Children of the Gods (Important poll #12306)

Hades is the god of wealth. (Precious metals like gold and silver in the ground) So he’s also good for blacksmiths and you probably won’t get counterfeits. His Roman aspect was actually more focused on the wealth part which is why Pluto has a better reputation.
Plus powers are still rare among demigod I doubt there was someone to teach people how to handle them, especially since most gods don’t visit, I’d assume it comes naturally.

I know, but again if Aeson has got some powers related to that it wouldn’t necessarily be true that my mc has got them as well, since with Hades it seems a theme that Aeson gets the more useful, shiny glittering ones and my mc would be stuck with a bunch of creepy nonsense relating to death and the underworld that would be utterly and spectacularly useless in the real world.

My mc still wouldn’t want to accept anything from his “father” and given his abominable levels of skill and training it really would produce either pennies, funny (counterfeit) money or fool’s gold at this stage.

I feel like your mc’s just trying to be unskilled at this point :unamused: Besides he inherited the power from you, so you’re just using your own power.

Free labor? Funeral services? Halloween? Dead related holidays? Horror movie director? Even without Demigod jobs they’d seem useful and fun. Though I’d prefer dead powers instead.
Besides you’re the essence, you probably got both. We’re prodigies as far as demigods go.

I was re reading one of the books From disc world and I found a concept that would help understand @idonotlikeusernames character lack of power. in Discworld There is no really heaven or Hell. But the people go after Dead to a mystical plane where they receive all they imagined. A person obsessed with they will go to a hell they will go there. So maybe the essence powers depending on our emotional power is similar. Maybe @idonotlikeusernames pc is so lame because he perceived world that way and being the essence make this perception true.

A bunch of ghosts or zombies who cannot just be given instructions but have to be constantly supervised are next to useless as in effect we’d be doing the work ourselves.
That also assumes we can use it with any sort of skill and finesse and even if we can all of those require a shitload of work before we’d see any money come out of it. Even then the only parts that would “work” without arousing any real suspicion are funeral services and pretending to be a “psychic” and that last one goes so far against my mc’s scientific nature that he’d lose the last part of him that is keeping any sort of grip on his sanity.
Besides with my mc’s luck things like viewing the final minutes/seconds of a corpse’s life and communicating with the dead would be the full extent of them. :unamused:

In any case none of those are useful to enjoy a comfortable summer vacation for once without having to work some crappy job or worse.

Except we’re not, not for nearly a full year anyway and even then we must still ensure we live long enough to actually use it. For which those Gods must deign to actually give us immortality too, otherwise we’re 19 going on 90 very fast as our learning curve is probably not shallow enough to give ourselves effective immortality before the essence would consume us and burn us out otherwise.

You’re weird, if my mc hated his so-called “father” less he’d definitely prefer wealth creation powers as he’d be in no mood to do yet more shitty work during his “vacation”.
Unfortunatley as it is I guess he’d have to settle for working mcDonalds or some other shitty job in some nearby Greek town, provided they even let him off Olympus during the summer as he’d prefer just about anything to staying there and he doesn’t have a boyfriend or family he would even want to stay with.

Considering that before his abduction he had no idea about the essence at all and simply believed it to be “magic”, the brute force approach to it, the lack of finesse and general shortcomings in actually using it were all his own I’m afraid.
As for the future I don’t know, increasingly viewing the essence as a curse and, after that coma, utterly unreliable could have some effects I suppose as could trying to “fight” the stupid essence during the transfer.

So in the past we were simply a brute force “mage” without an ounce of finesse, right now we seem to be weaker from the effects of that coma and my mc is beginning to increasingly view the essence as a curse, particularly now that it has become even more unreliable, exactly when we need it most during those deathtrap “trials”.

It says the common power is necromancy, You probably could acutely control the dead and be lucky to have money powers. That and there’s also an artifact to help even more in case you’re horrible at it, with that and for once you could have a teacher, Nephilhim.

We’re the essence whether we unlock its power or not. And we are a prodigy.

My mc has plans for immortality, so he isn’t planning on jobs and even if he did get one, he’d be perfectly ok with a demigod job, he sees no reason to hate Hades. He’d have fun hanging with the dead, money doesn’t seem all that important to him right now.

