on the Hedonist is his actions this far, but in the future there may be explanations or a better in depth of the Hedonist and his actions. Also the Hedonist does not force anyone, but he does harass, however I haven’t seen any indication of him forcing someone to doing something after they rejected him (after all you can reject and many others have as well)
That said I don’t believe @HornHeadFan is in any way trying to downplay how serious sexual harassment nor do I believe he in any way intentially tried to depict sexual harassment as “harmless”. As a reader I know I can interpret certain events and choices in stories and interactive novels one way, but someone else can interpret them in a completely different way.
Finally played this one myself and my first impression was quite good, even though I’m usually a bit apprehensive about superhero games, especially after feeling slightly let down by “Heroes Rise”. I’m glad to say I didn’t feel let down by this one at all, even though my MC is apparently “captain powerless” who apparently gets by on quick wits and smoldering hot looks.
I also liked that you made our chosen appearance (uniform) something to be noticed and commented upon, on occasion, within the game. That said I would have expected a few more comments about my chosen gimmick to complement that uniform, particularly in my case where I chose the boots for my guy (then again maybe your world has finally realized that men also pioneered the whole heels fashion first, quite a while before the women began to take part in it and eventually took it over completely).
I gotta say it seems like the Acrobat archetype is pretty much useless now, In the beta test it was a lot better, but now you can’t even beat Combat Wombat unless you train the Hmmm skill, but if you do that then you end up losing to Rain and Shine, despite having the riot shield, and other upgraded equipment.
If you use Stoic’s plan, you will win against them
@Urban I know but I feel Ike with the stats I had in Acrobat I should’ve been able to take them on myself, especially with my upgraded equipment, otherwise what’s the point of having upgraded equipment?
I wonder, is there another possible way to defeat CW in the sparring session? If there was more than one way to do that then I could focus on my Acrobat skills more.
I think that class is bugged, because I had a Sharpshooter with max Zap and Stoic would say I didnt have any ranged weapon.
The only other way is to shoot him in the face
But its quite easy to get 3.0 GPA with the Acrobat, even with a C in breaking, you just need an A in Secrets and HELL and a B in Defense (with the Thud of the Acrobat, you dont even need to the things he want you to do).
From what i understood from the story, he extends his harassment onto many other students, which potentially means multiple victims and multiple accusations if MC would manage to convince them to go to police about it. Then the court case would have more chance to win, and almost for sure he would be ordered to stop attending classes, for the time of trial atleast. Even with all his influence and power. Also because of his celebrity-like status, the scandal about him would be even more scrutinized. Even if “He is powerful and you are nobody” doesn’t mean he will always get away with crime.
But, as you said it is still high probability that with his influence he would escape his guilt and go back to his position and it will all end with making him more of MC’s enemy. I can understand that that would be the case in the game, but i think that it should be explained as that.
That after experiencing/hearing of the harassment you have an option to try to report him, but it would be a fake choice, that will lead to your character realising that it won’t work and he would win in court anyway (to avoid a scope creep of writing the whole plot of battling Hedonist’s sexual harassment) and not pursuing the lawful course of action.
But it’s not the case in the game. The option to try to report him comes around week later, feeling almost like an afterthought. Whole week after learning your teacher is a criminal and harassing students. As it is in the game right now it feels like MC just brush it off and go to “more important things”, without any default or option of commentary atleast. Right now the only course of MC reaction is like they treat it as not that big of a deal to concern themselves with too much. A flavor option to show how your MC feel about certain thing would be fitting addition, especially that we got options like that to many other, often much less important, events in the story.
As to Hedonist not “forcing anyone”, i don’t think i need to remind that physical force is not by far a requirement for serious sexual harassment and abuse.
What he does, his exact actions and words he use, and batantly telling many of his students that they will get better grade for pleasing him sexually, is a very serious sexual harassment.
Even with the possibility of completely refusing his advances, what he does is still serious sexual harassment, and “Hedonist does not force anyone” doesn’t lessen his guilt in any way. It’s still a crime exactly like it is what he is doing. At least to my understanding of my country’s law.
That’s what i’m trying to determine, what @HornHeadFan intentions here were. I believe he does not intend to downplay how serious sexual harasment is, but that is the feeling i’m getting from his game as it is now.
The main fact that your character, without any possible input from the player, is brushing of very serious sexual harrasment on many of your classmates by your professor, and not even thinking about till a week later, is upsetting and out of character. The fact that player got option to input how our MC feels about many other things, but for some reason not this one, or very limited possible imidiate responses to him to his harassment, could indicate that author haven’t thought that this event would require a stronger response. I hope that is not the case, but i would like to know what were the reasons that the event unfolds that way in the game.
Was my interpretation of it so bizzare? A teacher carresing you and telling you that he will raise your grade if you please him sexually, and learning he does it to many other students aswell, does not make you want to make him pay for his harassment and abuse? It would be the first thought to enter my character’s mind.
@HornHeadFan I know that i’m just one lowly reader and me not liking your game wont made any difference, but i really would like to clarify my confussion and maybe still enjoy the game if it’s still possible.
Stoic stole my cold, dead heart and origami’s death set the rest ablaze so 50/10 from me well done
You mentioned a scene where Mob tells you he was sexually harassed by Hedonist. Where did you get it (I haven’t seen that scene o_o)?
Also yeah I agree. The first times (and countless restarts) I played the game I kind of played as characters who was interested in Hedonist. Which might have been a mistake and colored my view of him
. Now I’ve replayed the game (yet again) and all-over what he does is abuse of his authority and the sexual harrasment it very clear, when you don’t initiate the flirting bit in the personal review. I will still say he’s been toned down from the very old beta but it was really bad in that version iirc.
Wow, the further i try to go, the more things to hate him Hedonist provides. His “explanation” he thought about as an “excuse” to his sexual harassment is sooo messed up an doesn’t make any sense at all with his actuall actions… He clearly have something not right with his head. Are you sure he can’t mind control others, because i find it really hard to believe that anyone in the class would get that crap
@Ventura I think it was when during the close quarters test in his office i stepped out of his attack (as acrobat i thought that what’s i supposed to do to use his momentum to throw him to ground) and he crashed into the wall and angrily grade me a D. Then next page was learning about Mob’s experience and that Dirty Girl did slept with Hedonist for better grade but isn’t admiting it (noticing she dont have her bra on after her evaluation).
Hmm not sure if my question earlier in this post was address awhile back but I was wondering if the leadership role was going to make a considerable impact on part 2 of the game? Is it worth trying again for the millionth time?
i don’t know about straight-up mind control, but it did seem like he had a kind of glamour effect going on to make people like him. it would explain why the only people who don’t like him are people he’s humiliated and the protag, who can be played as resistant to mind-altering effects, like with the wrestling dude.
