Community College Hero 3: All Things End (Poll on Post #1248 re: romantic short stories)

When you have stoic as your chosen RO and you see the poll results so far. pumps fist in air

Answer D: reveal all the shit Savior/Prestige has been pulling off and watch the ensuing chaos while eating popcorn.

More seriously: I’d like to see what happens during Stoic’s romance path and help her regain her powers, and see if I can save Origami.

However, I think making the ā€œfind who killed your fatherā€ exclusive to the Stench option is a waste. Perhaps it could make it easier to find out, but shouldn’t a detective MC also have this option?

Your first paragraph is probably more of an ā€œend stateā€ goal. Those will be numerous (and hopefully nuanced).

And yeah I’m not married to making the Stoic, Dad, and Manipulator goals exclusive to those paths. They definitely make more sense on those paths, but like you said, maybe I can give players on those paths a ā€œdiscountā€ to achieve those goals, meaning they wouldn’t have to pour as much into those secondary variables as would other players, but they could still choose to totally disregard those potential goals.

As an addendum to the discount part: perhaps make it easier to reach the ā€œgoodā€ ending of the subplots? Like:

-Dr.Stench: you not only discover that your father’s killer is Crook, but also the identity of those who pushed them to do it.
-Tactician: you manage to set up the manipulator without the dozen seeing you as an immediate threat.
-Zenith: you bring back Stoic’s powers, but also make it possible for her to disable it (which would be neat for a MC romancing her).

Those are just suggestion though since with the number of subplots there are, writing a ā€œbittersweetā€ ending alongside a good/bad ending might make things harder for you (just like the ā€œmultiple powersā€ idea that you had to drop).

Oh tough call with only three but I guess I should give the reasons behind my choices

  1. Rescue Origami from the zone- I’ve been roleplaying my MC as someone who values family of both blood and choice above all else and that extends to the idea of never leaving anyone behind and in his mind if there was a chance to save Ori than he’s got to take it.
  2. Find your Dad’s killer- I’ve been looking forward to the Stench path coming to its conclusion and this feels like a great chance the return of Dr. Stench to enable a sense of closure for the MC in more than one way as well as a chance to stick to your fathers values or embrace your own.
  3. Train your favorite two Afterthoughts and have them join the Specktacular Seven- I’ve mentioned before than I wish that more of the afterthoughts could join the group and in my own headcannon I have the idea of the Specktacular Seven becoming a sort of street level Justice league or a non profit Hero’s for Hire so I would love to give Quickie and the rest of the Afterthoughts a shot at the big time.

Alternate options:
End up with or marry your RO- As @Rinnegato stated if there’s a chance for a happy ending I’m going to take it
Help Hedonist recover- I started to see The Hedonist as the hero he really is in the last book and believe that he would be a better mentor than most of the faculty and maybe even steered away from the Smarts plan
Discover Mega Cats identity- Knowledge IS power and what better way to stave off a potential war than with the knowledge of the most powerful heroes identity to keep him in check

Honestly, I just want my gadgets back. Stupid fire chick. Maybe even improve them…? Seriously though, my MC put in some work to get those upgrades. I want them back.

Oh wow, these are really hard choices.

I went with save Origami, Dean Tolly, and Keep/Gain Leadership just because those seem like the most…important matters to me, generally speaking. Like, they’re really quite overarching, considering there’s the lingering mystery from CCH1 where Tolly was the main motivator for saving the program, Origami was the emotional core, and assuming a leadership role seems like the kind of satisfactory ending for the trajectory our MC has taken. Regardless of which route we decide to take, the initiative the MC shows (in my opinion) far outstrips what the others have shown, and thus becoming leader seems like a natural conclusion, especially for players who may have either lost or never were leaders until CCH3.

Now, that said, I would also like to throw my weight behind those Path-specific options. While the three that I voted for seem like fine answers for the overarching plot, the more personal path that players got to choose in CCH2 would feel well rounded if these endings were also available for us to pursue. It’s like the cherry on top of a Neapolitan sundae.

And yes, I say all this without pushing for more Hedonist content, RIP but he’s just not as important, thematically speaking, as everything else I’ve mentioned.

I would like to see what Nil’s long game is. He she they it, appear to know far more than they let on.

