I’m honestly betting on titans promising immortality or some minor diety who is much more preemptive about the titan threat.
We can’t trust in them at all. They know we would end on Chronus side because of the prophecy. So sounds reasonable thinking1that they probably would give us false intel to muddle with Chronus .
But there is a stuff i don’t understand. The prophecy is about us being in Chronus side or WE AND AESON? Because if we are with Chronus and Aeson with Gods they just have to kill Mr glitter and we are done
I see, I also don’t think that the gods will mainly be overthrown because of MC becoming all-mighty and all, but that it will more likely be because of the subversions following the war. MC will influence their position in the ending through their position in the war. That also matchs:
Until MC’s 18th summer solstice (which should be June 21th 2016) from the beginning of the game which is July 20th it’s something like eleven months. I don’t think that the game will span the complete 11 months (not with the pacing we have right now), and I also don’t think that there will be enough time for a trial by every god of the twelve. Something will happen and I bet that something is Cronus.
I also don’t think that we can say that MC will be omnipotent. They will be strongest being in the universe, but their powers still could have limits, even if they don’t matter in comparison to others. We just don’t know.
When I have the Essence by my side
They will create a great divide
And when you see that there is no truth in your belief
Look to the Between, for they are the source of your grief.
Well it’s only about the Essence. So nothing specific. It could mean everything…typical prophecy talk…
And the only base the one half of the council that’s on MC’s side has to defend their intend.
I’ll bet you a $1 (yeah I’m super rich today) that at least one of those ways of avoiding death involves somehow separating from the Essence. If they are able I’m sure the gods or titans would be more than happy to make us a “real boy” (with a real soul) in exchange for that tasty essence. Hell if we’re really good the gods might even let us join them as gods and whatever the titan equivalent is if you join Kronos.
I actually felt that Aphrodite was hinting at this when she was threatening us. She could see ending our reincarnation cycle as merciful. Allowing us to live a regular mortal life.
But would MC in that case still be the same person? After all they would have a different soul. Wouldn’t that be more like having MC’s body be possessed by some other being?
Not saying I’d take it but it’s not like we have a normal soul anyway. I guess it would be like the Star Trek teleporter argument.
Aphrodite could consider merciful whatever.I don’t want to deal with the mess to ending being an old woman in a wheelchair. But I suppose some people wanna end like human. It could be a good type of ending. If I have to be human… I would make human all gods too Or I end immortal or everyone dies… Yeah, Shakespeare levels of Drama!!
I…don’t think so? Souls are a tangible thing in this setting. If you die your soul ends up in the underworld, not so the MC’s because it gets reborn. Souls also are seemingly energy sources on their own (reason why the history section partly uses soul and source equivalent).
If you don’t say that the gods create the MC’s soul by filtering it out of the huge enery ball that is the Essence your suggestion boilts down to them just creating/taking a new soul and putting it in MC’s body. They would be different people.
The other option is similar to just sealing off the biggest part of the Essence.
I also think that there are other ways to break the reincarnation circle as through immortality but by now I set my bets on this ominous place were the Essence goes in hibernation holding the answers.
Personally I’m hoping for a more self contained solution. After all my bearer is a mage and we mages have a history of cheating death. From Gandolf to Merlin to Elminster, all great mages have tried it. Not sure about magic in Greek mythology though. It tends to be a bit more tragic
Maybe our sorcerer friend might have some ideas?
All in Greek mythology is more sexual and more tragic. Normally sexual tragedy
None of them however apparently found out ways to toy with the laws of physics to the extent I would want to or to undo what Cronus did, so it seems likely that the human brain is a very big limitation on what the Bearer can do even if they live remarkably long.
Mostly to do stupidly useless combat things with it, or to use @KuraiHeka 's analogy we’ll likely only learn to use it to create a nuclear detonation, which isn’t going to be very useful in the long run, not nuclear power, maybe because our puny brains are simply unable to ever do the latter, or maybe because the Gods don’t want to teach us how to do that and figuring it out for ourselves will take millennia, provided our minds are even capable of it.
If they did something (and my guess would still be their puny human brains are the most likely culprit here) obviously held them back from undoing whatever damage Cronus did.
Immortality however we get it is likely to be of absolutely no use unless we also find a way to get around the limits of the human or demigod mind. Otherwise it’s either flipping burgers or living on Olympus for us for a loooong time and frankly that would be enough to drive anybody to suicide eventually.
Again I still think our demigod brains could turn out to be the our most severe limit and prohibit us from ever doing the really cool stuff or undoing what Cronus did.
Flipping burgers after all that shit they put us through, no way!
I’m all for ending the cycle even if that does kill us, what I’m not for is letting the Gods or the Titans get their grubby paws on the essence ever again.
It’s likely we cannot go there in our human or even demigod form and if we do so as essence we’ve apparently got zero agency, otherwise something would have been done from there a long time ago.
Well aren’t you a very cheery person? With so much trust in your MC’s capabilities.
Given that the mc has lived how many lives now? And they never managed to do anything really significant with their essence powers, not even in the few lifetimes where they lived beyond 18-19 and perhaps even for unnaturally long periods of time, it’s fair to say that I’ve got about as much faith in our mc’s awful awesome powers as they warrant, which is next to none.
@idonotlikeusernames and myself are the Pessimist clothing lovers team of the thread. Why being optimistic if We could be a fabulous dressed Drama divas … Careful boys we are ready to stealing your hearts
I’m pretty sure we’ve done a lot of significant things. We’ve just never beat death.
A master mistress of universe who can’t win the death Is the most lame ever God!
I kind of mean changing the laws of physics and exploring the universe significant, not maybe having been some petty tyrant or the queen of Atlantis or something once upon a time. The latter may indeed have happened a few times when the Bearer was lucky enough to live (well) past 18-19, the former I highly doubt it.
I don’t tell you to put every bit of faith for the MC in their powers, but mind that MC’s situation is different from other Bearer’s.
@poison_mara aw, I don’t say be optimistic, my own first impulse is to expect the worst case, but if I wouldn’t have trained to work against this I most likely wouldn’t even be able to ever leave my apartment. So let me try to find a middle ground.
How do you know? For all we know we may have been demigods (or demititans) before in previous lives and if we have been it apparently hasn’t helped us any.
We got told about it?
