I’ve made a few changes to the game. The first two years, you will only be able to join two of the factions. The demo has been rehashed so take a look. It doesn’t advance further but should play better now. Behind the scenes I’ve spent a lot of time on the bones of the game. (the game engine). Now it’s time to start adding meat to the bones.
I was just think I u going to have a ex cop in jail maybe someone like Jacob fallon from choices of death
The updated demo is working a bit more smoothly for me, not particularly much for me to constructively criticize. The writing isn’t noteable, but it gets the job done. You have a heck of an ambitious project, I will offer my opinions and advice when/if you choose to release an expanded demo.
@13ventrum hearing that it works smoother is all I needed to hear. Working on the story side of it now.
@Stpeter182 I didn’t have plans for a character like that, but you may have given me an even bigger idea - how about the PC being a cop under deep cover. Aside from all the problems you are already going to have to face, you also have to make sure your secret isn’t revealed. Reason for deep cover: One of the Family members controlling business from inside the prison. The police need you to get close to him to confirm it / stop him. Only two people on the outside know your true identity… or something along those lines.
One obvious dilemma to overcome would be an accidental meeting with a cop you used to work with. Having to talk your way out of the situation without giving away to the inmates that you were a former cop.
Even though it says so in the demo right now, I’m not happy with the “imprisoned, but innocent” role and I don’t know if people would want to play the game as a convicted violent criminal. This route (cop) would give me an alternative to have a “decent” PC in the prisoner role.
I like the sound of the cop role can’t wait to see how it play out
I too like the idea of going deep cover.
@Andy: I know you went to a lot of trouble programming random meals and activities, etc. and have big plans for this. But, if you have 9000+ days, times 4-8 clicks per day, a reader will need a new mouse just to make all those clicks. Just because you can generate each day doesn’t mean you should. Unless you’re trying for a Nyan Cat-style endurance trial, you need to condense. As Hitchcock said, “Drama is life with the dull parts left out.”
Nonsense! Realism is all that matters! Especially the dull parts! Just watch this interview of The Film Director Character David Mitchell Plays In That One Sketch
@HoraceTorys, don’t worry, you won’t get to play through every day (there will be times when days/weeks/months skip by) and the first installment of the game will only cover the first two years. For non-storyline related days that you do play through, there will be plenty to do besides ‘click the mouse’
The food changes are just a minor part of it - scenes also change depending on your mood or the time of year, and your options change depending on your personality. I’m creating a dynamic environment that changes around you.
You might want to edit the sentence “You follow him to the side of the room where he introduces you to a guard holding a clipboard and a pen called Forrester.” to "You follow him to the side of the room where he introduces you to a guard, holding a clipboard and a pen, called Forrester. Just a (minor) thought. Other than that, a great start.
Thanks Shintaro.
Progress is going well and the engine is pretty much finished (apart from the collector cards - the code is done, but the execution of it is causing me problems - I’ve started a separate thread for that).
I now have to fill in the many story lines.
Different planned paths:
-Rockers Gang
-Roots Gang
-Family Gang (only two of the three gangs will be playable for the first part of the game).
-Warden story line
-Parents story line
-Partner story line
-History story line
-Mini-puzzles
-Card game
-Escape paths
There’s one hell of a lot to do, but having the engine complete first was the priority. Now I’ll try and get all the story lines started so I can release a proper demo. That’s going to take a few weeks at least!

As you can see, most lists are blank.
I can fill in the lists myself, but I’d like to give you the opportunity to write about any of the topics you are passionate about. Also, if there are other topics you’d like me to include, please suggest them.
The only limit to the number of cards is time!
Oooh this’ll be fun! Okay, for the actor category I submit this:
Pierre Kirby
Known for such hits as Zombie v.s. Ninja, American Commando 3, and Full Metal Ninja, this actor starred in nine films from 1987-1988 before promptly disappearing. He has been gaining a cult following since the 2000s thanks to the growth of the Internet.
For books:
The Count of Monte Cristo
Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 classic, this tale of vengeance and justice has become a cornerstone of the adventure genre even to this day.
(the card’ll be a nice nod to the whole “falsely imprisoned” part of the plot")
There should be a Horror Monsters deck and one of the cards being Zombies.
Katana under Weapons.
I like the idea of the PC being a cop.
But will players get to choose to be a real criminal/ innocent wrongly convicted still?
A role I think could be interesting could be a victim of a criminal who gets thrown into prison on purpose to get revenge maybe the players partner was murdered by a criminal and one of the gang leaders arranges for the witnesses to die making it so the murderer is let go.
For writers, Edgar Allen Poe, of course, and probably H.P. Lovecraft. George Orwell and Orson Scott Card are two of my personal favorites. Maybe Bram Stoker, although only if no once can think of any other particularly great ones.
As for mountians, Olympus Mons (Mars), or just Mount Olympus, and Mons Huygens (Moon)
As for books, I personally have loved 1984, Animal Farm (Both by Orwell), Fahrenheit 451 and Ender’s Game (by Card).
Also Mary Shelley for writers.
Good suggestions coming in. Keep them flowing! I’ll add as many as possible.
Also, the current plan is to have each set available for a period of time in the game before being replaced by a new set. If you don’t complete a set, you don’t get the chance later, but new cards are released instead. The rarity of every card is currently equal, meaning you are just as likely to get the Earth card as the Saturn card, etc. should I change this? Have some cards rarer than others? Have some sets rarer than others?
Furthermore, I’m also planning to add stats to each card for a mini-game you can play with other inmates for cigarettes. Would this influence your thoughts on rarity of cards?
(Current plan is an attack/defence/HP count for each card. Exact game mechanics still tbc).
For cards you generally have
normal
shiny
rare
very rare
ultra rare
for stats rather than attack/defense consider having something like rock/paper/scissors each card has a symbol which beats one but will lose to another.
Will it be just prisoner v prisoner or will the guards get in on the action?
Pokemon cards?
