As many of you know, I’ve been associated with the IF zine _ChoiceBeat_ for over two years, as a reviewer (mostly of ChoiceScript games), interviewer (of ChoiceScript authors), and copyeditor. Recently, we were mentioned in the August 2024 issue of the French gaming magazine _Canard PC_. Here’s our creator and editor, Andi Hagen, talking about how he was inspired to create _ChoiceBeat_ when he observed that it was easy to find fansites dedicated to visual novels or text adventures, but nothing that focused on interactive fiction in _all_ its forms. ![IMG_20240916_171408](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/choiceofgames/original/3X/5/0/50be3aa4ae2d901dba46f5e24c01639091721636.jpeg) ![IMG_20240916_171349](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/choiceofgames/original/3X/0/4/042670a4a3dbaa01c9b086af6698c1650e1c1396.jpeg) It’s just a paragraph, plus a couple of pictures, but still pretty cool in my opinion! ---

**For those who may not be familiar with French:** I don’t have access to the magazine so I skipped a sentence. “Andi Hagen, had the idea after playing games like Suzerain (note: _I love that game!_), 80 Days, and Citizen Sleeper. ‘_No publication seemed dedicated to this category of games,_’ he told the magazine. ‘_The world of interactive fiction is very fragmented. I found websites dedicated to Japanese visual novels and text adventure games, but no one showed any interest in interactive fiction, visual novels and narrative games. I created ChoiceBeat to fill this gap._’ Inspired by the punk spirit and the chaotic humor of British magazines from the 1980s, the issues of ChoiceBeat align/span forty pages[…].” ---
