ChoiceScript Saving Plugin (Update: April 2023)

Well, this is frustrating. I’ve come so close to actually getting this save to work the way I want it to…but then I ran into a wall.

This is what my index.html looks like:

I’m not really sure what the two middle links are for. I might have tried to use the other save system(where it emails you a password and everything).

This is what my save.js looks like:

(for some reason that section just doesn’t format correctly…hm.)

Anyways, after I put all of that in, it works. There’s just one thing: they come up as actual choices, in game, instead of there being a little bar at the top(which would be next to the restart and stats button).

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong…help?

Oh? Ok, what happens when you remove the choices? Since you don’t need them there to have the top bar populate.

EDIT: Also, not to pry, but what’s ss.js? Something you put together?

If I remove the choices, well, everything disappears then. It doesn’t even give me an option to save anymore.

I mentioned before that I used the other method of saving, the one where the game emails a password to you. I honestly don’t remember if it’s a remnant of that or just a regular part of the code.

Since I don’t see jQuery putting up any issues, do you have a link to this (save-buggy) version of the game? I might be able to find something via Dev Console.

EDIT: if all else fails, why not try a clean re-install, without re-installing save.js as its depreciated and useless?

I’m actually having the same problem. I can’t get the save system to work at all off my computer (it gets the error I listed above). If I upload to dashingdons then the save page comes up without access to the story. If I move the startup text below all the achievments and add a #go to start of story option after the save options, then it will let you into the story via that link but there’s no option to save the story and there’s no save bar.

I thought it might be a problem since dashingdons will only allow txt files (so can’t upload the index or other save files) but other people seem to have it running on their games ok?

Tsk, nothing in console. Ok, let’s try a clean re-install:

go download a new CS folder, we’ll work in that.
go download smPlugin.js here (I’ve set the file to autodownload when you click the link by adding ?dl=1 to the link, so if it starts autodownloading don’t be suprised) and shove it into your web folder.
go download smPluginMenuAddon.js here (I’ve set the file to autodownload as well) and shove it into your web folder.
go to the index.html in the mygame folder and add these lines of code:

5. Now, try working with the save system (don’t copy over your scene files yet) on the new demo CS folder, it should work, and you should be able to copy over your scene files to the new folder now.

Ok, I seriously don’t know what I did now.

I tried putting in the smPluginMenuAddon.js in, and then when I loaded my game it just gave me a blank screen.

(hits head against a wall)

I tried taking it out, but it doesn’t fix it.

Ughhh…everything I touch gets messed up.

A new one, because I somehow ended up butchering up the previous one I did.

(Not lying, it was a mess. I wanted to bash my brains out. The compile thing wasn’t working, I couldn’t upload it onto Dropbox…)

I am making some progress, though. Now an error says that I don’t have a file that I obviously do have.

sigh

EDIT: Nevermind. It went back to being a blank screen.

Should I just start over?

Should you be able to run this on your computer via a compiled game? Thought I’d try that incase it was a hosting problem.

Just tried what you said @Malebranche but just get this error

startup line 200: Non-existent command ‘sm_init’

If I delete the save/load/delete txt out of the startup file I don’t seem to get any save systems at all.

(sorry, can’t seem to work out what it is I’m doing wrong).

Yes, you should be able to run it like that, as a compiled game.

Ok, one more thing before I go ahead and just hand you guys a blank preconfigured CS folder, @Jacic can you get me a link to that game? If it’s producing an error I should definitely be able to see something in console.

I just got a clean new folder, and everything seems to be running okay.

Now, if I can just get the index code to show up instead of just saying “Loading”, that’d be great…

Can I just copy and paste the code I need in there, cause it’s not showing up…?

I think you may be at the wrong index file.
Are you editing the one in the “mygame” folder?

I am such an idiot- that ended up fixing it.

EDIT: It’s giving me another error: that I don’t have the sm.Plugin.js, but I do.

Also, just figured out another thing, one of the reasons your game bugged out (and the reason why it’s doing so above ^^^) is because of the order you added the script tags in, you need to put smPlugin in first, and then smPluginMenuAddon in second (under) it, the reason being that scripts get executed in order and smPluginMenuAddon needs smPlugin to be already active before its script is executed. Just switch the order in index.html, you should be fine.

Nononononononononono, anything but that, lol!

You don’t need save.js at all anymore, it’s depreciated, don’t bother with it.
And yes, add in *sm_init.
