Yes. Really. You can choose a cat, a fish, a plant, or a rock. The fish and the rock are probably the most fun to read.
I know Aletheia’s already mentioned it, but Choice of the Cat really is an outstanding COG game. Funny, but also insightful and bleak depending on the paths you choose. And totally pet-centric.
I love them. I actually wrote some pet-ish centric ones to various degrees (some are more fun or less lethal depending on the concept) over on itch (you’ll find quite a few on there, definitely worth a browse). (That reminds me I really must to clean up the code on cage break.)
Couple I can think of off the top of my head Horse master (Probably not what you’re thinking of. Really dark.)
Please don’t climb on the dinosaurs (Not really pets, but it has dinos and is really fun)
(There’s more I’ll just have to think of them)
(My games below- Bit of a mixed bag in terms of what they are)
Each-uisge (Probably the closest to a pet game if you can call a kelpie a pet, choicescript)
Incuraptor (This one’s just a silly hatching game I made in bitsy)
Cage break (Play a parrot trying to free other captured birds. Warning does need a bit of a code clean up for QOL- forgot to do that, will try to fix it soon. Choicescript)
Can you tell me the names of them. And when you say “pet-centric” do you mean something similar to Lost Heir and Dinoknight where you have a choice of which pets you want and they can fight with you?
Added some to the above post. There’s more, I’ll see if I can remember. Pet centric I kind of mean they are animal focused but no necessarily a pet raising sim.
You have that one that’s a memorial to a dead pet that made me cry.
I was really sad when I wrote that, sorry for making you cry too
No, it felt good. Crying for him sometimes feels necessary.
The Midnight Saga, but in book 2 (The Hunters)
Bird in OFNA: Birds of a Feather can be considered a pet?
There are a few other WIPs on itch*io but they are either very short or dead, so not worth recommending.
The Parenting Simulator has an option to get one of several pets. As long as you don’t choose the fish, the others will also show up many times throughout the story, and be the focus of a couple other segments later.
I guess Talon City could also count, potentially?
The pets in question are also regular parts of the story, starting from their introduction. They aren’t just window dressing. They also add a lot to the story (as long as you don’t choose the fish).
If it hasn’t been mentioned yet, ZESH allows MC to start the game with a large dog (German Shepherd, Siberian Husky, Labrador Retriever, or Irish Wolfhound), a small dog (Chihuahua), or a cat (no breed given so I assume it’s a garden variety domestic shorthair cat). The pet can die, but it can also survive, depending on your choices.
Like the title says. Looking for more CoG/HG that allows you to choose your race. That includes WIPs and games outside of CoG/HG. Gonna list the WIPs and outside games that I played that has that and the games that I own with that option.
WIPs:
- The Wight King
- Shattered: Oblivion
- The Exile
- Ardenia Online
- Super System: Monster Evolution (though there’s only one starting race for now)
- The Truthkeeper
- Sheperds of Haven
- Disenchanted
Owned Games: - Vampire the Masquerade: Parliament of Knives and Night Road
- The Keeper Series
- Life of a Space Force Captain
- Grand Academy for Future Villains (since you can become a monster later)
- Welcome to Moreytown
Just to clarify, are you talking about fantasy or scifi “races” like elves/orcs/aliens, or human ethnicities (whether that’s fantasy or real-world)? It seems like it may be the former but I wanted to check.
Fantasy and Sci-Fi. Not human stuff like Black, White, Latino, etc.
Thanks! A Crown of Sorcery and Steel is great for this - there are varied “background” stories whether you play as human, elf, dwarf, and orc (I think that’s all of them?) and lots of flavour in the narrative, plus distinct dialogue and interaction options based on your origin.
A Crown of Sorcery and Steel
Dawnfall
The Evertree Saga
Imprisoned
Social Services of the Doomed
Can you provide me with a link to the one called Imprisoned? I’m not sure if the one on this forum is the same as the one you listed.
Is there a thread for talking about this or at least for looking at the info about it?
It’s been dead for about a decade, but it exists.
