Yea… it’s pretty normal. I remember friends and I having relationships around that age. Awkward kisses, hand holding, truth or dare etc. Most ppl I know didn’t wait till 18 for the other stuff either.
At that age holding hand is the furthest I go, date is actually just getting lunch together and watch movies maybe sneaking up at night in hope to not get caught.
The main character is indeed young and romances will be written delicately for that reason. As others mentioned, my intention is to write an adolescent relationship and the growth that comes with it. That includes hand holding, first kiss, awkward first date, prom, ect. Should any content unintentionally cross the line for whatever reason, it will be removed and handled more appropriately the moment it’s brought up.
That said, romances in this first game are not available until the final chapter. It will gradually become more prevalent as the series continues and the characters mature.
Thank you to everyone who explained my intentions before I had the opportunity to respond.
Just not for me then, but good luck on your story
As someone who has trauma regarding their own older sibling, Chase grinds my gears. I legitimately hate him. But i think you did a good job with the push and pull that that kind of trauma has, where you hate them but deep down, you still care for them. Loved this wip.
Thank you, that means a lot! There were definitely some scenes with Chase that were much more difficult to write than others. I’m glad you enjoyed the story!
“Legal schmegal! Laws can’t stop love!”
The heart stricken expression is too innocent for you to snap his hopes and dreams, even if he’s being beyond ignorant. All you can do is change the subject and hope that Casen doesn’t make stuff up that’ll get your new teacher sent to the slammer.
Y’know if fighting mutants doesn’t work out they could always be a Discord Moderator…
In all seriousness however I really liked the bit I got to play before having to get back to work. It’s a unique setting that splitting into multiple books seems impressive ambition rather than the highway robbery that takes forever to get on with like some series. I won’t be naming names but they were the ones that were forgotten…
The gaminess of the intermissions isn’t something I’d want to become the standard for all IF but I do like it as an experiment.
Though it does seem a bit strange how it’s set up like a university but it teaches what seem to be high schoolers? Though again I did enjoy the taste of the setting I got. I also like how your brother is a professor, and how his name changes with yours. I know it’s a small thing but for some reason I appreciate it. I also like how Chase feels like a sibling who just became a new professor, so far he seems like a real one, I sure do hope he doesn’t die at the end or something. I also like Casen feels like a lot of the teenagers I knew from various places, like the drone camp I just got done assisting with. So I guess things really did come full circle…
I also like the name of Spoon and Fork. That was definitely one of the better name select screens I’ve seen, which doesn’t have a ton of people actively competing for that title, but that makes me appreciate it more.
I didn’t read enough to say much else but it was a good first impression.
You would not have survived my middle school experience, my guy.
The intermissions are definitely going to be receiving the most experimenting throughout the series! There will be a lot of additions and changes to try and find the right mix between game and story.
Keep this between us, but all of the Spoon Forks will have a secret choice to rule the entire world by the time the last book comes around…
I’m happy you enjoyed it!
So far I like the story, somehow like nice coming of age story, if I am going to suggest something there is a need for more quest during intermission or maybe add more side story during intermission, some silly story like getting ice cream, playing in the park or something like doing prank because MC and friends still a teenager this event could add more character interaction as well.
I have question, Since this is story about academy and students how about tour or field trip outside the city, not somewhere dangerous and far away maybe there is a satellite community which connected to the city which still considered as safe zone?
Keep in mind that Pristine seems to be planning multiple books in this story, so it’s unlikely the school would send brand new students out to fight actual mutants, especially given how fervent they seem to be about protecting students.
I get the vibe that it’s going to be vaguely Harry Potter-ish, with the earlier books being pretty innocent and simple with the books getting more dangerous and involved as the protagonists get older.
I see so this is just book 1 ehh.
@Cryzhentia Quests will be more relevant in later games! I’m trying to use them to give a spotlight to side characters/npcs without a relationship bar and eventually side plots that don’t fit in the main story for the main characters. I actually have a Quest lined up where you get to just hang out with the female cast and another with the males; so expect sleepovers, truth or dare, tests of courage, and the like!
As for your second question, there will be field trips and exploration outside of the city! You’ll steadily learn more about what is outside Gallandor. @anon12679161 is spot on, the plot will eventually get darker. Let’s just say the Unknown will be known by the time the series is finished!
Can’t wait for the completely unrelated-to-mutants high school martial art delinquent side quest.
Also random suggestion but maybe add an option to actually want to go along with our best friend’s idea to go with the girls but realizing it’ll never work and Casen asked too late so you missed your shot anyway?
Always wondered why we didn’t have at least one guy try to sneak in the girl’s dorm in Harry Potter, especially since we already have lore about what the stairs do when that happens and it would make for a funny scene and more games should let me be a little shit.
That’s actually a problem I’ve noticed with my writing so far that I want to fix! I have a bad habit of forcing the straight man role onto the main character when it comes to Casen’s antics rather than allowing for equal opportunity goofiness. I probably won’t alter that specific scene too much since it’s one of Casen’s more ludicrous suggestions meant to highlight his immaturity. But I will definitely add more fun options when I look back on everything during the second draft!
Yeah, that’s something I kinda noticed, especially at the end where Casen apologize for always getting me involved into stuff…When I did nothing but jump at every opportunity to get involved into crazy thing and borderline pushed even harder than Casen to go fight the mutant.
And how some of our friends kept talking like I was reluctantly dragged into stuff by Casen when I never actually did or said anything about not being okay with Casen’s shenanigans and was honestly the instigator a few times.
So I’ve decided to do progress reports from here on out to keep the thread somewhat alive and all of you up to date so nobody thinks this project is dead again…for the fourth or fifth time…but I have no idea what I’m doing, so let me know if there’s anything you want added to it/couldn’t care less about and want removed. I decided not to add it to the title so nobody confuses this with an actual game update. Here goes…
August 2024 Progress Report:
Most of my progress has gone to setting up the outline for the Final Intermission and figuring out which characters/Quests will be set in Beck and which ones will be located in Anti-Mutant academy. The code has been laid out for everything in regards to the the Intermission “menu”, so now just to write everything out!
I’ve very close to finishing Ruth’s Bonding Activity in the intermission. Unlike past chapters, the layout for these will be the same for all characters, just with different topics. Hopefully that means it will be a little quicker getting through them since I have to do it about…8 more times. But I did finish Ruth’s confession/setting up her romance route! I’m happy with it for now, but I’ll have to see whether I want to have a similar setup for all the romances or make each one unique. I’ll also see whether her route was long or short depending on how the rest go.
Finally, I’m going to slowly work on Quests in between doing everything else. They always end up being more ambitious than I would like in terms of coding so the plan is to take my time and hopefully I don’t have to simplify my vision. There’s 2 Quests this Intermission and I still have the Ch. 5 Quest that I want done for the next update, so make that 3.
Well that’s that! I hope that’s a decent amount of information. I’ll probably do these bi-monthly or monthly if I get a lot done…so please don’t close this thread mods…
Ohh nice a sit rep, It’s probably better to checking in once in a while while the story is progressing, we’re basically still in early part of the story (since this is planned for multiple book), the action is still mostly just prank or silly stuff not something serious.
There is no need to worry because the discussion
and interest will rise when we get to the thrilling part of the story like fighting mutant or advanced to higher class and start venturing outside solving this mutant issues.
Good point! This first book is basically the prologue content/plot wise. A prologue 4 years into the making, but a prologue nonetheless!
