I would talk in Emo Mara character to give you an idea about her mind…
“You Gods have destroyed all my life and family. And then what now Veiled menaces like a tantrum child?. You bring me to life, And You left hunters rampant trying to murdering me. And Now I have to participate In a trial i don’t care about and I was never trained. I am a mage not a damn bloody fighter. You have the other guy he could fight instead.”
She just wanted they give some love and that she could be the best and some diva vip treatment. She has dreamed about the fame and being loved if her father someday comes for her… But daddy never come. She felt like nobody wants her, that she is shit and that’s why daddy doesn’t love her . that she would be pretty and famous enough maybe he could come and give her a hug and say he would take care of her. She is scared and alone. With no family or friends always running. She just can’t sleep and suffers crying all the night… She was thinking about of suicide when Saint attacked. The anger is the fuel has keep her alive this years but she is near breakdown. She would do whatever to be loved and respected even if that means joining Cronus.
I think, for more sensitive mc’s, emotions like fear or even just shock would play out. Someone is inclined to be angry when a person is telling them, to their face, that maybe they should just be killed, but I think genuine hurt would be another probable emotion. Like, what did they do to deserve such a hostile outlook on their life from the gods? And also just confusion by itself; Why are they being threatened now, they haven’t done anything wrong! I picture my mc being more upset than purely angry; she’s more sensitive and inclined to give people chances, so being judged right away would be upsetting and confusing. She could also be defensive, though, so I don’t know. So many emotions to feel!
Ah, oh she means the first summons, shows you I’ve had one too many drinks tonight. Still I’ll leave my previous comment up in case it comes in handy for her rewrite of the ceremony.
At the point of the first summons curiosity would still be a powerful drive though I think my mc would also like to say something to them along the lines of “If you wanted me dead why didn’t you let your packs of little psychotic killers, as in Saint and Calypso, finish the job back in New York. Why bother with this whole charade then?”
The rest would at that point just be the basic questions:
“Why did you feel the need to change my body ?” Come to think of it that would probably be the first one.
“Who put that blocker one me?”
“Why did you kidnap me?”
“What is the purpose of this charade ?” and
“Why is “uncle” here?” would probably be the most pressing and important ones.
Incidentally @Sammysam that Saint was able to outfox our smart, magic using mc like he did in New York really doesn’t bode well for our chances in those trials. Plain and simple his superior tactics and training won out over our mc’s survival instinct and scraps of raw power. Those are facts that hold true no matter how you tend to look at it and my mc would certainly realise that and know that he is greatly inferior in both training and intel compared to just about every other competitor.
While raw power is nice, it’s absolutely worthless and certainly a great strategic disadvantage when you don’t know how to reliably make use of it.
They have at least a few days to waste with letting him re-take highschool.
As for enjoying learning, agreed and while my mc did enjoy highschool back when he wasn’t running for his life and still had friends, he would now look forward to what should be the next phase in life which would be college/university or some form of professional training, not redoing highschool. He’s proud of having completed it while on the run and he doesn’t like to see it get invalidated because he didn’t attend an elite , private school.
Like I said, his reaction would be vastly different had they offered him a scholarship at Olympus U, even if they did stipulate that Greek Mythology would be mandatory. Retaking highschool on the other hand, would be hard to be particularly enthusiastic about. As a result he’ll either try to skip out on most of his classes or just goof off during them.
The exceptions, like I mentioned, being the genuinely new and unfamiliar subjects of mythology and forging.
Your character is practical and cold. My character is so angry and depressed that she couldn’t formulate logical questions…
I guess I have been accused more than once of having a cold-blooded mc in this game on this thread and I guess it’s time to own up to that now. I think that his life on the run has served to make this mc of mine cold-blooded, though I think he always was a fairly practical person even before that. Perhaps even Hermione like in his pragmatism, albeit more calculating socially as that would explain his relative popularity and his opting to be a male cheerleader.
My mc tends to be stoic but at that first summoning it would be nice to say something along the lines of
I know fear when I see it. Because of you it’s all I’ve known for years. If you expect my help then keep your threats and your bluffs to yourselves and tell me the truth for once.
