Children of the Gods (Important poll #12306)

Yeah, it seems being a badass warrior isn’t looking so bad now for you magicians, now is it? Such a shame.

Don’t worry, though. Thora will always help you in the asskicking department.

I doubt it, whenever I see immortality given to someone in Greek Myths it’s godhood basically. Their usually nice about rewarding people, though since you outwardly hate the gods… most of the gods, I could see you getting screwed over but in a not getting immortality at all kind of way like them unfairly helping the other contestants. And theirs been trials before there are probably a few who could vouch for the immortality. Plus the whole immortality schtick is for our essence, we’d probably could roam around as a decayed skeleton at that point or give us youth on the off chance that there was a loophole abuse. I mean all you need to be “human” is to be able to produce fertile offspring with humans.

I don’t get not waning to use a sword even as a backup in the first place.

I shall never surrender to the power of armed weapons!! :persevere: We will just have to work extra hard to avoid direct conflicts at all times.

Good luck, nerd. Because this is essentially high school, isn’t it?

Being unbeatable in a physical confrontation comes with a fair amount of confidence, though. It seems @idonotlikeusernames’s MC could do with a bit of that. Yours too maybe, but I don’t know your MC all that well. My MC is an affable joker who is also an absolute badass. She isn’t a bully, though.

She wouldn’t bully the nerds.

A shiv or a knife yes, but where would an average American kid have possibly learned sword-fighting to a level that is actually useful to compete against the other killers in those trials, particularly if he has never been interested in martial arts or sword-fighting before going on the run.
It is less a question of want and more a question of not really being able to cause I chose a different sort of childhood for my mc where he wasn’t a junior fencing or martial arts champ.

Well as it stands my mc has exactly the level of confidence his situation, abilities and training (or lack thereof compared to our competition) warrant.
Seeing as how the “mage” is currently almost totally reliant on magical items, which we do not have any longer, to do anything beyond the theoretical knowledge of “magic” and knows how to do exactly one magical trick, that warriors and seducers also learn, without them that level of confidence is understandably low, unless he happens to discover some loopholes and other ways to “cheat” of his own.
Though given our mc’s chronic and severe lack of even basic info and intel that doesn’t seem likely either.

Thora could not bully this nerd if she tried.

You can get he hag of it during the trials, just like you are with magic. I mean you’ll probably need it anyway and my mc’s in the same boat but he is still as good at combat as he is at magic.

Don’t worry, she despises bullies; people who step all over their supposed inferiors.

I’m intrigued to see how you would prevent such an action from taking place though, since you have little to no magic to begin with. Thora’s pretty badass. I’m talking Olympic athlete levels of badass.

Would you just make up a spell out of nowhere and hope it works?

Pretty much, yeah. :relieved:

My cheerleader is screwed there is no way to win now. My girl was raised with classic Greek education that includes the old greek fighting and some greek boxing but no with weapons. Nor armor nor shields. My girl couldn’t carry any heavy weight she is a damn cheerleader. With no strength whatsoever. So if she can’t use magic I am done. @Rohie fighters are already. OVERPOWERED you should include a stamina check if not the game will end like pick warrior to win. They have essence too so they have same powers than me AND FIGHTING POWERS… That’s not balanced.
So we are screwed you and me grumpy barefoot guy

I second everything Mara said. JUSTICE FOR CHEERLEADERS!!

Which isn’t exactly encouraging, all our previous manifestations of the essence that did anything significant at all were essentially completely unpredictable instances of “essence ex-machina”. Kind of hard to plan any sort of coherent strategy (and strategy is where the wit stat should shine) around completely random bouts of accidental “magic” especially not when going up against kids who have been training for almost a decade for this.

Well Mara might be able to at least manipulate the other contestants to her advantage, my mc likely not so much, since unlike Mara he doesn’t have a good poker face and openly loathes many of them already.

I am portraying Mara as Poison Ivy seducing a Conan the barbarian to fight for her. Go MeatShield protect me.!!!

I think cheerleaders get the most stat bonuses of the sports allure + strength. You not being strong enough is not cheerleading’s fault. And besides isn’t that a bit hypocritical given your hate of Santiago?

@idonotlikeusernames We are kind of naturally talented if you look at what we’ve done (Outrun trained hunters, beat a properly trained warrior in a sword fight, even if you aren’t a warrior). Plus we have friends even if you don’t quite get the grasp. And we do get controlled instances. It seems like that’ll be readily available soon anyway.

Friends? Talented? You are not playing same game as me lol. I have a 35 strength enough to do the cheerleader stuff and that not to manage a heavy armor and bear a bastard sword in a battlefields. We had charms and magic objects we don’t. Have them anymore. Not i don’t count Viagra as a magic item. And it is accessible to warriors too so don’t. Count

Charm is my dump stat. My strength is in the 50’s or 60’s and wit’s at 75 or 70. Besides I think even at that it says you’d be really strong, just not really good against demigods, so you’d need the weapon anyway.

But all the magical items introduced so far have been accessible to warriors.

Which is learn the theory of magic and acquire and use magical items while surviving on the run, impressive for a runaway kid, yes, but it’s nothing when competing against trained little killers in rigged contests.
So far all we seem naturally talented at is learning theoretical things quickly and easily, which isn’t going to be much help in those trails by combat if we don’t acquire some actual power(s) to back up our theoretical knowledge and understanding.

Barely beat a half-trained warrior you mean. That girl also isn’t one of our direct competitors and that “fight” was set in a highly controlled classroom and my mc manages to barely beat her there.

That’s news to me, we have the Scooby Gang who treat us alternately as a servant or the local charity case, “friends” is not a term I would use there.

Yep, in the current build they’re seemingly way overpowered compared to wit or allure focused mc’s who have strength as their dump stat. :unamused:

I like to multi class, I’d rather not be a wizard without something sharp and pointy or vice versa.

Plus we don’t know if the contest is rigged @idonotlikeusernames I mean the big three are mostly in support of you obviously if your cordial. Except for Poseidon who’s neutral unless your his kid. And about half of them in total do support plus there is a bunch of minor deities who could help. Still impressive none the less considering you haven’t had any plus the safety standards aren’t really that high with stabbing a sword into a neck to win.

Maybe you should be a little less “hade’s kid” and you’ll see them as friends? My character is loved.

Plus has their been real use for charm so far? I mean what part did you expect to use it? Besides allure can help with school and their the mix food, it doesn’t seem like you need to rely on wit much anyway. And beside you’ll get fat without proper exercise than your allure won’t be as universally effective.

And besides strength has had the least amount of chances to upgrade so it seems fair to me to be the most useful, plus in a combat setting I’d expect it too. Although I think wit has had the most use so far helping with school and combat.

Look at all the little wizards crying, how cute. sighs.
Jokes aside, it actually makes sense why warriors might seem “more powerful”. I mean, anyone can learn how to fight, specially more so if you are being fucking hunted. You kinda pick it up along the way, you have to if you wanna survive. But learning how to control magic? How the hell do you learn to do that? And it’s not like you have anyone to teach you how. So if you went for the Magic-wielder MC, I’m afraid that you’re gonna have to suck it up and accept the fact that you simply cannot learn how to control your powers in a trice…But, give it time and you might be good enough to level Olympus.

Also, @Sherlock221B, I think my MC and Thora should team up to train the mages. A bad cop-worse cop kinda thing.
