Children of the Gods (Important poll #12306)

Oh, I enjoyed it (despite my long lists of complaints). I did find that it was impossible to play as my old character (eternal optimist), though, and now he’s more depressed than anything else (although he still tries to act “good”; even after everything he still couldn’t kill Saxon). He would certainly still think about Sawyer a lot, though, especially since there doesn’t seem to have been any information on him after the apparent death, and there are so many people (Uncle Hades, for example) who he’d want to question on the matter.

He is your half-brother from your mortal parent.

@ParrotWatcher why isn’t it possible for you to be as optimistic as before?

Dead boyfriends generally end up depressing my MCs (and me, too :disappointed:).

I felt the same way, with girlfriend obviously…but then Avery appeared to fix my broken heart

Awww…poor @ParrotWatcher ,though I have to say Sawyer’s death does devastate my mc and it doesn’t make me as the player particularly happy (particularly with Saint and his lot) either.
On the other hand you having a more grounded mc is good for my blood-sugar levels. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Nah your not, sadly ive been stuck with him everytime i play. Curse you strength, i wanted hades Lol. I just cant give up strength for the life of me, it feels like a necessary thing to have to me.

I was going through again, and here’s something I skipped the first time. The word Between is used explicitly to refer to Hermes .

“Hermes is essentially an ambassador for the gods. They tell him all their dirty secrets and send him on errands, and whatever else his actual job is; he always stands between the Gods, ever the peacemaker…”

WYD, Hermes.
Also, here’s Saint talking abt Athena. “No. She’s also very protective of those she cares for,” Saint admits. “but that’s also her biggest weakness.”
‘And blame not only them for the death of the Dove
But the one who chooses, above all else, love.’ Perhaps this portion of the prophecy refers to Athena? It seems plausible!

Uhh… When I choose the male baby I end up having to select a female name, when I choose the female name it progresses as supposed to and when I choose neither it sends me through a gender neutral section then a male section and then still makes me end up choosing a female name…Wut?

Not really seeing the problem here.

@varroth, Rohie said she’ll try to as much as possible de-bug the current bugs by her next update so yes :>

@gia, and it’s established that whoever god is in the prologue also very much has a connection with Athena too O: my personal take (until yours, so gonna think about this more) is it’s Aphrodite. Since we’ve been warned numerous times not to cross her.

And blame not only them for the death of the Dove

So we know whoever the Dove is – some peeps be betting on Saint, but now I’m thinking it over again too – is going to die by the rogue seekers, traitor god, and Big Bad. I’m actually still fond of Saint so I’m praying that we can save him or something idk //prepares to defend Saint from the anti-Saint crowd

But the one who chooses, above all else, love.

Given new update, it could go so many ways. Priscilla might be implicated here somehow given how reluctant she was in giving you to traitor-god, but Athena is also a very good bet (especially in the rewrite) as you’ve pointed out.

That’s a bug that will be fixed soon. You won’t have that problem if you skip the prologue (it will start with the MC at 2 years old).

I see, thank you for the help mate.

Saint :weary:! I like him too, it’ll be interesting to see the way MC can choose to react when it’s revealed that he’s your brother. My MC will probably be protective to a degree, especially since we’ll have had more opportunities to build better relationships by that point. Ah, I started to wonder whether Saint would be a plot death early on in the game. He certainly seems like a fitting candidate. I’m going to be :~( if we can’t save him, though if his death is central to the plot, that won’t be possible.
‘Look to the Between, for they are the source of your grief.
And blame not only them for the death of the Dove.’ So the traitor is going to be responsible for Saint’s death, to some degree?
‘But the one who chooses, above all else, love.’
Because of the update, Athena’s started seeming like the likeliest candidate imo but it could be definitely be implicating Priscilla too, like you said. Especially since Rohie said we’d meet her @ some point, and that’ll give us better insight into her character. What interests me is @ one point in the prologue, she says smth along the lines of ‘It is no longer my responsibility, the prophet lies to herself’. The fact that she’s lying to herself, makes me think that she is going to have something to do with this, too. It seems strange to say smth like that in text, a little ominous imo.

I love the rewrite/update <3 The pacing was improved upon, our back story felt more fleshed out, and there’s more clarity to what’s happening ^.^ The extra interactions and such were nice too
However, and this might be more bias since my background is in psychology, the MC has been through a lot and I don’t feel like the rest of the story reflects this. We were only fourteen when we lost someone, someone we presumed to have been killed. Our aunt later disappears and we presume the hunters got to her too. We are literally being haunted down and forced to make a life for ourselves (we’re about what, sixteen? I can’t remember how later after the boy/girl/friend incident this all happens) while out on the run with no closer. Any semblance of a normal life is pretty nonexistent and we’re forced to live and learn under circumstances that are life threatening. We are even given the option to kill someone ourselves. Yet, this seems to be undermined by pretty much everyone we meet.

