@matt_smith per the forum rules, we ask members not to ask when a game will be finished:

Don’t ask when a game will be updated or released. Usually the author doesn’t know.
This includes asking WIP authors when they’re going to push an update or release more content.
Haters gonna hate…
I wonder when/if someone will ask us about our life? Literally - as far as I remember - no one has asked “So what have you been up to before you came to Olympus? Where were you born? How was your childhood? etc.” I mean we were asking Aeson, Saint, Adonis, and Callie questions about their life, but they didn’t return the favor.
That’s not productive in trying to build a relationship with someone. It’s basically a one-sided conversation of which I hate having to partake in real life. Neither of them are shy when it comes to having a conversation so that doesn’t add up for me and they literally know nothing about us. I couldn’t have someone within my vicinity of whom I know nothing about because they might as well just get the fuck out of my space considering that fact. I’m not surprised that there’s been a little bit of “shit talk” from Saint and Santiago, although it’s very minor and it’s basically noise that i’m not listening to so I have no problem with them.
It’s sorta like a David vs Goliath situation when it comes to our MC’s and the others in the trials. The underdog coming out on top! BEAST MODE STYLE!
Still just on the strength that Hercules a.k.a Sage is just running up trying to end lives with her powerful choke hold. Hermes needs to get his daughter in check before he ends up seeing her corpse lying about on the ground somewhere sketchy. Haha!
I’ve already decided that Avery is going to be my little sister.
She just fits into that role really well in my opinion.
How did you take her down? You threw her to the ground or something? Punched her in the throat? I didn’t get that scene I got the one where my MC smoothly pulled his gun out ready to blow her fucking brains.
Well the likely causes are
a) They are not actually interested in us except as a tool and a superweapon, they are not actually interested in the Bearer as a person.
b)They have been fully briefed on the entirety of our lives, including every sordid detail of the last three years, so they already know everything there is to know about us.
Which makes me concerned, because that’s very much not a Greek myth.
Haha! At least we’ll end up whooping their asses though!
I sorta think they do hang with us to make sure were aren’t doing anything without them knowing. Also maybe to protect us? We die, Aeson dies and vice versa. So we’re like a packaged deal.
I do agree with point B though. It is possible that somehow they were able to learn that information somehow.
I’m wonder if there are going to be more of the previous lives, like Troy…I’d get a giggle if I could be Sappho in a previous life! Aside from that I actually thought it was an interesting part of the story, that helped to really show that Aeson and I are not like everyone else, that we are special, for good or for ill.
Personally I loved speaking to Aphrodite after the dance and finding Helen loved me back, made me feel sad that she mourned for me for a century, but it felt nice in that dialogue that Aphrodite felt the need to warn me not to get back with her
@idonotlikeusernames and myself are in the same idea and I think the reasons are well supported by game text. For spoiler reasons. Even with the current text that is going to change. It’s clear if you don’t try to see everyone in ponies and rainbows land. They had captured Athena that day in the morning Hermes a god that knows how to read. He knows perfectly in where school you were. They could captured you faking being any known person or just sending Henry. Or even easier if Hermes just wait his ass one or two hours they could have you when you enter home. Easy as hell.
But NOPE they let you time enough and ingredients enough to learn the shield spell and going away. DO YOU THINK PEOPLE THAT THE GODS DIDN’T INVESTIGATE ATHENA BELONGINGS? Of course they did they left the magic books ON PURPOSE. The 3 years is in my opinion a two reasons proof.
1- Showing gods you have what you takes to be a meat shield. You aren’t a person for them you are after all a meat shield nothing more.
2- They sinking you in a shit hole to break any mental resistance to depressing you . That would helping in the Olympus to brainwashing us to be a good puppet. That’s the strategy many groups use first put you in a mental hell and not knowing if you will survive or not and then little by little give you little stuff like food or a reassuring smile nd of course propaganda lectures. Humanity adapts to trying to survive changing your brain to allowing survive between your kidnappers.
Anyway you has to understand that WE WOULD END IN CHRONOS SIDE that’s what the prophecy says. So for them we are a tool not a person . A tool that will end in an enemy hands.
