BREACH: The Archangel Job - (Released! | Discussion) New Discord

Just played this game and am on my second/ third playthrough. While I was strongly considering writing my thoughts about this game and how i went from “Oh god, ‘another’ Archangel game coming out around the same time as ‘Mortal Coil’” to “This isn’t bad. Not amazing, but not bad…” to “This is REALLY good. It’s not game changing but damn close” to ultimately the point where, when it is done, it will become the new standard all following CoGs are held to… but that would take way too long. Really excited for this.

Couple of thoughts you may have considered that would likely make things a notch better, imo of course.

  1. Could there be a way to purposely sabotage our group in the beginning? It feels like you tease that option if everyone else dies but to get to that point it feels like you have to blunder your way to it instead of doing it on purpose. Kind of was hooping for a “Dark Knight” esque scene.

  2. Could we set it up that our character literally says nothing, especially when the mask is on? Again, it feels like you tease us but don’t fully give the goods as in non controllable dialogue the character will speak

  3. Is there a way to get the special diamond for our RO? Either from the store or from Gabe, it did feel a little disappointing to not get Mouse the diamond she was drooling after in the store. Honestly I’d even take a pay cut if I could see a smile on her face. (Legit love for the Mouse)

  4. Consider making it a bit more clear a character’s sexual preferences. Considering the amount of time I dumped into Hayne only to turn out she’s a hard L despite her flirting made me restart the game in frustration. I get not making that the second thing they say after meeting us but waiting until 3 levels deep isn’t fair either

Game is awesome and you’ve done an incredible time.

Yeah, he hates you lol

you can still romance her with a non-female MC.

I did not know that. Will need to research this further. Danke

You coulda just loaded a save file instead of restarting the game

I doodled Hayne once based on Mr. Dopeness’ instruction. When it’s done I was like, “mm, you can tell that she gay in one look.”
He should be planning on getting it to you later.

Another? I didn’t realize there was another game about Archangels :sweat_smile:

Then again… I don’t go around the forum very often… :sweat:

… I have my doubts about that, but there’s no doubt I’ll do my damn best to make this game better.

This is one of the many things I was planning on having to re-write into the fist chapter. You can most definitely do so… you just have to make sure Kaidan doesn’t find out. :wink:

The “Mute MC” is a concept very much so interested in. We’re trying to implement options to stay quiet as much as possible. But sometimes I would miss a beat or there would be scenes where our characters actually has to speak for plot reasons.

Ben is has said that he can give the MC many ways to communicate without uttering a single word. So we’re planning on re-writing a few of those scenes later.

That… actually sounds nice!

I’ll see to it that you will be able to give the blue sapphire to whoever crew member you want.

Yeah, We’ll go write that right now! (I now see why Ben calls me a hopelessly useless perfectionist) It’ll be coming in the next update!

Oof, sorry there lad.

But I think you’re able to romance Hayne without having to be a female. It’s just incredibly hard and you need to get on her good side.

Hayne is the only RO that has a not-so-strict gender requirement. Every other RO is either male only, female only, or any gender.

Here’s the complete list.

Mouse = Any
Annabelle = Any
Charles = Any
Justin = Male MC
Carly = Any
Hayne = Female MC (Male MCs are possible but harder to achieve)
Kazton = Female MC
Megan House = Any(Unlockable)
Rook = Any
Gabriel = Any
Raquel = Any

Thank you! That means a lot and I sure as hell hope I’m going to finish this game soon :laughing:

Oh hello!

Well while I was sure she was definitely bi, there was enough chemistry going to convince me I had a shot. I never got a “definitive” answer until she outright says she’s not interested in dudes.

Nope. I tried my best but he won’t do it.

Maybe you can persuade him?

Well, this game won’t be this awesome without him… so… I’m trying my best to keep him from leaving :laughing:

… just call me Max. (I already have people calling me senpai, I don’t need people actually calling me Mr. Dopeness)

I’m working on it…

You do have a shot. A very small and obscured shot…

Sounds wild.

