I don’t know if anyone else asked this or lol if even this is a normal one but is it possible to complete more than one from both type of Goals at single playthrough?!?
I mean there are Mid-Game and End-Game goals…
@Bugreporter, one of these days I’ll post an update with zero errors!
@Empress_Nightmare, no, I’m incorporating a lot of CoG’s house style, meaning that the protagonist is presented with competing goals, so they’ll have to decide which one(s) to pursue. You can probably tell that keeping the Afterthoughts from getting pummeled all fall will be the next Mid-Game goal revealed.
I wonder will any MCs feel bad for essentially sending the message in the very first scene that it’s okay to bully the Afterthoughts?
And I wonder if any MCs will feel that the Speck 7 are being dickish by not intervening on their former classmates’ behalf?
General comment: Someone gave me some private feedback that I really needed a funeral scene for the three Prestige students killed on the mission, and I realize I absolutely do need that, mostly to set the tone for the setting. A 500-word funeral scene could do a lot of heavy lifting in introducing the tone of the Prestige environment.
Okay, after using the search function, I feel reasonably confident that this hasn’t been suggested yet. I don’t know if it just hasn’t occurred to people, or maybe I’m the only person in the world who wants this, but…
I desperately want vengeance on the Hedonist. Ideally, I’d like to take his Mentorship as a means to get close to him, learn his secrets/vulnerabilities/weaknesses, and then DESTROY him Count of Monte Cristo style.
Could that be a possibility?
I mean, I get that he’s charming and has certain heroic qualities and all that…but he’s also a sexual predator, and I for one am not willing to overlook that. As it currently stands, the game kind of forces the MC to treat it as a non-issue. At least, the option is never really given to make it an issue, beyond the token “you try to tattle on him and are promptly dismissed” part.
oh dang part 3 to CCH coming out? can’t wait! might go through the first two again to set up a good hero for the last part.
Didn’t you say we would be able to do 2 mid-game goals and one end-game goal?
It depends on how many Mid-Game goals I include, but yeah the plan is still to make it mathematically possible to successfully pursue 2 mid-game goals.
I second this. The Hedonist is actually like the heroes from The Boys, a predator who is protected from his punishment and exploitation of students by the system. I think we need this angle to be addressed even if it’s awkward. What he did to some Speck students, while questionable in regards to consent (sex for grades isn’t ok, that’s cocorcion), his scene with the MC might be seen as consensual. In fact, we should be able to really tell someone who can take action or maybe take action ourselves in a side scene. There were a few playthroughs where I basically had to give in to his advances for grades.
I’d imagine any loyal MCs would be pissed off to see the Afterthoughts treated badly at Prestige, regardless of altruism or ruthlessness. There’s like, what, six of them left? And they don’t really have too much of a teamwork dynamic (outside of Rain and Shine) so they can’t rely on one another.
In fact, I’d love if one aspect of the “Protecting the Afterthoughts” goal included merging them into the MC’s squad. With all that both the Speck 7 and the Afterthoughts have been through, I feel like they’d be more likely to come together in the face of new threats.
I realize I didn’t tag you in my last post, so this is me doing that. I asked a question in post #585 that I’d really like some sort of answer to. Not to sound overly pushy, but I think it’s important.
The topic of Hedonist has been discussed quite a bit in the book 2 thread – I seriously suggest you look for answers there.
If you really hate him so much, you can always send him to his death in book 2.
This thread has very specific feedback needs (which you can find listed in the first post.) and the author really doesn’t need to respond to things outside those parameters.
Please do not pursue Hedonist in this thread any further, unless and until he is seen in the new material and then only respond how the author is asking…
So I’m not even allowed to ask if something I want included in Game 3 could possibly be included in Game 3? I thought that was part of what this thread was for, but okay.
Also, I’m aware that he can die (without ever acknowledging that he did anything wrong, by the way - his last words are literally a defense of his actions). If I found that to be a satisfying resolution, I wouldn’t have asked this to begin with.
I won’t bring it up any further, but I’m definitely not happy about being shut down on this.