I second the suggestion of allowing us to mention the fact we’ve lost people too to Saint when he mentioned his MIA/dead friends and peers. Especially when he started rattling off names. I was just waiting for my MC to snap back, Sawyer, Aunt Alice; do those names ring a bell? Admittedly, I love how he appears so competent out on the field but displays another side of himself completely while not, and Calypso’s entrance was awesome <3 Love her appearance! Her introduction in the original felt a little abrupt, and I especially love how our MC steps up to plate when they’re surrounded. That’s exactly the kind of mindset I expect someone in his position to be in: the “this is my fight” kind of deal because he knows no other way.

Moving on to the Olympus bit, no one seems to be sympathetic to the fact he’s not only taken from high stress situations and thrown into more high stress situations, but he’s taken from a life spent looking over his shoulder and providing for himself, and put into the first stable environment he had since he was a kid. I mean, I haven’t looked over the fact he came to be in a place in his life where he actually allowed himself to grow complacent, but he adjusted way too well way too quickly to suddenly having structure - something up till then was left up to him to put in place for himself - in my personal opinion. As someone pointed out before, the little spar we’re partake in is the first fight we’ve been in in a long time that hasn’t been, essentially, to the death. It stands to reason our fight or flight instincts probably would have kicked in and be forced to act as if the other was trying to kill us even if that wasn’t the case.

Also, I don’t know about anyone else’s MC, but mine had hands that were constantly shaking. That isn’t a head cannon fact. It was mentioned in the narrative multiple times. This kind of bothers me in a personal way because I’m currently so stressed out I’m losing so much asleep half the time I don’t know what day it is. I’m surprised this had never been addressed by another character. Seriously, our character should pick up, or re-pick up since we were forced to pick to activities at our previous school, a hobby to relax. If that’s not bad enough, he’s competing in the trials like this. I’m just waiting for him to snap spectacularly and wipe out anyone and everyone because stress + all powerful being = ticking time bomb. Speaking of which, does our Stress stat effect anything?

Then you have the little hunter scene on Olympus grounds. This is one of my more favorite scenes though the exchange with the “scooby gang” was kind of off putting. Keep in mind, I chose to play a reserved character because a) the first mortal he (I’m playing a male named Pan) confines in, granted under pressure, is taken away from him and that’s going to leave him with survivor’s guilt or at least the fact he couldn’t save him is going to eat at him because that is not something easily forgotten, and b) not one but both parental figures in our lives have up and vanished on us, one of them even under severe pretenses (we at least knew Uncle Henry was leaving). This stands to reason my character is not going to take well to being forced to divulge information but have the other show reluctance in telling them what they know. But considering the MC is a stranger to them with a murderous reputation, guess you can’t really blame them ^.^; Still, outside of making an active effort of raising their relationship stats, it feels like we can’t really do much when they make such remarks.
But as mentioned before, that’s all more bias than anything and doesn’t change the fact I absolutely love this game and I sincerely hope you continue <3

Kinda a late response but…

I love me some it-makes-sense-but-is still-sort-of-ironic humor :joy:. In fact, that was what I was going for when I made guesses for each of the RO (except of Avery; didn’t know too much about her. Just felt she could be a Virgo).

Adonis: Pisces is a water sign (Guess where Aphrodite was born?) and is know for being loving, persuasive, and sentimental/intuitive, traits that Adonis himself seems to have. But at their worse, Cancers can be moody, insecure, and suspicious, which I get the feeling Adonis could get since he seems a lot more insecure in (serious) romance than he is with platonic bonds (and a Pisces’ strong connection to their emotions can be both a boon and a bane).

It is also a sign that has a really difficult time coexisting with Gemini in a romantic sense. As friends, it’s a lot more possible for them to bond. But a Cancer may need to work on giving their Gemini partner some space and a Gemini may need to put in a good deal of effort on listening to the emotional needs/worries of their Pisces partner. In other words, there often needs to be a great deal of communication between the two so that they’re both on the same page (which Adonis and the Bearer may need to do to make the relationship work).

Calypso: Aries, along with being a Fire sign (if Ares turns out to have a water source, I’ll be laughing my head off) it could reflect the strong connection that Calypso has toward her father. It is also a sign that often enjoys doing physical things and can be quite passionate and courageous, though they can also be impulsive and aggressive.