You’ve got a shot there. But extremely hard to make her think she can let that one slide and that gender doesn’t really matter. I had the feeling that it won’t go further than the game, realistically speaking although it’s not real.

Ew…

Mother of god :laughing:

Ben mostly writes the romance but I personally wrote the most of the scenes for Hayne

Its not the same, don’t worry. Both games are excellent in their own way. The reason why I thought that was because their game has to do with actual angels (you play the literal Gabriel from heaven). When you spend forever gushing over that and then come across another game with “angels” you naturally get a little skeptical.

To push the point, I stayed away from your game for legit weeks because I just assumed it was a (no offense :sweat_smile:) a sad knockoff. In fact it was only when you put “700k words” that I even considered it so… take that for what you will.

Even as it is now, it’s kind of hit that spot. It has sturdy competition to be sure and no pressure. I just meant that some games come along and change how all following games present themselves. Example, when I first got into CoGs, the “standard” was at the time “Hero Rise”. That was the first one I had read that gave a full story with a story.

After that was Choice of Rebels. That was the first one that had such a ‘complete’ story with so many different variables and felt like there was more choice connected with branching paths, all of them feeling strangely adult and mature despite never getting too graphic with anything. It was also the first game I saw using the “this game has X amount of words in the description”

Yours definitely feels like the next if only for the fact that all other games will start implementing the dice roll mechanic.

To be clear, I’m not throwing shade at any other game. Just saying that, imo, there are some games that change how all later games present themselves.

Honestly Kaiden seems like a tool. Was always the character i liked least. Always giving me shit for loving my mouse. Probably killed me in a past life… :thinking::thinking:

That is awesome to hear honestly. The way Marcus behaves is that he’s a jovial cool dude with the mask off. Not “Rook” (/Deadpool) level crazy but just a normal guy. When he puts the mask on, he just becomes this silent murdering machine trying to headshot everyone like Mr. CandelWick. He only talks to Mouse in this state and only in important situations. (Dude loves his mouse)

I do get that as cool as it is to have a silent murder machine, it’s infinitely harder having a silent murder machine who’s a leader in charge of others. It’s Probably why Raquel is not in charge of any group despite being so high ranking.

Or the Aria diamond that she’s drooling over in the store. Either is cool but since your already in the store and know where it is, pocketing that one specific one shouldn’t be too difficult. Hell, would be interesting if that comes out to bite our rear later on because it’s stolen.

Gabes is good too. Just throwing out the other consideration as well.

That is cool. I was actually doing that as well in my own CoG (if I ever get around to it)

But that makes me feel better. We really connected during that time we distracted, castrated, and subsequently murdered that dude. Just felt bad afterwards when she spurns my advances. Is it a dice roll or just following it story wise?

Is it dice driven? Like you have to roll a 20 to get her to consider it? Or is it further past the third get together, after she reveals what happened to her family member?

… Wow, I might need to revise my game’s title :laughing:

It used to just be “Breach”, but I added in the Archangel Job because I had plans to make other games following the breach Series

The dice roll mechanics are incredibly hard to make since it’s not just a certain randomized roll… the fact that the skills and modifiers play a part is one thing, but the fact that anything can happen and anything can be really strains your brain into pouring out as much outcomes for a certain situation as possible.

Honestly, this game’s set and tone was inspired by Zombie Exodus. A great game, one I always loved from the beginning. I added a bit of real life aspects and a bit of my own weird characters, Ben added his amazing dice rolling system, and thus, Breach was born.

I honestly felt in the middle of writing the game, that I had absolutely nothing for Kaidan to do besides coming in and being in Rook’s place whenever The MC decides to kill rook so I decided to send him off to Los Angeles to set up a sequel (if this game ever takes off :laughing:)

Certain scenes where you have to communicate with someone through the radio can’t really be changed, however… however, we do have a few ideas :thinking:

Raquel is the deadliest and most silent out of all the three. And yet she’s only the group’s medic.

Why not both?

