Children of the Gods (Important poll #12306)

You are right Caucasian is not white. I am Spanish and white and as most of Europe Caucasian. However a Marroco or Tunisia people are exactly Caucasian too even if not are pale. The attributes are smaller lips and nose and bones how could say this in English? Small butts and pelvic zone and jaw less wide. I have to say I sm Caucasian to Americans because if I say Spanish they automatically think in tan as hell people with huge hips and that. However Caucasian are synonymous of white in common terms not in criminology or medical ones.

Well people also can trust someone in one instance and distrust them in another.

I think Aeson knows Hades loves him and obviously sees both Persephone and him as family. And he probably trusts Hades to want the best for him (probably also for MC), but he may doesn’t trust him to know how to archieve this.

But I also didn’t get the vibe that Aeson doesn’t trust Hades “at all”, he seemed more conflicted to how much he can depend on him when things get dire. That’s different. Don’t trusting someone at all would mean to not even have to think about such doubts, because in that case you know that you can’t depend on someone.

No you weren’t rude. But I didn’t mean originate from Europe; the reason Caucasian people have light skin is because they settled in Europe. All humans had dark skin until about 10,000 years ago; I’m not saying they came from Europe. I probably should have made that clearer, I have a problem with extrapolating things like that too far.

And Bucky would be yum too. If Thor wasn’t so badass.

Caucasian is a term that describes the physical and biological type of the population of Europe, North Africa, Middle Orient and even sometimes central and south Asia.
It is mostly used in the anthropological field (it is calculated by looking at the index of the body, size waist-hip, craniology, genetical material, etc.) and has nothing to do with white skin.

Though it is used in everyday language to replace the more barbaric term “europoïd”. So it is often a synonym for “white”.
So anyone from european descent is thus caucasian.

Exactly well put I am a lawyer so I studied that only in criminal law so my way of describing it is not the best lol. :sob:

Back in the days before genetics, biologists and anthropologists (nearly always European) attempted to classify all living things by their physical characteristics, and that included humans. Humans as a result were divided up into three to five races based on skin color and appearance. European and Middle-Eastern peoples were classified as Caucasoid, ie. White, Sub-Saharan Africans were classified as Negroid, ie. Black, and Asians were classified as Mongoloids, ie. Yellow. Those were the big three. Depending on who was doing the classifying, sometimes American Indians were classified as Esquimaux, ie. Red, but I don’t think they lasted as a separate classification long enough to get an official name with an “oid” suffix. Later determined to be transplanted Asians, they were eventually classified under Mongoloids. Sometimes African pygmies were classified as Capoids, but later they were folded under Negroids. Sometimes Australian aborigines and Pacific Islanders were classified as Australoids or Oceanoids. Finally, at some point it was determined that Indian Indians were Caucasians even though their skin wasn’t “white”.

That said, it’s all complete BS. As has since been discovered in the age of genetics, all human beings share 99.99% of the same DNA, regardless of skin color, and the distinctions are incredibly minor in the grand scheme of things. Furthermore there is just as much genetic variation inside of some “races” as there are between different “racial groups”, sometimes even more so. As a result, there is only one race, the human race, and we’re all members of it.

Of the old racial groups, only Caucasian remains in common use. The others are now considered offensive. In general, race today seems to primarily be a way of identifying ethnic groupings with which people identify as their tribe. For example, Hispanics/Latino’s are not a distinct race in the original sense of the word.

In fact for us Latino is NOT a race, it is like said ENGLAND race or Usa race. We found it particularly offensive. Latino community could be from every race it depends entirely where you born Latin America, Spain and Portugal. But yeah, race systems are stupid we are same, 99%

@ the person who mentioned being a quarter Syrian and half Italian, I hoped you listed Arab on your college applications, because that would make you way, way more likely to get into college, even if you’re white-presenting.

Woah. It’s just like the fancast thread ages go but more in depth about things (i.e race)

So we won’t veer away too much from the topic, what race did you choose for your MC? Or did anyone choose the racially ambiguous choice?

@Rohie, hope your comp is okay btw :<

We probably are getting a bit off topic now :frowning: but
for the record it was a very recent revelation in my family history, and I’ve never even met my grandmother’s parents so the whole culture is entirely foreign to me. Besides I’m mostly Italian and Mexican (actually not even sure of the percentages, though I’m positive Italian is the dominant). But yeah I always just say I’m white/caucasian because people never believe me when I say I’m Mexican lol. (I went to a dominantly hispanic middle school after I moved to Texas and my nickname was literally Gringa)

Though for some reason my mom is naturally darker and can tan sooo well and she has the butt and everything. It’s like it all just skipped me and I can’t even enjoy Tex-Mex :sob:
@squarelyblue I chose Caucasian only because White American just sounded a little rude to me lol, I really don’t know why.

WE ARE THE WORLD. WE ARE THE CHILDREN. am i punny?

Well, Evander is Hispanic and Native American. He is proud of his mixed heritage, though he sometimes teases people by never stating his birthright.

Mia, on the other hand, is racially ambiguous. In her case I wanted it to be a matter where she isn’t tied to anything culturally, and is more defined by her actions rather than her birthright.

Both of them are Poseidon’s children ('cause they ain’t no killer).

Thank you! @squarelyblue, my sister’s fiancee is taking a look at it (he’s great with computers).

She’s not an actress, (she’s actually a North African model) but she’s who inspired Calypso.

I chose to answer this question not to ignore your other ones, but because they’re all too spoilery. Athena would be displeased about Aeson, wouldn’t care about Avery or Santiago, laugh hysterically at Calypso, and raise in inquisitive eyebrow about Adonis.

When you say “laugh hysterically”…is that a good laugh or a bad laugh, because I can’t tell and I want to be able to tell.

@Rohie that just reminded me. Will we get a chance to withdraw our trust from Athena/Hades/Dad if we choose to initially give them the benefit of the doubt? I only ask because my MC wants to believe there’s good in everyone but I have a feeling Celeste is going to be quite disappointed during/after the Trials

And because the idea of Athena/MC conflict totally gave me flashbacks to TLM and “But daddy I love him!!1” Now that I think about it Celeste is probably 90% Ariel (also am i the only one who pictures poseidon as king triton in my head orrr)

Oh funny thought, the MC might not really know their ethnic heritage.

Athena has basically lied to the MC about everything their entire life, barring the possible exception of the MC’s mother’s name.

And as Rohie revealed, the god’s don’t contribute DNA but change the DNA of their partner, which means that the demigods look like however their divine parent want them to.

So asking Athena “So Auntie Alice, am I really Asian/Hispanic/whatever I don’t have all the choices memorized or is that just how dear old dad wanted me to look?” is a legitimate question.

What? @rohie said that the gods will take on a mortal form of their choosing? Priscilla’s DNA is still her own DNA.

With African roots, who I’ve long been picturing as Calypso:

Does anybody know how to get Zeus as the MC’s father? I’ve been able to get Poseidon and Hades with regularity, but Zeus continues to elude me.

Kill seeker Saxon and have Allure as the highest stat

She’s actually perfectly fit as Calypso.