Aries is a sign that is very capable of getting along with Gemini; it can be challenging, chaotic, exciting, and trust could be a issue since Gemini needs some amount of freedom while Aries needs a certain amount of security in their attachment to the unpredictable Gemini. But despite Aries being very action-oriented and Gemini being described as intellectual-oriented, the two are able to get along really well and tend to enjoy each others different adventurous approaches to life.

Santiago: Again, Leo is another Fire Sign (Apollo. Sun. Sun is very hot). And some of their more is they can be arrogant, stubborn and self-centered. But they can also be creative, cheerful, and generous, which Santiago may be capable of under his Apollo Complex (Avery did say that most of Apollo’s children were actually pretty sweet).

Hilariously, It is another sign that that can get along well with Gemini, some even comparing the two zodiacs’ interactions as two children playing and exploring together. Both are adventurous by nature and Gemini’s openness to trying new things tends to compliment a Leo’s go-to attitude and desire to always be on the move to do something (and taking lead a good deal of the time, though they can be quite doting to their partners).

@Rohie

Honestly, I’ve been enjoying the rewrite so far . I understand that there is still some rough edges that are being worked out, so I’ll save my opinions of the Trial and so forth after I’ve gone through it a few more times (or until it is more polished) and stick with where the original demo ended.

First Meeting with Calypso: I seriously like her even more than before (and I already liked her a lot ). I love how she comes at the heat of the battle, that wicked smile of hers and ready to fight against. I just love that display of confidence, protectiveness, friendliness, readiness for battle, and small sense of pragmatism in handling situations being shown in her introduction. I honestly feel like she has gained a stronger introduction now.

First Meeting with Saint: I was surprised to see the more serious side of him in the opening, but it does reinforce the slow trust growth with him and how he seems really does put serious thought about how he protects his friends.

First Meeting with Sanitago: …:unamused:…Well, at least I know that it’s not anything personal and he’s just arrogant with everyone. But just to be clear, I like the fact that I’m annoyed by him since I’m not annoyed that poorly written. I annoyed with personality and way with words; he gets under my skin like I could see some actual people doing. But he does make some good points, so I’m more open to see what he’s like.

First Meeting with Avery: I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I had a funny feeling that there was going to be a RO who was attending that wasn’t a Demigod and that Avery was one of the likely candidates for that role :grinning:! Other than that, I’m glad to see that she is another character willing to give The Bearer the benefit of the doubt.

Early interactions with Athena/Hades: Glad to see that the Bearer can choose how close they want to be with Uncle Henry. And Athena definitely feels more like a helicopter mom than before; makes it easier for a player to possibly get frustrated with her actions (and better supports Saint’s words about her being overprotective toward the ones she loves).

Other than that…I can’t wait to see how Hera reacts when the Bearer calls her out on her threat :smiling_imp:. I hope they have a stare down with the Bearer refusing to back down and Hera getting aggravated at the show of defiance while some of the Gods just have this reaction like “did this kid just back-talk HERA?”.

Funny thing: when i got everyone’s attention and Calypso said “lead the way”, the first thought that came to my mind as Evander was “Well, we’re screwed :laughing:.

I agree with your points regarding the sychological impact of these past events on the MC. I’ve always wanted to place a specific focus on not only what the Essence does to the mind and body, but the fact that the MC does canonically have PTSD.

As of now it’s not represent even half as well as it clearly deserves to be. It’s a sensetive topic, but I believe I’m faniliar enough about the aspects of it to represent it clearly and elegantly in the rewrite. It began with simply with some flavor text, Santiago commenting on how you’re outwardly affected by intense duress, the stats screen keeping track of it as well. But I do want to go further with this.

It ties back into what my favorite evil MC of @poison_mara’s brings up; there has to be more to the MC than an adaptive kid that happily goes with everything that happens on Olympus. It certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility that a person who was under so much stress, went through that much trauma and loss would be quick tempered, distrustful, and in Mara’s case, completely sinister. Also, I do now see that you should at least be given the option to Fake It 'till You Make It; aka pretend to be complacent and friendly with the main cast, but basically hate everyone with a seething passion until an opportunity presents itself to stab them in the back.

The problem with this is that even given the illusion of choice to attempt to run away way from Olympus about 6 times a day, constantly telling the gods where they can shove it, and declining to partake in any interactions with the main cast…leads to no story. There has to be a healthy amount of compromises that enables players to be as pessimistic and stagnant as possible, but allow the plot to move forward without feeling too railroaded.