@Eric_Moser not sure if it’s been asked already but how were you thinking of giving the mc their Zenith ability like will it be latent and something traumatic happens and they use it or will they go to savior? You don’t have to answer just wondering also I think having forcefield abilities would be pretty cool especially if we can then help stoic

I always saw my character as a idealistic person despite what happened with the dad in the first book but after what happened with Origami, my character kind of ā€œsnappedā€ and turned brutal. For example, he allowed Crook to harm a thug with a knife when he originally wouldn’t had allowed this.

Put this together with the Dr. Stench route and we pretty much have a hero that wanted to help people but then turned vengeful with the full focus of taking out the Dozen by any force necessary. Even if they have to be killed. If this somehow brings the character to the father’s killer then so be it. So I picked the Stench and kill Manipulator options in the poll for this reason.

Origami, I would even throw all other choices away to bring back my sidekick.

I like that marrying the RO is thrown in the bucket with the other options, it’s standard procedure to have happy romantic ending as granted, but the dilemma of personal happiness X heroic act is very iconic of superhero stories.

The leadership seems lackluster compared to the others, it doesn’t really matter to me who is the leader as long as the team is standing united. Now if the opposite would be a break, things would go more interestingly.

A few other choices I don’t think are good for such a late exclusivity, I’m talking about the Zenith/Tactician/Stench paths, IMO it’s late now to tie in more content to them since it would mean replaying two games for the other ones.

Having taken a look at your code for CCH2, I feel that the path to taking/maintaining leadership in CCH3 should be similar. Rather than have an active subplot of the MC taking leadership, have it be more of a passive thing based on both your competence and how much of a team player you are.

I like the suggestion of making it easier for the Zenith/Tactician/Stench paths to achieve the goals you have attached to them in the poll while still allowing for the other paths to achieve the same goals with enough investment. My favorite playthrough is that of a ruthless tactician as team leader, and he sees the need to return stoic’s powers as a number one priority.

I like the idea of making the MC work for their romance, especially considering many of the RO’s are insecure (Tress, maybe DG if you count her drug problem), apathetic (Stoic), or potentially at odds with the MC in the future (Stunner if he ultimately sides with Prestige, Crook if the foreshadowing is not a red herring). As it is now, I think a big issue with romances in CCH2 was the separation of game mechanics and storytelling. Mob/Synergy is a pacifist, but is perfectly ok with maintaining a relationship with an MC that is completely ruthless. Tress is so focused on teamwork, but is perfectly fine with sticking it out with an MC who would never even consider taking one for the team.

You’re a great writer and you’re clearly mindful of the fact that you can always improve. I’m confident that however you decide to proceed will be the correct way to do so. Even if that fails to be true, you’ve proven that you try to be a good person and that whatever you choose to do will be done with the best of intentions.

Oh my gosh yes!!! The first ro i chose in this series

I feel like I’m one of the only ones who want to help the Hedonist. I mean… I KNOW he’s a bit shifty, but he really pulled through for the MC and the school in the end.

Oh man, I would pick helping the Hedonist recover in a heartbeat… if he wasn’t dead in my playthrough :sob: So I picked killing the Manipulator as a goal instead ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

So, in order of excitement and pure interest (you truly, truly, made it difficult to choose three, here are my canon secondary targets:

  • Befriend the Manipulator: I’m going to be very in the minority here, but I found her fascinating. Firstly in her insane psycho persona that caused the death(?) of Origami and threatened to destroy Speck, but in Book Two I found her even more so. To have gone from the underdog up-and-comer of the Dozen, to then have such a powerful being literally tear your arm off I think is a huge shock to her psyche, and that’ll change her. I want to know what she was like before the Dozen, and how her new vengeance fight with the Dozen will go.

Also, side note, I wonder what would happen if we befriended the Manipulator, but saved Origami from the Zone.

  • Saving Origami from the Zone. Not much to say about this, just want my little sister back :sob: But also, rescuing someone caught in an alternate dimension…also very cool. Might give us more insight into what exactly the Zone is, and how it resonates with powers like Crooks’?

  • Help Stoic regain her powers. I’m biased on this one, Stoic is my main RO choice, so of course I’m gonna help  But it’s a similar (I use the term loosely) situation to Manipulator’s, she’s gone from having a literal forcefield around her to being able to experience the world outside of her little bubble. Experiencing that after so many years seemingly trapped is gonna change her, and when she gets her powers back and maybe becomes a little less apathetic she’ll be an absolute force to be reckoned with. Mixing that power with enthusiasm and some empathy and there we have it.

So I have a question, do you think that the dozen should be taken alive or should you seek vengeance? Just wondering
