I enthusiastically second that! XOR, in addition to Cataphract’s Infinity and Kendrickstone series, have beautifully fleshed out worlds with histories and cultures that often make me feel like I’m reading through a textbook (in the best way possible). I love being able to inhabit these worlds through the stories they’ve written and the characters we create, they always leave me feeling like I’ve made an impactful (usually small) mark on them.

For games that showcase the use of Choice Script (and that have not been mentioned by @Havenstone and others) I would suggest looking at the following:

Creatures Such as We: a game that uses very little mechanics to achieve its impact (Awarded Second Place in the 20th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition (IFComp))
Tin Star: A perennial favorite that was ground breaking in both depth and breadth when released.
Choice of the Cat: A deep and endearing game from the perspective of a cat; proving that not all protagonists need to be human.
Choice of the Deathless: One of the first adaptations of an existing world into Choice Script.
Wayhaven Chronicles: Book One: A brilliant adaptation of the Virtual Novel Dating genre of games into Choice Script formatting.
Divided We Fall: A dual-perspective political history game about the Spanish Civil War – one of my personal favorites.

There are a lot more games you can glean from the 100 or so posts here but I believe these games give you a strong foundation to begin with.

Deathless: The City’s Thirst: One of the first adaptations of an existing world into Choice Script.

I think City’s Thirst is one of the best games in the CoG library and recommend it whole heartedly, but I think you’re mixing it up with its predecessor, Choice of the Deathless, which I think is the first Choicescript game in a pre-existing universe, unless a game before it is from an IP I don’t recognize

Um hey, i am not really sure if i should post it here since i am looking for some recommendations. Um are there any wips out there based on naval or aviation department?
I have already checked out trinity, Hms forsaker and its prequel or sequel from playstore. I am looking for wips of those two types on the millitary genere. So if anyone knows of any wips on this topics id be really grateful if u share them with me thanks

Hi! Guess it’s been a while since I’ve been on the forums and I’ve played anything from COG, which is why I’m asking for your opinion on what game I should play next!
BTW, here are my top 3 all-time favorite games:

Also, I love games where your choices really mean something and doesn’t just serve as a filler or for the sake of having a choice that doesn’t contribute to relationships w NPCs/Stats/The story.

Oh, our tastes seem so similar. So, the games I would suggest that are not on your list are:

Fallen Hero - oohh, the impact of your choices feels huge (and it becomes insane in book 2, according the wip). It seems as the stats serve to fulfill the story, not the opposite. Tbh, everything about fallen hero is incredible. (Even the fanart)…There are just 2 ROs in book one, but, well, they are amazing. And, if you wanna try other LIs, you could check the WIP of the second book. Oh, the romances are SO good!
A Study in Steampunk - lots of paths that your choices will define. Lovely ROs. Great plot. The focus is not romance, but… Well, I would say it’s not the focus of Slammed neither, however, what’s in there worth it, right? Also, there is a plus, the story is finished! It’s one huge book, in which you can save your progress at some points.

If you haven’t checked out Versus, it’s by the Heroes Rise author and might be up your alley. Otherwise, I think Heroes of Myth hits all your parameters pretty nicely.

Seconded on A Study in Steampunk. It’s my favorite despite being genderlocked. Also Evertree Inn is great and the sequel, Sordwin, is even better. The Superlatives: Aetherfall is also great and gives you lots of interaction with NPC, ROs and not.

I’ve finished some games and left unfinished others. But, if you ask me my Top 3, I would say:

The Wayhaven Chronicles (Great ROs, story and development)
Fallen Hero (Superpowers and great story, what else can you ask for?)
Hero Rise (The first game/trilogy I stayed focus at the end in my first days and love it. Special game for me)

But I’ve to mention I discovered this “world” thanks to the game Magium, you should try it.

Like others before me, I heavily recommend Fallen Hero. You just have to if you love character driven and character interaction heavy stories. The start may be a bit slow? But once the introduction part is done, you’ve gotten to know the characters and their past together and everythiiiing has so much heartbreak potential. The alpha of book 2 is amazing as well.

Already recommended as well but I have to recommend it again: Evertree Inn and its sequel Sordwin (there’s a third game work in progress - Lux - and I think the author mentioned they have many ideas for more games in the series). I just love the characters. In Sordwin, you can take the character you allied with in the first game (two are ROs, one might turn into an RO in a future game) with you on a little journey or decide to leave them behind. And they play a part in the game! An actual part! I’ve been disappointed in some sequels before where your companion from the first game is barely mentioned, has no role to play, feels like they don’t quite belong in the sequel. This is not the case in Sordwin. They are incorporated and have their own arc. (this disappointment is one of the reasons why I like Superlatives: Aetherfall a lot more than its sequel Shattered Worlds. Just has more Dusk)

As others have mentioned, Wayhaven Chronicle is a romance game and focuses on characters. The sequel is on the homestretch right now, being in the editing and soon beta phase. There are about 6 or 7 books planned for the series.

And I agree that A Study in Steampunk is worth a mention as well! It is male genderlocked, but it was all worth it for Finch <3. The start was a bit strange for me and took me a bit to get into, but I grew to enjoy it.

Now some new mentions:

Dragon Racer. There are dragons. And great characters with plenty, plenty of interaction with them. Sequel is in development. I think there’s going to be three games. If you end up liking it, the author is also working on another ChoiceScript game - Insight - right now and has released Superstition, the first game of a series, over at itchio, having used Twine to code it.

Asteroid Run had an enjoyable atmosphere, reminded me a little bit of Firefly.

Heart of the House has a wonderful atmosphere as well as great characters. It’s more in the ~horror/mystery genre so it might be a refreshing change.

I think as you enjoyed the Zombie Exodus games, perhaps you’d also enjoy Choice of Rebels. There’s camp management, especially when you choose to bring your group through winter yourself instead of letting the system do it. (not sure if the CoR in your post stands for Choice of Rebels )

Now, there are some to-be-released and wip games that I want to recommend as well:

The Soul Stone War (first of a series, so many series…) is on the publishing queue right now. It’s going to be character and romance heavy with amazing characters. I love Morkai and Straasa and their dynamics, and I’m very much looking forward to the polyromance routes of the game.

I’ve heard good things about The Shadow Society, also on the queue, but haven’t played it myself. But the place I heard good things about it is a place full of romance (and heart ache) lovers, so I assume there are great characters there.

Another wip to mention is The Golden Rose. It is great already and it has Bill, the horse with personality, who I hope you’d love as well. Bill is a dork, but a lovable dork.

There are dozens of wips on the forums right now of which many are amazing I bet, just haven’t gotten to try most of them so far.

When it comes to my favourite games on here…
Fallen Hero is right at the top, no question there.
The Evertree series is up there as well.
I love Tally Ho and am looking forward to the author’s next games (a series starting with Cake and Ale in the same universe and some cameos like Haze).
I also like Dragon Racer a lot. There are some amazing stories here.

Edit: I completely forgot to mention The Passenger. It’s a wip, and it’s amazing. You play an Eldritch Monster trapped in a human casket and hunted by another Eldritch Monster. Romance options are great far, I’d say especially Roach (not human either, changeable gender) is a fan favourite.
