Civil War: Liberty or Union! (WIP)

@BraveMustang To find nobody it empty. Well, almost empty as you hear two voices arguing at a table in the back. Calling out, “Hello! Anybody here?”. I found it slightly weird the: “To find nobody it empty” shouldn’t it be, To find nobody in it, it’s empty!

Also @BraveMustang there’s this one: John Brown then spat into the ground and turned around to head back to his base saying, “Their will be no surrender on my part.”

Shouldn’t it be “There will be no surrender on my part”?

@kai229 Thanks, they will be fixed in the next update.

@Brave Mustang I think more diversity for character backgrounds would be good. Particulary, you could do more about these things:

A foreign spy sounds very interesting. However, I don’t think any foreign power would send a crossdresser to infiltrate the US Army, the risk of her gender being exposed would be too high.

Since you’ve replaced Maryland with Pennsylvania, there are no border states available for the MC to come from. I think it would be another differnt thing. Also, since WV was part of VA back then, it should matter which part of the state a Virginian MC is from.

The background for the Florida MC states that his/her ancestors came to Florida to assist the Spanish colonists, yet the proposed names are all english. Why can’t s/he be hispanic?

Speaking about names, you still haven’t added the fake male name for the female MC.

Also, I think you could add more major courses at West Point and mention Bleeding Kansas in the flashback.

So just played again after being away from CoG for a long time, and I’m really distracted right now so this feedback isn’t going to be very in-depth (I’m sorry :frowning: ).

Love the updates! I like how we’re already beginning to see ways we could possibly influence the outcome of the Civil War.

I noticed that during the question-and-answer sequence with either Grant or Lee, after you ask one question, it goes back to the beginning of the dialogue and restarts the entire scene. So instead of just saying “What’s your next question?” you walk in the door and introduce yourself to the person a second time. I’m sure there’s other stuff that needs to be fixed, but like I said, I’m distracted right now.

My life is way to busy right now for me to be a decent beta tester, but if you ever need the game proof-read, I will be happy to do so. I’m a bit of a grammar Nazi, and I even took a class on it (though it doesn’t reflect in this post since I’m distracted and in a hurry).

Anyways, I like where the game is going and can’t wait to see what comes next (hopefully I’ll be less busy then).

@WulfyK All true statements…

I don’t know…im going to allow some leeway and say they would. I don’t want the spy part to be specially a male.

I changed the names to reflect that.

The names the females select now is the “fake” name. I’ll better explain that, but later on you’ll have a chance to reveal your “real” name.

Yeah, i think 5 is fine for now. I’ve also thought about adding Bleeding Kanas in.

@Mirabella Grammer naxis are always needed!

The maybe the MC should be a traitor and not a spy? They could have the regular background and get a proposal form a foreign agent when the Civil War isjust beginning.

If the names are fake, then Harriet and Josephin don’t sound right. I guess they should be the same as the male names, just make a single combined list avilable for all and add a remark that the names are made up if the MC is female.

Hey @BraveMustang i found another typo: You find the quartermaster sitting on a stool facing the outside, the way you came from, and he glares at you, “Your late. Let’s get moving.” shouldn’t it be “You’re late” instead?

Also, when i clicked: “For the confederacy!” in the part where you choose if you’re gonna fight for the union or for the CSA, i got this error: 1850s line 259: bad label gray

Well, that was different. I like that you allow for us ladies to sneak into the army, although I’m not sure a moustache is the best, considering it can easily fall off (be it rain or other things!)

Enjoyed it, though, even if I am no expert on American history – but I might just learn something instead.

As for names, John Wayne was named Marion, so… Who knows? :stuck_out_tongue:

Why do I like it? Er… It’s well put together and has an interesting story (so far, thought I can’t help but suspect being a female in disguise may come into play at some point, and what about potential romances? Heh…). And it was fun to meet Mr. Grant.

Hey everyone! I’ve been making changes in the background as I’ve been too incredibly busy at school to due any mjaor updates. However you should be seeing something tomorrow. One of the big changes so far is that I’ve deleted the european starting “choice”. I’ve decided to go with @WulfyK’s idea of having the character be a traitor.

@WulfyK the names on the female list came from a specifically gender-neutral name website, but I’ve also added the note about the name being fake.

@kai229 The error was due to a change I was making earlier at the end of the story. I’ve fixed it so it should work now.

@JTAL Thanks for playing my game! Hmm, Marion could be a good female name. I’ll look into adding that.

Excellent, I’m waiting for the update!

@BraveMustang – thank you for making it. Hope you keep at it.

I got a bug when I picked “Long Live the Union.” 1850s line 251: It is illegal to fall in to an *else statement; you must *go to to *finish before the ideated block

For some reason I can’t get through that part either. I chose the exact same options up until the part where you choose your side of the conflict yet I can’t get through. Is it just not developed yet? By the way love the demo so far.

@BraveMustang is there going to be a chance to play a sport while you’re at West Point. I think that would give a good POV of the type of activities you like and who you are

Hi everyone!

I’m sorry for the lack of any real update lately, life has been incredibly busy. However I hopened to pound through the rest of the story (I’ve written more then what is on here) over Thanksgiving break.

@joejoe21 quite realistically I’ve been struggling to decide what to do with west point. While sports does sound nice football/basketball weren’t really around.

@everyone the choice between union/confederacy is where the demo currently ends, I apologize for the error.

Also, if anyone can help me with a code issue.

So I have a section that has you answer a riddle, and if you answer correctly you get a bonus. However, I’m not sure what the coding would look to have only one correct answer.

Is this game dead or are you still working on it?

link does not seem too work.

also like what i remember seeing of it.
