Does anyone have any tips on how to get chapter title images looking pretty (and transparent)? I only have Paint at my disposal at the moment and everything I try looks 1) awful and 2) really stark against the beige background of Choicescript. Is there a better way to go about it that I’m not doing? Thank you!

You should try using Photoshop or any other image editor using a transparent background and then saving it in .png

Screenshot the choicescript background, load the screen shot in paint, use eyedrop tool on background, save the color it creates, then paint bucket your image that color

I use [Gimp](https://www.gimp.org/), free and not too difficulty to learn. Just create a new image, (about 500x125px is good), and make sure to click “Advanced Options” and “Fill with: Transparency”.

Using a beige background wouldn’t work for readers who use one of the other background colours though, aye?

(Also I use Gimp too, very useful and there are lots of tutorials available via a quick search, too.)

Open-source master-race ✊🏽

If you want “transparent” image, you won’t be able to do it with Windows’ Paint. You’ll need a bitmap image editor (although vector may also work. Just need extra tweaks at the exporting part).

And transparent image is always saved in .png format ☝🏽

I actually find Gimp really unintuative to use. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, you can do much of what photoshop is capable of with it but it does have a learning curve and when I first tried to use it, I found it frustrating. If you only need simple editing, I’d probably take a look at [Paint.net](https://www.getpaint.net/screenshots.html). Haven’t used that program in ages but from memory it was quite good as a lightweight editor and should be able to do everything you need for a chapter header. Here’s the comparison between gimp/paint.net. [https://www.slant.co/versus/3000/5472/~gimp\_vs\_paint-net](https://www.slant.co/versus/3000/5472/~gimp_vs_paint-net)

When it comes down to it, they’re both free so you can use either.

I know it’s not completely on topic, but what size should such a title picture be?
And other in-game art as well?

I remember someone linking a guide to this recently, but I haven’t been able to find it again. 🤨

Great call on [Paint.net](http://Paint.net), @Jacic. I did find Gimp quite finicky and unintuitive and got frustrated! [Paint.net](http://Paint.net) was so much simpler and easier to use! 😅 Now I’ve got all of my chapter headings looking nice and pretty, thanks for that!

Figured I would revive this thread instead of making a new one…

So is there like a forum expert on chapter title images who can crank them out pretty easily? Frankly I have more money than I have time these days and basically I just don’t have time to learn new things.

I would like some for a project I am working on. It would be optimal if you could go the whole “chapter number and basic image” thing (sorta of like how Moreytown did it) so some art skills would be required. I’m willing to pay obviously. Feel free to reply here or PM.