I’ll go write them up right now! (I love how I can hear Ben groaning as I called him as if he already knows what I’m about to ask of him :laughing:)

She breaks bones, crotches, and hearts…

Yes. You’re going to have to be on her good side, and not push her about revealing her history. Pretty soon, you’ll get the option to try to keep “her company” in the third hangout. The game will then roll the dice to see if she’ll allow you.

This is what I came across. I rolled that dice so many times and her constant “I’m gay dude, you’re barking up the wrong tree” killed me more and more each time. Thus frustrating me and going back to the infinitely superior mouse.

Curious about trying something with Ana later but I feel there’s a smidge much of the Cerscie/Jamie dynamic happening (I actually capitulated and kept them together in most playthroughs because I was afraid of how they’d feel not taking them as a package)

You’re not lying :cry:

Again. That would be too cool. If she would accept them, I’d give all the jewels to Mouse.

Side note: You might feel I’m being a bit over the top with the Mouse insertions (sounded weird) but I will say I mean it. She’s the perfect amount of meek femininity that I’m into while simultaneously being an invaluable member of the group. As put in the story, her aid throughout your life was essential to you being at that point in life. To put it in perspective, I named my dual pistols “Ave” and “Lyne”. No joke

Side side note: I say that while at the same time treating Edwyn like shit. I think that says more about me than anything lol

Now that you mention it, I did sense a weird similarity between Raphael and Mouse and Gabriel and Raquael. There seems to have a deep connection to their companion that is beyond a simple RO. While I know both Gabe and Hello Kitty are romances, I feel like it’d be a bit offensive to intrude on that.

The scene that REALLY translated that to me was when Gabe and Raq pulled a gun on Mike. The fact that they both did that told me there was definitely something there

Lol I can get that. Of all the characters he was the weakest. More a statement about the rest of the cast than a dig at that pos Kaiden who may or may not have killed me with his stupid quick draw McGraw bs

Exactly. ZE and ZE:SH are some of my favorite games. I can see some of the influence while making it your own. :+1:t6:

Which is why I feel that that inclusion will be the standard bearer when its done. I mean it adds a coveted amount of realism that others just don’t have simply because I can’t just “meta” the game

More to the point, it was the amount of words you promoted. More words = (in my mind) more options and more interesting story potential, which is what I got. Again, to put it in perspective, Mortal Coil and Wellspring, two other comparable games, also intimate a pretty big word count. You just have more breathing room the more words you have.

Well, the DC range is incredibly high. You’ll need at least a natural 20 if your relationship with her is a 0 modifier and you have no charisma or luck.

She’ll tell you she needs some time afterward, but later at the end of chapter 3, you’ll get to be with her. like… really be with her… in bed…

Oh god, no, ew…

You’ll see how angry Anna can get when they separate

That’s quite a usual response when it comes to most of the people who romances Mouse. And yes, that sounded weird.

This reminds me, I need to finish her hangout. This actually reveals a bit more about The MC’s backstory.

… Ookay, first time I heard anyone’s ever done that :laughing:

Edwyn and Avelyn may be two different characters but they’re basically the same person.

Some like it, some don’t, some find it oddly weird.

Poor Raquel’s been trying so hard to get Gabriel to notice her…

Michael and Gabriel may be best friends, but Gabriel and Raquel have bit of a connection that Gabriel is completely oblivious about.

It’s like a one sided relationship where the other side doesn’t know they’re in a relationship :laughing:

Out of the main trio, sure. But Kaidan is considerably much more deadlier than the crew members… but that’s the problem, he’s only good at one thing… quickdraws.

Kaidan in the next game will be quite different as he will soon learn that being quick at pulling your sidearm and having a silver tongue isn’t much of a skillset when it comes to being a Gabriel.

It’s also a pain in the ass to test, because you can’t “meta” the game. :laughing:

Which was why I added an option where you can deactivate the dice rolls and even set them to land in any number you want.

At first i thought that it was just because of the game’s engine. (The many scripts and roll system and checks and all that stuff). But then I realized that the engine was only 10% of the entire game’s wordcount…

I honestly stopped and thought to myself “What the hell have I been doing with my life?” But then I realized that this game has been in development for 3 whole years. And I’m sure as hell determined to finish this.