I feel like your biased towards cousin/sister Athena, why isn’t she suspicious? She seems to be the most likely one to be use us as a tool. Logical being that promised not to love, goddess of war taking care of a weapon…
Everyone knows when you fight prophecies it just turns out worse, it’s what the three fates are for. Even the gods don’t oppose them. Plus they’re usually not specific so you can fulfill it multiple ways.
Wonder if we’ll meet the gorgons,
I agree with you in that it’s likely they want to keep an eye on us because of Aeson, but also, it confuses me that no one seems to think they might like the bearer.
Especially since if you have a high enough relationship with any of the Scooby Gang, it reflects in your stats and shows that they consider you a friend. I think it’s plausible that they might have ulterior motives and might not really be interested in the Bearer as a person, but I wonder whether tht makes sense in the scope of the game considering the fact that Calypso + Adonis are romanceable and why might they enter into a relationship with or even kiss someone they weren’t really even interested in?
Right, I understand where you’re coming from. During my play through I wasn’t exactly thinking about anyone liking me, but I was trying to make all of my relationship percentages equal in regards to the Scooby Gang. Do I think they genuinely like me? I’m not sure, I don’t really have an opinion on that. Only because i’m playing my character as I am in rl and so from my perspective it’s like “You don’t know me sooo what are you actually going to like about me?” I definitely don’t think they hate us though, that’s out. I’m skeptical about Callie because I just get a vibe that doesn’t feel good to me about her. She seems too wishy-washy and I don’t have time for that. Adonis just seems to be there to me considering i’m not interested in him. Saint is my brother so he automatically has my protection unless he fucks me over. Aeson might be the one I end up with romantically and were tied together. I’m really only dealing with Aeson, Saint, Athena, Hades, Nephilim, Avery, and maybe Priscilla and most of that is because of family reasons.
I just wanted to comment on this even though I know you weren’t speaking to me haha!
The gods technically caused the prophecy to activate. They were aware of what might happen and they played into it by making us a demigod when if they had left it alone this probably wouldn’t have happened. I’m basically on my own side and the people I choose to deal with sides. Fuck Cronus and the Gods, nope.
This is like that Harry Potter shit, if Snape hadn’t told Voldemort, he wouldn’t have attempted to kill Harry thus the prophecy wouldn’t have happened.
As for Athena I do agree she is to be suspicious of as well because from that Hades/Athena talk she clearly has some agenda going on and we don’t have any knowledge if that is within our best interest nor if it’ll benefit us. I’m with Athena for now because she’s technically our mother and until she betrays/disrespects me i’m with her while being very watchful of her actions towards my MC as much as possible.
As a beta tester I could only say one thing. Wait until the update because many stuff in actual text are about of radical change . Like wow totally different. It’s not a Harry potter prophecy at all. In Greek culture FATE EXISTS AND IS ALL POWERFUL. fate is inescapable, so a prophecy is fate and inescapable. It doesn’t matter whatever you trying to do to escape. In Harry potter the prophecy could be avoided if Voldemort followers heard the damn entire prophecy and Voldemort were so damn stupid.
I guess I agree. It’s definitely weird tht we basically had the opportunity to be super nosey during the dance and they didn’t reciprocate @ all. It makes sense from a gameplay perspective, but when you consider tht some of the characters were said to want to know more about you (indirectly!) in the stats, it seems kind of strange. + It’d give you an opportunity to really vocalize how you feel abt your childhood (even though IG we’ve had the opportunity to make choices in that regard already). Even if you disregard the other stuff, it might make for better relationship building imo.
Ohh yeah! I didn’t even think of that. They knew Athena took us so we were clearly with her - unless they assumed she stashed us somewhere else or she lied to them - so they could’ve taken us when they took her as well. I don’t know what Hermes has to do with that though? Zeus is the one that calls the shots apparently with his wack ass. His way or you go the Tartarus’ way. I’m not gonna blame all the gods for this though. Just the bitches already on my hit list.
Oh, alright well that should be fun to see. I’m glad for the rewrite because we get to be surprised basically with a different story a bit. I don’t know anything about Greek culture to be honest. All I know is that when it comes to prophecies you have to be very careful on how you interpret them. I did try searching Greek prophecies and a story about Delphi and King Croesus came up. Also, Voldemort’s mind was so warped from making horcruxes he probably would’ve destroyed the whole world if a prophecy said a spider was going to bite him.
