First, holy shit, three years and three chapters. I really thought this was going to go faster. That said…
'Cause I know I’ll fiddle with this to hell and back if I give myself the chance: It’s in working condition (at least is passes randomtest), and everything up through chapter three is done (although not fully so), so it’s going up: Æon Sage
There are still written parts that I need some work on before I even consider them second draft, but I’ll work on them next week or so.
Also, posting stats really helps me get a sense of things. Randomtest is great for telling me how the game can be played, but it does jack all for telling me how it is played.

There was a spelling error on the choice where you choose to save the humans, and line 296, invalid return; gosub has not yet been called on the stats screen. I’ll say more when I have more time, but it’s looking really spiffy, although a bit more text-heavy than what my poor powers of concentration can handle all at once, I’m afraid.
Is there anyway to save everyone at the end with the investigator background?
@Player Yes. Annoying that the error is right in one of the most obvious bits of the game.
@MutonElite Specifics on the spelling error would be appreciated (I don’t see one, but that may just be because anyone that write has trouble checking their own works for such things), and Notepad++ is flagging nothing. As for the return, fixed (Do your errors mention scene names? 'Cause those are also really helpful). And yea, I end up rather ‘heavy’. I do fancy myself a more serious writer, so it’s bound to happen.
@friendzone Actually the thing that gave all the pilots a boots was an error on my part (which has been now rectified). Anyone choosing the ‘pilot’ path now only has about a 50/50 chance of getting a free shot at saving everyone (and that’s only if they choose hard mode). As for specifics of who can save everyone? The current set up is for easy play throughs and 50% of hard play throughs to require high intelligence/technology with a cybercomm giving a large boost to intelligence for that purpose. (I can give more specifics if someone wants, or they can always check it themselves.) (The other 50% of hard play throughs require piloting straight up to save everyone).
Awesome! So glad to see such a good story isn’t going to waste. For some reason, though, When i follow the link on my phone’s browser, or google chrome, i get the error: “line 131: Invalid create instruction, only allowed at the top of startup.txt” and I can’t play.
@Polyhymnia Fixed. I broke that today in fixing something I thought was already fixed (I forgot Dan included a thing where nothing can get in between the *creates at the beginning.)
Yeah, I noticed the int/tech check, but anytime I’ve managed to get them high enough with the investigator background it immediately ends at that part and everyone dies so I assumed I had neglected some other stat for that to happen

Yea, there’s a check before you get to the choice that you have enough fitness/freefall. I’ll go ahead and check to see if it is possible with Investigator/Medic, and if not I’ll tweak the difficulty. (It is supposed to be a very difficult scene, the main reason it doesn’t appear to be looking at the above records is that I accidentally made hardmode an autowin for it if you have pilot the first time around).
Ah. I didn’t know about the fitness check. It is possible to save everyone with the medic background.
Well, did some tweaking. Brought down the fitness/freefall requirement (It was docking around 30% of randomtest, which is maybe a bit higher than I wanted). Also, before it mandated having at least 10 freefall (maybe more, but the only check I have to compare is < 10), but now that’s not true.
Also, it is possible to get through with everyone saved as an investigator without a cybercomm. Randomtest gave 971 random attempts to go the tech route without a cybercomm, 35 of which succeeded, so (unless I’ve messed something up or misunderstood something), it is possible, but with a 3.6% success rate, it’s probably a very specific set of choices that is required (and it may even require hardmode. I forgot to check for that. Damn.)

How many people is everyone anyway?
2 people always seem to die.
Yea, that wasn’t very clear of me, at the very least two die (the elderly couple). All the possibilities are:
- Knocked out before you even get to choose. (7 die)
- Just run, with the father/mother following you (6 die) This actually has a tiny benefit in that you will lose a few stat points (in perception and possibly fitness) in the encounter, and this minimizes the loss.
3a) Get both the avians out, and the father/mother follows (4 die)
3b) Attempt to get the avians, but fail in getting the boy (Willpower) (5 die)
- Save the humans (4 die)
5a) Attempt to hack the ship and succeed (2 die)
5b) Attempt to hack the ship and fail (7 die)
- Pilot the ship to safety (2 die)
Option 6 only shows up half the time if hardmode was selected (and when it does it replaces option 5).