Which basically means a lot of coding and variables. But, since it adds actual choice (or, the illusion of choice) and freedom to the players, then it is without a doubt worth it. And that’s one of the major things I’ve been3 focusing on. I want the story to be as organic and as great as it can possibly be.

Finally had the time to go through the whole thing.

Other than the usual bugs already mentioned, loved the fact that interactions don’t feel too rushed anymore. Yay!

Wouldn’t it be fun if we could use Saxon’s dagger for the blood sacrifice? :joy::joy::laughing::joy::joy:
btw, there are some inconsistencies about his CoD, whenever they’re mentioned.

Everyone has secrets. Everyone. Dangerous or not… we’ll just have to see…

Edit: wow, I just realise how sadistic @Rohie is…
Previously, I had played Hades’ son, so dad-sharing with Aeson.
But because of the bug, Aeson is now the son of my MC’s beloved uncle.
Can’t run from this.

Yep, like I already said the biggest problem is that nobody on Olympus really seems to care about the mc as more than a potential weapon, or they at least expect us to be a normal, well-adjusted, trusting even, person for our age, when that is a practical impossibility considering the crap we went through. My mc is highly paranoid and survival focused and for good reasons, I dare say.

About relaxation, I’ve said this before already too, but the only way I can ever see my character relaxing is when he’s on his own, in private so it doesn’t help that we’ve got an annoying, spying roommate here and no “sanctuary” of our own or even downtime to spend as we please ever.

As for snapping entirely that is a distinct possibility at this juncture my mc isn’t actually that far removed from just snapping completely “howling mad Murdock” style and proclaiming himself Queen Theresa of Brexitland.

Yeah, my mc doesn’t like the Scooby gang very much at the moment, if they want his cooperation they will have to be the ones to treat him nicely and open up to him first, not the reverse, as they currently seem to be expecting.

So much this in my mc’s case, indeed it is possible that the mc has either already gone over the rails to the realm of questionable sanity or else may fake it as a tool to gauge people or get them to lower their guard, which is it, much like with the A-Team’s Murdock can be left up to the player’s headcanon.

True, but either not putting in any effort in our highschool classes that expect us to be well-adjusted and “normal” teenagers shouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility, nor should putting in the effort but actually deliberately letting our new classmates think we’re an idiot be (in Greek mythology for example).
In short I’d rather like my mc to be able to outwardly behave less sane (though his time on Olympus certainly isn’t doing any wonders for his sanity level right now anyway) then he really is and have some fun with it, like for example pretending to be unable to tell Artemis and Apollo apart and routinely misidentifying the other Gods (except for Ares) as well in addition to giving most of our classmates funny, made-up nicknames.

I know you can’t branch forever and made differently. Storylines… Story doesn’t need that. Just track deception and hatred vs forgiveness. And made flavour text according to it. For instance a simple example. Mara is sociopath I think so she doesn’t care his Bf who is lame and stupid really stupid and childish in my rp he is just the promise future star quarterback so Mara as future head cheerleader and prom queen has to deal with so lame material. If you repeated say how much i love lame guy you closed ways without need. You just have to ask hey What do you feel about x and change few lines. That few lines would add to replay experience more than some chapters.
I wanted get rid of him just saying Go have your mortal i don’t care about him at all. And you ask if i feel bad for him I SAY NO… SO PLEASE NO FOLLOWED THAT WITH a mourning paragraph of Mara about dying in a depression fora lost love  No way.

I still without read all text because to my feedback being accurate to a Mara experience I have to follow a serious role play that need no Fish daddy and text saying Mara is a saint. My feedback without my grumpy style is useless so i don’t continue …I WANNA READTHE RESTSO BADLY BUT I AM WAITING FOR GIVE YOU FEEDBACK POOR MARA

Ok, I’ll take your spot as the optimists.

I’ll practice.

Oh no Aelin! Don’t worry I’ll send you some friends in the underworld so you won’t be lonely  plus look on the bright side you won’t be hurt anymore!

I’m so excited to go into this competition, I get to legally hurt people with little consequence!

Don’t worry Avery if you help a lot of patients you’ll be seen in a better light right? I’ll help you with that :crossed_swords:.

Ares wants to kill me? Ok when I get my powers I’ll take away all his emotion, and no one will regret having him as family… he’ll never feel pain again :relieved: actually I should take away the other’s emotion too

Ha, Sage you miss your brother right, I’ll send you to meet him, you won’t be lonely anymore :urn:

How did I do?

@Noctis Santiago actually mentions the shaking hands. It’s one of the reasons why he seems nice to me.

I thought stress was our emotional stability stat?