On another note: why is Aeson perfect? He was a stereotypical child of Hades, a loner.

Well if there is going to be summer period we’re probably going to spend it as we are now, before receiving the full essence and likely before receiving that immortality as well and in his current form there isn’t really much my mc could do that would make enough money quickly enough to give him a really nice vacation for once.

So we keep being told, point is it is all talk right now, as compared to our fellow demigod competition the mage mc really does seem weak, which is in line with the author wanting us to be an underdog but it also doesn’t make me see my mc, or make my mc see himself as any sort of “prodigy”. We may have been a prodigy among ordinary humans in our old school and old life but that literally counts for nothing in the here and now on Olympus. For now we’ve got a bunch of utterly unreliable powers that don’t quite do what we want them to (anymore) and we must somehow survive those deathtrap “trials” with them and them alone because we sure as hell haven’t got any useful training against equally powerful (for now at least) demigod competitors who are actually trained for this shit.

My dad is Viagra dad. So what jobs he could get me into lol? I don’t want to know… Probably includes lencery and web cams or Vegas casinos…

Like I said my mc doesn’t want to do any demigod job at all, he’d rather work a shitty job in the mortal world than take any demigod job they’d offer him.
Besides the job “daddy” Hades would probably have for him is likely washing corpses or something, ugh.

Just throw yourself in the sea, you’ll wind up some place eventually, or try to teleport or fly.

The untrained mage mc took out a trained demigod warrior in combat with weapons seems pretty prodigal. Plus super intellect and in my case strength as well.

Plus Rohie outright said we’re a prodigy casually doing magic others, who train hope, to accomplish as adults. Even without the descriptions saying we’re radiating essence around us or or can conjure hurricanes… and on the warrior side, we can take on a group of seekers at mid tier, we seem great either way. And we’ll be great at both once the essence is unlocked.

Exactly the descriptions say we can, or should be able to do that. Except so far the one time we can try to use our powers during the actual trials, they don’t exactly work all that well or reliably anymore. :unamused:
Plus A hurricane would just be more “brute force” magic that is possibly as dangerous and detrimental to us as it is to our opponents. Unless the mc finally manages some finesse to ensure he isn’t a victim of his own hurricane it’s basically useless. Stupid, needlessly destructive and utterly useless.

You mean our corpse will, right?

I am not so enthusiastic about our powers but certainly I am noso grumpy as our grumpy friend. I really think knowledge about who we are would be a key to unlocking our potential. At least that’s what Emo Mara believes. I really think we are screwed not because we aren’t powerful. Because they will killing Aeson in the moment I end in Chronos side so we are done.

No, he’d have you do the cleanup after medical students finish their dissecting and exploratory courses at the local medical college. You know, wash down the blood, pick up the bits of body… that sort of thing. :grinning:

That actually seems disturbingly likely and that’s why my mc would rather sleep in the streets again and work at Greek mcDonals for the Greek minimum wage during that horrid summer. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Plus at least that way he’d be away from Hades and Aeson’s smug faces for a while at least, so that’s a plus.

It’s the last essence text, your bound to have control over it by then. Especially assuming it’s not just a result of your turning 18. You could easily call upon the most powerful of storms and the most violent earthquakes. Plus you’d need finesse to do either, your either easily maintaining a hurricane or moving tectonic plates.

Won’t be a corpse if you’re immortal :innocent:

It’s in the code. I’m not sure if you can view the code with your browser (I’ve had trouble viewing code lately through mine) but I got that when it still had a dropbox link and it. Or you can get 75 essence…

It’s immortality not invincibility, presumably.

In any case what the descriptions say we can do are for now very much at odds with what our mc’s can actually manage to do in the game, particularly where it concerns our supposed “powers”.

Here’s smth else from the prologue, though I don’t know if this has been mentioned previously :~)

She sees the silly god accept Cronus’s hand in glee, mistaking the titan’s offer for the power he has always so desperately wanted.

The traitorous god is male.

Yes. Delve a bit further by relating all his dialogue options as part of a whole and this god is known for his kindness and putting on a show. Then one could mull over who would be allowed as the go-between on Laveiby’s behalf. Someone neutral, not a potential daddy, and one who would be trusted with secrets…

A “Messenger”, shall we say?

Which can only mean one thing: Haris is Cronus!
