Well I did say ‘most of the time’, not ‘all of the time’.
And again, I can’t really question your Bearers’ sense of self-preservation because what caught Evander’s curiosity toward Calypso was how she subdued the Seeker. Like just from one look at the way she handled the possess Seeker, he was able to tell she was not one of them; her movements and actions held a really unique ferocity that he has never really seen in those who cased after him.
I have to admit I was like ‘wait, what ’ when you originally put Calypso’s hobby to be ‘reading’ because i did remember her reaction to the library during the tour. Like I could picture the Bearer jokingly suggesting that she likes studying more than training, and her just giving them this deadpan look that tells them what she’s thinking about THAT statement.
I think she’d probably be more the type to enjoy reading if her partner was reading to her while they’re close together (like both of them relaxing in either one of their rooms on the bed, laying on their stomachs as they look at the book). Not so much because of the reading itself, but because she’s got a bit of excuse to be close to them and enjoy their presence.
As for simple hobbies I think the others could have:
Santiago: Puzzles of many kinds. The guy may have a ego, but he probably genuinely enjoys things that challenge him, especially mentally (including the Bearer). So he’d probably has a strong liking to solving puzzles others made and creating situations where one would have to think outside the box to solve. So the day he is dragging the Bearer off without warning to ‘help’ him solve puzzles and challenging them to try and solve puzzles of his own creation would be Santiago’s very roundabout way of saying ‘play with me because I like you’ to the Bearer.
Adonis: I think even in a simple hobby Adonis would probably still be into crafting with his hands in some way, so maybe he has a thing making creations using a mix of simple wood-crafting and engineering (well ‘simple’ for his standards). I could see him making small charms and statues on his spar time, but also adding some little things to the creations have a life of their own. And the day the Bearer gets to see some of creations are the day that Adonis is showing the Bearer another side of himself that he would only reserve (I doubt that any of his other conquests have seen much of his hobbies that he genuinely). Especially meaningful if he invites them to his room for the first time to give them a gift he made with his own hands and simply talk with them in the room about the things he’s made.
Aeson: I’d like to think he might be into gardening. It’s a hobby he can handle on his own for the most part, which is likely a big plus for him (I imagine that he gets particularly tired of putting up that Hero Act and having to interact with people for almost the whole day). Also, it let’s him be around living things that ask for nothing more than attention and to be cared for without some ulterior motive (another thing he might deal with on a daily basis). There would also be that tiny implication that he picked up the hobby from being around Persephone for a good number of years. So the fact Aeson would eventually invite the Bearer to his very private hobby speaks a lot of volumes of how close he wants to be with them.
Avery: I actually am partial to the idea of Avery having some interest in music myself. Music can be very cathartic for people (especially in a mental/emotional way), and I like to think that she took up studying music as an alternate means of helping those with wounds that run deeper than the skin and are more difficult to heal as well. Maybe she’ll even feel that music can sometimes help connect someone to others, which is would be one of the main motivations for when she first invites the Bearer to hear music she has been composing (because while she knows she may not ever fully understand what the Bearer has gone through, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to try).
Calypso: Yeah, it’s likely exploration; that girl doesn’t seem like the type who can sit still for even a moment on most days. So she’d probably drag a friend with her to explore somewhere new or try to find something new in a place they have been before. The indication that she is trying to deepen a bond with the Bearer would be the fact that she takes them to places that hold a particular importance to her or are peaceful enough that the two can relax.
