And even if they would like to it would not be a viable solution on the long term.
Let’s say you make everyone immortal, what do you do when the earth is overrun, when there are no ressoucres left? Do you create a new earth? And what then? The cycle continue. At some point history would repeat itself.
Death serves a purpose, even if it’s a terrible one.
Like I said before, the MC is not omnipotent but they are/will be almighty. At that is much more mighty than the gods. They will have the power to stop the Earth from being destroyed or the power to fix whatever damage they desire. They could litterally renew the sun before it dies and explodes. Or cure all the human and the planet after a nuclear war or any sort of contamination.
As for the degeneration of the mind, I do believe that time and the hazards of life corrupts everything.
But depending on you moral fortitude you might last very long. Also, after some time, one might abandon part of their humanity to endure longer.
In addition, in this Universe, magic is an actual thing. If you fear memories might break your mind, you could just erase those every few centuries. Or Just keep the essential ones. There has to be a potion that can do that!
Exactly all the bad with nothing good. I just hope there is at least a way to become a real god. If not universe is doomed in my playthrought because I will take my revenge in humanity made them immortal in a eternal suffering tartarus torture chamber. If I am not happy nobody will
Mhm, everything you said is very truthful, because at that point there wouldn’t even be a meaning to the creation of life. The new policy would be, “Know that once you’re born you shall live forever.” I could actually see Zeus saying some shit like that .
Haha, aww, what does tartarus even do? I know it’s a dungeon and it torments people but is it a illusion of pain or does it play off of what you’re afraid of?
I don’t create universe for a crappy cycle of doom Who creates the damn cycle was Chronus. So I hope there is a way to abandoning my crappy body become god. Or I just suicide myself before causes pain enough in the damn universe of course.
How is it boring? Omnipotence is boring. Almighty-ness is fun.
Let’s go back to the Theory of God and the Rock.
The idea of omnipotence has two significations : it is linked to the idea of eternal, absolute and neverending power:
1 - omnipotence implies that the Bearer has real power unending, unchallenged = they can see everything, they can understand everything and they can freely decide everything.
2 - From there is born the logic possibility that they can loose, fall and die (by choice, of course). Otherwise, they would not be truly omnipotent.
In case of the Bearer, and considering the content of our current conversation : the bearer obviously cannot see everything. They cannot understand everything. And thus, lacking both knowlegde and understanding, they are not truly free to choose anything. We are not omnipotent because we are human. And it is beautiful thing.
If you were truly omnipotent and a god, do you think you would care so much about what you look like? Do you think you care about all of those trivial, petty things that encumbers the glorious mess the human psyche is? I am enclined to bet you wouldn’t.
We would see all thing, we would understand all things. We would be something that is so completely different that what we are now we could possibly fanthom it.
P.s : I don’t consider the Greek gods as omnipotent, merely extremely powerful beings.
Omnipotent is not Omniscience at least not in theory. I don’t want be omniscience. And If I am omniscience and omnipotence I could maintain my personality EXACTLY SAME AS IT IS.
Edit: As A cog could be fantastic see several grades of this!!! I am excited… I love thinking in this philosophical stuff
Omnipotence is maximal power. Maximal greatness (or perfection) includes omnipotence. Human can never be perfect. Your mind and personnality is human. Thus imperfect.
Could you? Could you truly remain exactly the same if you knew everything, if you saw everthing, and if you understood everything?
Not for Catholics Jesus was omnipotent and human. it is trinity mystery. Human god and Santo spirit. The three oil in a same liquid. Yoy can for Catholics philosophers
I’ve thaught about what you said, and I find myself agreeing.
You just said it yourself : Jesus is/was omnipotent and human, at least according to catholicism.
Then the Bearer can be too.
Oh wait, no. There is the little hurdle that is Aeson.
(Actually a small part of me still think it is almighty. After all we are not Jesus, and we are not the chosen one)
I think my character would want to be omniscient, even if not truly omnipotent precisely because it would render their human troubles irrelevant, it would be the cure for his “human condition” because it would make him stop caring about his crappy life. Sadly it seems that is not to be.
Also without greater knowledge, never mind omniscience, it is unlikely that we’ll be able to use the essence, even beyond that 18th birthday to do anything fun, except what the Gods train us to do with it, which will be combat, yay.
I get where you’re coming from, but I think my character would rather find a way to take his frustrations out on the essence, which is after all the thing that has ruined our lives. Find a way to make it worthless or inaccessible both to the Gods and future Bearers.
Tarterus is a primordial god/Titan that acts as a prison for gods/titans/really bad strong people. I think at least 2 generations off from chaos. I think maybe gaias kid but I’m not sure.
Yeah, what you said was accurate…I looked it up. I’m reading some Greek mythology and King Tantalus is craaaazy. I mean he was not playing any games with the gods. He reminds me of when Cartman from South Park set up his half-brother’s parent’s death and then made him eat them in chili.
I agree with Zeus on this (hell froze over) I would’ve killed him for that shit, after I whooped his ass with a belt saying "What’s wrong with you? (Whack) Huh? (Whack) Huh? (Whack) How dare you kill my grandson! (Whack, whack, whack)…so disrespectful.
I suppose he had a happy ending and then went crazy as well.
I have noticed two big assumptions that people seem to be making here. The first has already been addressed: The idea that the MC will become omnipotent. I’m not sure where this idea originated. We know that the essence has the power to create universes, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that the essence can freely create and destroy universes at much as they want. Creating a universe requires a tremendous amount of energy, and focusing and concentrating all that energy into a single point might be something that takes a large amount of time and effort for the essence to do.
Kinda related to this is the second assumption I’ve seen, that we’ill be able to use this power when we turn 18. I really don’t understand where people are getting this idea a from. We know that we will get access to the full powers of the essence when we turn 18, but that does not mean we’ll actually be able to use them. It might take years, decades, even millennia or longer for us to master the full extent of the power the essence provides. We know that (rarely) previous bearers have lived past 18 years of age, so the fact that they were not able to save themselves and left the world still in one piece suggests that they did not, upon reaching 18, have sufficient mastery over their powers to do whatever they the heck wanted.
My interpretation is that the gods are hoping that during the limited time from the bearer turns 18 until the war begins, they will learn to use the essence well enough to turn the tide in their favor, nothing more. I don’t think the pro-bearer camp’s main argument is that the bearer won’t be a threat that needs to be dealt with at some point, but rather that the bearer won’t be so much of a threat that dealing with it can’t wait until after the war.
Seems like the essence will be beyond useless to us then, or as Mara so succinctly put it, our poor Bearers get all the bad with none of the (little) good there is to having such powers.
It also seems increasingly like the essence itself is the thing we need to take our revenge against, find a way to break the cycle and the essence, or at least render it utterly useless to both the gods and future Bearers, even if it does kill the mc.
Maybe by dumping it all into a “white hole” perpetually at, or just beyond the ever expanding universe.
I wonder what happens if we try with every fibre of our being to reject the essence during the transfer?
Nothing try all hard you want stopping the cellular mitosis you can’t is part of you. Same with essence process . We are as screwed as Prometheus. But Mara would or suicide or making everyone suffering with her .