@gia I know right! Those one-sided conversations when you try to get to know someone and the other person is like
Yep, which is why Hermes is my mc’s second most hated God, only just behind “daddy”.
What has daddy ever done to you… Besides the obvious of course
I dodged her attacks a few times, then tripped her and sat on her back and pushed her into the ground until she surrendered
Lucky you, wish I had a gun. All I got offered was a pill, and my MC knows not to take strange pills that are offered to her, especially not when she’s feeling confused and woozy and find herself in a strange place with no memory of how she got there.
I don’t know how extensive their knowledge is, but I think most of Olympus knows our story in rough drafts, and it makes sense to give the seekers a thorough briefing about their target when they’re hunting someone as dangerous as the bearer. In particular, the stat screen mention that Saint “knows much about you” and that Adonis has “heard endlessly about you”.
To be fair, after what Athena did, I think the gods might be hesitant to send Hades. For all they know he could just run away with the bearer again like Athena did, so I think they’d do their best to keep him away from them.
This is certainly a good point that requires an explanation. While it might be you are right and it was all a big conspiracy, I think an alternative could also be that Athena put up a lot of resistance and did what she could to delay the gods to give us time to escape. I’m not suggesting she did that out of the kindness of her heart though, but that whatever plan she is cooking would benefit from keeping us out of the gods’ hands for as long as possible.
I also agree that those scenes feel a bit weird. I understand from a storytelling perspective why it’d be more interesting for the player to learn stuff about a character than repeating the backstory they have already played through, but it feels kinda awkward from a realism pov. I think having the characters ask the MC questions about themselves in those situations could be an opportunity to flesh out the MC a bit and add some flavor by making them put their experiences into their own words.
I think that assessment is wrong . The gods are fighting about what to do with the Essence. They can’t change that war is coming and they can’t change that the Essence will be reborn around that time, demigod or not (Maybe Cronus even could force the rebirth of the Essences or is able to use it even when the vessel of the Bearer has not yet full control over it. After all it all is his construction )
So the gods gamble to give the prophecy a spin in their own favor. The prophecy says that the Essence will be at Cronus side in the upcoming war anyway. It doesn’t specify in which way though - on his side in the sense of fighting for or against him - and that is what half the council sets their hope onto. The other half is against this. Because they fear that it will not help them when they further strengthen the Essence for Cronus use.
So the way to decide what should happen is the trials. If the Essence wins the Trials it’s like destiny deciding that they should be Olympus hero. And even the gods have to respect that.
I was going to say this myself. In this particular WIP we can (more or less) justify the “one-sideness” of the conversations because our MC is a pretty (in)famous person to begin with. Plus, in the case of Saint and Calypso they were “hunting” us, so it makes sense if they know some extra-details of our life without us telling them.
However this is a VERY common phenomenon in games. To the point I don’t even comment it anymore.
And yes, it does make sense to think that us, as The Player, don’t want to re-read our MC’s story and time is better used learning about the NPCs. Specially if we are given a pretty big cast of characters to interact with.
But IMO it still feels very unnatural when NPCs just sit there being interrogated. Not to mention in CoTG it’s explicitly said that some characters are trying to see what is true and what isn’t from all the stuff they heard about you. Therefore they should be more curious when you interact with them. How our MC reacts to that is another thing.
For example, in the dance it’s mentioned several times that Calypso once asked Aeson what’s more important, to win or how you win?. There I was 100% expecting that our MC will be asked about their opinion but it didn’t happen.
Related to the topic, in Guenevere there is a scene I freakin love. On your wedding night if you don’t want to do the this-and-that, you get the option to first sit in bed and just chat with Arthur where you ask him a question AND he asks you a question (plus reacts to the answer). Some things will be answered automatically based on your previous choices and for others you get to pick an answer there.
Man, I thought it was so well done. Sure your answers are shorter that his, but it’s still a very clearly active dialogue and not a monologue from his side. Besides giving you backstory info, it really felt as a genuine bonding moment happening.