Eric has said in the past that he doesn’t want to spend too much time working CW and Hedonist into the story outside of perhaps cameos and such due to them being dead in some playthroughs. He put up a poll a little under a year ago asking what plot lines people most wanted to see, and Hedonist was pretty low on the list.
I’m not going to keep beating a dead horse on the Hedonist subject, but I do feel that I should point out that the Hedonist poll option was “Help Hedonist Recover.” There was no option for getting revenge on Hedonist or bringing his misdeeds to light or anything like that. That poll didn’t give the option that I was asking about.
@Eiwynn, thanks for the Hedonist reminder. I don’t think it’s a secret that I grew frustrated with some of the repetitive arguments back in 2018 and 2019. A few people just took it way too far, and yes I’m eager to nip that sort of thing in the bud still.
I added “continuity” to the top of my feedback desires on Post 1 just now, because I’m anxious about writing stuff that doesn’t jive, even in some small way, with previous material going back to stuff I wrote in 2014.
@FaustXIII, yeah as @Kamer said, I’m not putting a lot of sweat equity into CW and Hedonist, but they will appear at least a time or two, if alive. I’ll likely post a new poll soon to help me determine the last few Mid-Game goals, and you’re welcome to vote for Hedy if it’s a choice, which it might be!
We have two Mid-Game goals thus far; helping Stoic and protecting the Afterthoughts, and I keep going back on other possible ones that could help tie up loose ends, including maybe something with Jacob. These aren’t meant to be huge, probably three-act-mini plots, so it’s possible that Hedy could be included in one. That way people who want to ignore him entirely could do exactly that. We’ll see!
I hope nothing said here has soured you from popping in once in a while! Hedy is just such a sensitive topic of conversation, I prefer to really really really limit it.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that you took the time to address my concerns even though you weren’t obligated to.
My main thing is that the whole sending the Hedonist to his death thing just doesn’t sit well with me. What he did was wrong, yes, but I don’t think he deserves to die for it.
I was being kind of hyperbolic with my plots of Machiavellian revenge earlier, as one does on a forum. What I’d really love to see is something more like Jury’s character arc in the Heroes Rise series: he didn’t realize how bad he was, comes to grips with the wrongs he’s done, and tries to honestly live up to the ideal of being a True Hero (at all times, not just when the stakes are life-or-death).
That seems a lot more satisfying to me than the alternative, a death where he dies without ever even realizing that what he did was wrong.
I understand that adding any additional plotlines means more work, and ultimately you have to do what you have to do. But if you want to know what the fans want for a satisfying conclusion to this saga, this is one fan’s opinion.
Okay, so the four End-Game goals are set, and two of the Mid-Game goals are set, but I want to add between 2-4 more Mid-Game goals. So it’s new poll time!
If you could pick 2 more Mid-Game goals for me to add, which two would they be? Or, if you think this list looks solid, and I should just make this the list and call it a day, feel free to vote that way.

All of those options are more or less for those who are in the Loyal/Altruism spectrum, with the exception of bringing Hedonist to justice, which seems to be a Retribution choice.
And with the other 2 (helping Stoic and the Afterthoughts) being Loyal/Altruism spectrum too, the game seems to railroad you in that direction.
I would like an choice that concentrated on the MC and his personal improvement, something that can fall under the Self spectrum.
Not a bad idea, but does self-improvement really need a three-arc mini-plot? It seems like you could just have various short self-improvement opportunities in between the mini-plots. Unless you were thinking something grander in scale than what I assume you meant (training, going to the gym, dating, currying favor, etc.).

Were you planning on these being two specific characters? Because I’m pretty sure the only members of the 7 who’ve had any real chemistry with each other are DG and Crook. But the later is married and the former is already in a relationship with Captain Powerless. Which is definitely 100% canon across everyone’s playthroughs because Dirty Girl is the best romance option. /s
I’m pretty sure Stunner, Synergy, and Stoic haven’t expressed any romantic interest in their teammates, and personally the only two people who I really want to see together are Combat Wombat and Tress. Because Cwom was willing to get melted to defend Tress and I really like how he matured throughout the story. Plus I’m a sucker for the, naive nice guy grows into a badass and gets the girl, trope.
