It’s funny you commented because the tone of the comic strip is absolutely the tone I’d be trying to recreate.

So here’s my premise idea…
The Speck Seven for Part 2 (MC, Crook, Tress, Synergy, Stoic, DG, and Wombat) get distracted at their study group meeting when Wombat brings in an “old school” RPG superhero game (think classic Marvel/Champions pen and paper type of game).
The meeting transitions into an impromptu game session with one of the seven serving as the DM, and the other six creating their own characters with character sheets, etc., and the game quickly gets heated/weird/sexual(?). The MC guides the action through their choices.
So it would be a game within a game, and would pay homage to the superb Advanced D&D episode of Community, and several different endings to the game would be possible, but in a “bottle episode” type of way where whatever arguments are had are forgotten by the time the “real story” picks back up.

YES! Extra points if you did some digging and really made each character’s chosen class fit with their personality. Crook as an edgy rogue sitting in a corner, Dirty Girl as a flirty bard, Synergy as a passive monk (he made his own character and the stats seem… off). Tress would totally be a paladin and super lawful good. Wombat would be a rules lawyer who brings up the Dungeon Master’s manuel and website way too much. I feel like Stoic would be surprisingly well versed in the game too.

I’m torn between them playing a Champions-type superhero game and a D&D-type high fantasy game.
The former is more meta, and creates some distance from the Community episode. Also, I was considering having the players pick between the MC’s 6 “dream powers” for their characters, which would be a nice little nod to that variable and story element.
But taking it in a D&D direction, while more “on the nose” with the Community episode, could still be a lot of fun, gives us a different “setting” from the main story, and I feel like the classic fantasy trope of “adventurers gather together to undertake a quest” would require a lot less world-building than the superhero game.
Hmmm…
And then there’s the question of, “Do I let the MC be the DM?”
Pro: It would allow the MC to be involved in pretty much every action.
Con: I don’t know D&D games well enough to know how to write DMing one from the MC’s perspective, with all the choices, etc.
I sorta figured Wombat would be the DM either way since it’s his game.

Wombat should DM! Treat it like an Elseworld’s story, with each character essentially playing themselves but in a high fantasy setting. Extra points if Wombat wrote up the sheets for each of them based off what he felt like they’d be. I’m a Dungeon Master, so I’d love to help out if I can, got nothing better to do during this lockdown.

I don’t think I can top Annie playing “Hector the Well-Endowed” but I think there is a ton of potential here. Wombat would probably have some hilarious sheets. Some of the group might end up with sheets that “match” them while others get sheets that are their total opposites. Crook could object to the whole idea like, “We don’t have time to…” and Wombat whips out the sheets and puts them in the middle of the table for people to grab and then it’s on.
And @Christopher_Wells I think I will take you up on that offer!! Let me sketch out enough of a outline in the next couple of days so I can make sure this is going to work, and then I’ll reach out to you.
*And one thought I have is to give the MC a choice to grab one of three sheets, to add replayability for the scene.

Froma gameplay stance, could this boost our relationship stats with everyone? Especially Wombat.
Nah, I don’t want it to affect any of the other stats. That could cause me to re-calculate my “end of Part 2” stats, which I’m relying on to write Part 3.
But this way will also give maximum flexibility for where the game goes, which I want. Like, maybe you really piss off DG during the game, but she gets over it over the weekend because it’s just not that big of a deal when you have the Wyvern flying around attacking people. (and I’d have to work in what exactly a wyvern is during the game too).

Can we have a romance path with stoic :<, I mean, stoic is by far the only character I fell for. I would really want her to be on a romance path.

Anw, I’m really planning on making a manga about this, about the path I took.
Every time I try the demo after about 2 minutes the screen freezes. It’s not my phone I’ve already checked, it only happens with CCH3. Just wanted to let you know.
@Charles_Sama, any “romance” path with Stoic will necessarily less muah muah muah than the others, because that’s just how she rolls, but my patrons voted that Stoic gets the first romance/social scene of the demo, so look for that in May.
@MzSnugglez_Fluffybun, Hmmm…thanks for reporting that, but honestly I have no idea what the problem is. I don’t think it has anything to do with my game files, but who knows? Maybe the issue will resolve itself when I upload updated game files (won’t be for a week or so though).

I think it’s an issue with dashingdon in general. I’ve seen it come up in a few different demos. For whatever reason, it’s more prevalent for me when I’m on mobile than with desktop

This is a relief, I would definitely support this

Really excited about the new book/game. Can’t wait to see it all come together. Really interested in the stoic relationship and see where that goes. Really looking forward to playing this, the demo is great, keep doing a good job

Staying busy this week…
- Working on next update
- Sketching out the “D&D” scene
- I may have a Zoom meeting with some patrons tonight (assuming anyone shows!)
- And I get to reveal the Issue 9 cover next week! Just got the final image from Karl Sia and I think people will really dig it.
I haven’t really felt “in the zone” creatively since Covid-19 hit but for some reason I feel more optimistic and creative this week. I’ll take what I can get.

New update is live. See Post #1 for link.
The update adds 5,000 words, bringing total to just under 30,000. My plan is to finish Issue 9 in May and jump into Issue 10 before Memorial Day.
The update is wide (it’s a forking choice with 3 short paths) so if you’ve read recently, you might want to wait until the next update for more content. I’ve started the process of coding in the pre-made character options, but as you’ll see, it’s not ready yet.

Interesting so the new end goal is to heal Booksmart and help her with the Utopia project. Not my cup of tea, but it is a interesting objective anyway.
