Hmmmm…why don’t they just do a quick ceremony in private just for us then? Having to go with the thirteen year olds is quite humiliating when you’re sixteen after all, particularly so for an mc coming from a background of being bullied and ridiculed and who has developed limited social skills as a result.
Good idea! IF the mc actually knew how to do any magic at all, which they don’t. Maybe we’ll have learned the spells needed to stay in shape in a couple of years, until that time we just need to do it the old fashioned way and my mc very much wants to keep his “new” body.
Ewww…demons in this game are gross and apparently make you look gross too. Also they steal your soul, another thing my mc would like to keep, so that’s a no.
Why? Our face is presumably just as fine as the rest of our mc’s at that point. I get shapeshifting magic is cool, but it wouldn’t be my mc’s absolute first priority to learn.
Coming back to this I don’t suppose we can wait in a backroom somewhere until our name is called and then leave right after, right? Of course I have a sneaking suspicion they’re going to call the mc last anyway.
You want to be recognizable in the ceremony? Plus even without the unlimited applications of stealing/changing faces, I’m hoping I can be like the thing. (the alien not the rock)
You have a point, but one that can be dealt with quite literally by a simple mask, rather than risking either someone messing around with us and then conveniently “forgetting” to change it back or messing with our appearance ourselves by way of powers we haven’t been able to use for very long and we are thus untried and tested with and are barely beginning to understand, if that.
I’d still hate to stand out even if no one sees my face, as I’m guessing everyone would know that it’s us even through a picture. Actually scrap changing my face, I’ll aim for changing into a kid. Anyway, our talent always seems to go back to our parents, I hope to go we have something to help with magic, hopefully along the lines of copying or stealing…
True, but it seems there is no way around “standing out” anyway. At best we can alter the terms on which we stand out a bit. My mc would be content with wearing something non-descript, waiting in a back room until his number is up and wearing a face covering mask. The possibly permanent risks of harming his newly pristine body (or having it harmed by some joker) through use of powers he barely comprehends at that stage have to be weighed against the temporary humiliation we must suffer at that ceremony.
Ugh, no not something for my mc, he’d rather change into an old man, just so he can get properly boozed up.
Also he wouldn’t want to be stuck as a thirteen year old kid for months or weeks or even years if something goes wrong with the transformation.
We don’t. We do have something to hinder us with magic however, something that has kept us ugly and bullied for years beforehand and is the reason we missed the normal date and age for that ceremony in the first place.
Actually we don’t know if they don’t know any magic, they might know simple ones like losing weight. Out better yet, all the food is magic and made for the Dutch to not get any weight.

There are probably great teachers at the very least with them wanting us for their clubs. And if we could get rid of that damn locket without demons, it’ be perfect, though then we’d be able to do anything and conflict would have no value.
Yeah, but not before that ceremony, which means my mc wouldn’t trust his powers to mess with his body and appearance when for the first time in his life it isn’t causing him literal, physical pain or any other uncomfortable issues.
So wearing something non-descript, waiting in the back room and wearing a mask, while all non-flashy, low-tech and non-magical solutions are still likely the best he can do or at least is willing to risk with the resources available to him at that time.
The joining will happen at the middle of the history, IIRC. So I doubt we will remain without knowing any Magic until them, the MC will not be the most powerful witch by then, but I doubt they will be powerless as you think.
And do you really think you will be able to choose a coven without anyone noticing you? The MC is the miraculum, the witch from the prophecies, everyone will want to see their ceremony.
And another thing I see is that you think it will be something humiliating for the MC, when actually every witch from the coven you choose will be evejoyed for you to have chosen them, no one will look down upon your MC.
The only sixteen year-old at a party/gathering tailored to thirteen year-olds? You betcha.
We probably have to train with them for some of our lessons, considering our lack of skill as well, which is would be highly frustrating. It’s like being held back not even one but three years in school in jurisdictions where they actually do that.
Drawing more attention to it makes it even more humiliating for my mc, not less.
Still powerful enough to mess with his body when for the first time in his life there’s nothing wrong with it is a big step up from maybe being able to cast some simple cantrips and brewing a basic potion or two.
