August's Writer Support Thread

As August ends here is my update.

It’s been hectic and as it was in July barely any writing was done. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and that was a pretty big kick in the ass as she is the only family I have (we are more like very good friends than a son-mother relationship) with it I thought I wouldn’t write at all and abandon everything.

But my love for books is in genes and came from her (she can go crazy with reading books the whole night and her speed is amazing). Thus I swore that I will finish at least one book and give her to read as I’m always jumping around and asking to read my stuff. (literally… imagine 28-year-old jumping around asking to read his writings, kinda funny xD) Although she is not one for the fighting and viking-ish stuff I write… I might put on hold Northern Winds universe and write a book in detective genre (her fave), who knows. Still processing everything. heavy sigh

That’s really heavy stuff to have to deal with. I’m so sorry to hear, and my best wishes to you and your mom.

Me too, have a nice idea already, but it will get romance with a light Ghost story, Not Horror I guess.

well, Ghosts and love can be a Halloween theme exactly the same. In fact, In the Spanish tradition is about love, not fear. We put flowers in our departed tombs and we go to visit them in the cemetery to say that we still love them. And We go to Theatre or Tv to watch Don Juan Tenorio That is a love story of Love and redemption after death something like Ghost but with duels killings and Casanovas.

So I cheer you to go for a love Ghost story.

Same with @Kaelyn, I’m going to go with a light ghost story, with a dash of comedy. I’m not exactly a big fan of horror  No romance though (probably).

I’m not really proud of it the way it is, I’m always second guessing my plans and if the chapter will have any important choices. Since its basically still part of the MC’s origins I’m guessing it’s okay if it’s not having much of an impact. Thoughts?

You can come back later to add/adjust choices after finding inspiration from a future chapter.

Beta-testers exist for a reason. Your english doesn’t need to be perfect to write.

Nice idea. But wouldn’t it get a little confusing?

Beta testers don’t grow on trees I didn’t found editors in almost any of my games. People simply don’t want to invest their time in a no popular writer. And I can understand why they are no interested in editing 30k or more. So or I do it by myself or pay 10k I don’t have in a paid editor fora complete story game.

Don’t put yourself down like that, I’m sure plenty of people would be happy to help I’m sure. I’m a bit of a stickler for grammar myself, not that it bugs me, just that I notice it easily and I’d be happy to test anything you write.

It could be confusing just because it’s a different chapter (different headspace, so to speak). But it’s also an opportunity to mentally run through the story between those chapters and see what else can be updated.
(I did that after finishing chapter 5 to go back and added a few more dialog options in chapter 1)

Word count: 30,726 of 20,000 (+10,712 words last week)

This is my best month of writing in possibly years, and my word count above doesn’t include code or any writing that did not directly go into a story (example: writing ad copy, writing the “intro”, stuff like that)

Still, CCH 2.5 needs at least another 15,000 words by Sept 15th, which is doable especially because of the long US weekend coming up.

I look forward to seeing what everyone accomplishes in Sept!

No thoughts. Don’t ask me for reassurance — just do it.

First off, congrats to everyone in the thread for everything they’ve accomplished this past month! Personally, I’m pretty sure I will be able to finish the first draft of my first novel by September 3rd which was my initial goal. I have around 6K ish words to write in the next three days +today. This month I have written nearly 15K words, which I am quite pleased with since I only picked it up again around the 20th of August give or take. I’m excited to see what September brings! (And also kinda dreading editing my mess of a first draft considering my ideas and important plot details changed in the middle of writing the novel lol :joy:)

Crowd sourcing can do wonders overtime, failing that yeah I guess you’d have to read it through yourself until you work out the worst of it. Even then nobody expects perfection, it’s ok to make mistakes.

Only 5k, in the end. :frowning: But almost all of that was in the second half of the month, I’m feeling the momentum, and I’m almost out of a branchy bit that’s been slow going. So let’s see about 10k in September!

5k is better than none and I am sure you will do great next month.

I was really happy to get my Chapter 2 in the bag this month, and I’ve got a very solid plan put together for Chapter 3. The next step is actually doing the coding, which… We’ll see. I’d really like to get it done in September! if time and brain allow, I’ll have it sorted.

My project manager says I wrote 11,500 words this month, but my main focus is only at 7,750 … so I do not know how to count this month’s production.

I had some life events intervene to interrupt my efforts and there were quite a few updated projects this month by various authors that also diverted my attention.

I received a few nice actionable feedbacks from the Slice of Life demo I finished. I am very grateful for those who decided to provide the feedback.

With what I learned, I shall set out in September to work on both projects – I feel I can do this but it will require taking the next step in keeping disciplined and focused.

Thank you to everyone participating this month — the support thread really is serving the community.

Congrats to everyone … there is too many individuals to name now without forgetting someone, so a group thanks will need to do for this month’s end.

I’ll open a September thread tomorrow.
