Bitten!

Okay, I could use some help.

As I’m fleshing out the interactions in the first chapters, the characters are starting to, um, get a little frisky of their own accord. The setting is a west coast hippy commune in the late sixties so free love is in full swing and all these young hepcats are just hanging around together playing guitars and experimenting…

My dilemma is this: almost all of the principal NPCs in the commune are potential ROs for the player but it’s proving very difficult to have the ones who aren’t actively being romanced by the player just hang around in the background. Frankly, they like each other. But should they be allowed to get together in later chapters? It seems natural that they would but how will players feel about this? I know many players get quite attached to ROs so would it seem weird for characters you’ve romanced in previous games to be hooking up with each other in later playthroughs? As a reader, I don’t think that I’d care but I’m not sure that I’d be in the majority. I’d also be grateful to hear about any other titles that you think do this sort of thing well.

Anyway, this might be the best way to settle the question:

Would you feel okay about potential ROs hooking up with one another when not actively romanced by the player?

  • Yes, it wouldn’t bother me at all.
  • No, that would be too weird.
  • I don’t know how I’d feel about that…
