Children of the Gods (Important poll #12306)

But they and the people around them have been out to get us for who knows how many lifetimes/incarnations and their treatment of us up until now doesn’t really make me feel wanted as anything more than a toy or a tool, no one on Olympus even pretends to give a crap about the mc as an actual person.

Considering those trials are deathtraps in which we must compete against young, fit and far more trained and skilled killers than we could hope to be, to my mc it just seems like half of the Gods want to at least kill him quickly while tthe other half seem to prefer slow torture and a constant stream of humiliations. :unamused:

We do receive the Essence on our 18th birthday, but the point was that the raw power usually corrodes your body to the point that you die on or around your 19th birthday; it’s extremely rare that a Bearer survives a year after receiving the Essence, but it is possible.

Well, that’s completely wrong. The Scoobies, Athena, and even Hades all at least pretend to care. Now, whether they actually care or not is debatable, but they’re certainly pretending.

To my mc it seems only Athena pretends, the scoobies treat him like an underling.sidekick/servant at best and let’s not get me started on “daddy” Hades. :rage:

Well, it’s either you pretend to care, you actually care, or you don;t care at all. I don’t think you can pretend to, and actually care for someone at the same time?

Anyone else wonder what Athena is up to? Also, it kind of seems like Hades is a little reluctant to allow her to do so, but isn’t doing anything about it, either. Wonder what she wants from the MC, seems like she isn’t in on the big factions.[quote=“idonotlikeusernames, post:7594, topic:15482”]

How about you? What do you, as the player think? I’m kinda interested on the general opinion on Athena and [insert name here] daddy.

Sorry; yes, I should have said “give the appearance of caring”, which can then be broken down into either “actually care” or just “pretend to care”, but that seems to be somewhat semantic-y.

Even as the player with all my meta knowledge I’m not actually sure if Athena is really good at pretending or actually cares. My mc chooses to be friendly and talk to her, because otherwise he does really have nobody to talk to. Of course he does feel that “Auntie” doesn’t really understand him anymore, since he was a popular male cheerleader at his old highschool he doesn’t quite get where Auntie got the idea that he’d suddenly no longer care about appearances, particularly when confronted with all his supermodel “peers” on Olympus. So he’s happy to talk with her and be friendly with her but he no longer trusts “auntie” implicitly.

As the player I do think Hades cares a little for us, but clearly not as much as he does for Aeson as that boy is clearly his favourite. From a psychological standpoint this is perfectly logical, parental time (and often money, though that one isn’t likely to be an issue for “daddy” Hades) are limited quantities and parents do, even if it’s just subconsciously, want to invest it in the child with the best chances (or if the children are more or less equal in that department studies and statistics show first and last children are more likely to be the favourites and in some cultures of course boys are favoured). I think him having both far more access to Aeson and Aeson not having to live like a powerless “muggle” growing up de-facto means Aeson is the favoured first-born child and gets the first priority when it comes to Hades’ parental resources, with the mc being more of an afterthought.

Of course my mc, like some other “unfavourite” children, does mistake the “lesser affection” for “no affection” at all, a situation that is not helped by Hades/uncle Henry having a proven track record of lying to us time and time again, no matter his reasons for doing so.
So seeing, pretty perfect Aeson being the perfect hero, with his golden armour and fancy sword and clothes at that ceremony with Hades while we get the butter knife really does still hurt a lot and it is at that point that my mc usually decides he’s done with “daddy” Hades for good.
It isn’t helped that not even “daddy” Hades is seemingly willing to take the time to really talk to us in order to explain anything relevant at all after we get to Olympus. Whatever he may suddenly decide to do after that humiliating “ceremony” will really be too little too late and my mc really won’t be interested in it.

The only other dad I’ve ever gotten on non-canon playthroughs is Zeus and Zeus as a dad, like I’ve said many times before, is at least better in that he doesn’t have a sickeningly sweet relationship with our other half-brother, Saint either.
Though my mc still holds him not taking the time to explain anything relevant at all against him, but at least he doesn’t have the rotten track record “daddy” Hades has when it comes to our lives. While my mc with Zeus as a dad will also consider himself not to have a “father” he does take the “Viagra” as Mara calls it because we’re Zeus’ tools and it is all “strictly business”, while somehow a “strictly business” relationship with “daddy” Hades seems next to impossible, if only because Aeson.

Zeus’s pill thing was the only weapon thingy that confused me, what does it actually do?

Until we get the new version, nobody has any clue. I think it must enhance something somehow and let’s hope the thing it does enhance is not as literal as @poison_mara makes it out to be, or else we’re either still screwed or must screw for our survival somehow…literally. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well it does make some kind of reference to making you feel powerful, so maybe it’s like viagra for your magic or something?

Maybe it makes the user more beautiful. Cuz, ya know, Zeus and Allure.
Kidding.

I don’t know, you could be onto something, It might just boost all your stats.

You do realize that actual evidence of all, or at least most of his predecessors ending up looking like 19 going on 90 will do nothing to convince my mc that the essence isn’t a curse and can actually do anything positive for his appearance at all. :disappointed:

What your MC feels is up to you. I’m just telling you what happens.

I wonder if we can fight the transfer of the essence somehow on that 18th birthday, let Aeson keep it (and turn into a desiccated husk), he actually seems to like it my mc already loathes the essence for being a curse that has done nothing but ruin his life thus far.
I still think that due to both the “immortality” from the Gods (provided we receive it of course) and the rather restrictive “terms” of our existence actually changing, combined with the fact that the “full” essence is corrosive in the extreme on the human body, changing anything about our rotten demigod body for the better is going to be harder (and take more time) than you make it out to be, enough so that we likely won’t get to do anything about it in the game.

Of course I’ve first got to survive the God’s deathtraps with only the awesome “power” to blow up a lock. :unamused:

Well, I’m hoping there’ll be some way to separate it from the both of us; we can’t survive if he dies, and I don’t think that’s something even the Essence can change.

But not just any lock. An Olympus lock, forged in the fires of Mount Etna by Hephaestus himself out of meteorite iron; hammered into shape with the mighty Mjolnir (won from Thor in a drunken wager); painted delicate floral patterns by Xochipilli, who happened to be this side of the Atlantic at the time.

Sure, just rip out your soul and hope that life goes on…

Well, depending on how the story goes, I could see my MC doing it as some kind of sacrifice, especially if it could be tied to the survival of someone he cares for (if they haven’t all betrayed him by then ). Ideally, he’d be able to just give himself a new, real life (but what are the chances of that?).