A nice “WTF did I even do to you to deserve death?” would be good. For MC the gods personally never did really care about them besides sending those Seekers (which weren’t theirs), but mentioning it as a reason why MC has every reason to not trust them is something the more hateful MCs certainly would do…Honestly even the not so hateful ones considering they discuss about killing MC.
“What exactly do you expect from me?” Not so much to communicate an emotion but to get information how to stay alive.
“You got the wrong one, this is a mistake” For a MC that still hasn’t processed being the Essence, alternative histerical laugher and a small breakdown.
“When will those trials be hold?” And to follow up: “How the hell should i be able to be ready in that short amount of time?”
“Why should I even take part in those trials, when I’m anyway the “Big Bang”? Is that not powerful enough? Wouldn’t some formal training be better to prepare me for being a hero?” Well, with a big ego and fully confident in what the gods just told me, I certainly would wonder why even a trial.
@idonotlikeusernames Ah, see my MC was pretty much worn down by being on the run. They enjoy being somewhere with normality even without people they know, as they anyway never were that social and good at making friends (the only reason strenght is their secondary trait is because their allure is so low). It distracts them. Even when not being told anything frustrates them and being literaly the new one and wondering if the people they are befriending are only nice because they want to save another friend of them doesn’t really help. That Aeson is so populare doesn’t ease that fears.
Well, considering how suicidally arrogant and hateful my MC is, her outburst might look something like this:
“Why should I be on your side? When have you monsters ever given me a reason not to hate, let alone want to help you?! You destroyed my life! You hunted me for years! Why on earth would I possibly want to do anything you ask?”
Like you said this is at the first summoning, basically right after waking up when the mc doesn’t yet know they’ve got to re-take highschool it’s known only as the “institute” to our mc back then and they can be forgiven for thinking that it offers more particular and specific and individualized education than an ordinary highschool.
No I’m talking about the MC just plainly questioning the use of the trial. If they want MC to fight the war why not just train them for that instead of wasting time with trials. A MC who is pretty full of themselve would most likely chose that option.
It’s not about the Institute.
My MC loves the Gods soooo…no outburst there.
So just a simple: “I’m ready to be your hero, you can count on me”?
the antis: we have to kill you blablabla
my MC: ok but first lemme take a selfie
Ah, without knowing the specific nature of them wanting to subject him to “trials” tests to both gauge his current abilities and to see if he’s trustworthy is something my mc could potentially understand, after all he’s learned the hard way to never trust easily and to find out as much about people who he must spend a significant amount of time with that he can.
My mc’s pragmatism here blinds him to the exact nature of the trials however as his first instinct is to assume they’re some form of personalized tests or basic training form hell and are in all likelihood used to determine the position and capacity in which they plan to use him, at least before his eighteenth birthday.
Huh, they just explained to the MC that they will die if they do not win before Hera has her outburst. I think that’s difficult to misunderstand.
Okay, that reaction is better as my idea.
What happens if we don’t win? Like, are we going all commando runaway from the antis?? Or they are just going to kill you before saying you have failed this city
I think the second one (With Ares being the on killing us if he gets his will). Maybe Aeson and the others have a backup plan for that case?
Or Cronus crashs the party to carry off the MC and to make them his second in command. Not sure how likely that is, though.
Killing him for failure is also something he could potentially understand, though he wouldn’t like it of course. It does seem to be throwing potential resources away, then again soldiers whose loyalty is in question are not to be relied on either, which would possibly lead to a statement along the following line “given what you must surely know of me, why do you think I’d make a good soldier or even fight for you at all, after you’ve been trying to kill me for the better part of three years now ?”.
We must win guys at all costs so we can become more arrogant and throw that on other Gods people’s faces
Well your MC has enough distrust to understand it in others.
Imagine someone who doesn’t and pretty much thinks they are great anyway and got just told that they are the energy that created the universe…and then someone tells them they would have to prove themself. HELL NO! They are the Essence, the most powerful being in the universe, how dare the gods to doubt the MC’s capabilities.
For MCs that think like that just questioning the use of the whole trial seems likely. Hybris. Would probably amusing to see the gods react to that much confidence.
