A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 224k words. Updated 29/01/2025!

Oooh, whats your story called? Or is it not out yet?

To be honest, I’m more interested in whether we’ll be able to ask the Seeker to teach us how to use a sword, considering he’s our tutor most of the time I don’t think it would be out of the question? And a bonus is asking Nova to make a sword of our own
(punching things really hard is fun, but being able to use a great technological sword would be cool too)
Ps: just a suggestion, I know there’s already a lot of variation, but this idea always pops into my head when I read this wip (it’s one of my favorites)

This is what I’ve never understood. In the context of the story you’re being forced to interact with these people, your future self is telling you what you must surpass and/or defeat them, and most of the time you’re getting dragged into situations they’ve not adequately prepared you for. Why would you want to romance any of them?

IIRC you’re only ever told you’d need to get as strong as the strongest of them because you’ll be facing a big bad that’s going to be really bad. Nothing about it implying that you’d be fighting these people instead of working with them. So technically there’s no indication that getting closer to them would be any problem.

When it comes to female ROs two out of three of them don’t have any say about what you get dragged into (and one of them being your longer term friend) so it’s also not like that’s something to hold against them specifically.

Lat has captivated me with her “forgot my best friend is an orphan” swag.

How long is the demo currently? It ended up after meeting Ignis and Seeker, telling us we’ll become a hero.

Far far further along than that if its the scene im thinking it is.

Maybe I just don’t trust voices in my head that tell me the only way forward is to punch friendly people (and Forlorn) merely because the issuer of the voice looks like me. Like, this thing is, AT THE VERY LEAST, keeping important information from me, and possibly outright lying. Why would I trust it when it tells me I should commit violence?

Because Aki is both a fantastic human being AND loves horror movies.

I think it’s the first link to the demo. The other one let me through the rest of the chapters.

You don’t trust the voices in the head of Lat neither? For shame! Latooni, best girl, would never betray us!

Wouldn’t she, though?

To be honest, from personal perpective it could be handled much better.

As I stated for multiple reasons (aside from Ignis being a RO), choices matter and they have consequences.
It’s a risky move. We can already see how people are reacting to it for over a year.

Hi! Sadly, no. I am still in a starting phase (such is my luck as a college student).

Not to mention setting the character’s backstories so they can tie in into future sequels and such aside from worldbuilding, lore and setting the plot for the future. Since I plan to implement subtle messages to the world that we live in and situations that happen on daily basis to the people that surround us that are both close and far.

There probably won’t be a demo out for a few years since I want to dedicate fully to my future IF completely without a deadline hanging over me or having to choose what to do (and not be burnt out). Thank you for asking!

No problem, I’ll still look forward to it!

My point is, you don’t know what’s going on or who to trust or even how much more you need to prepare. Is it really the time or the group of people to be even considering any romances with?

Sounds like I could suddenly die without warning, so

yeah, definitely.

(Wow, it’s really going to make me write a “complete sentence.”)

All this Ignis discussion when Aki clears them anyway

I mean, romance is hardly something that operates on logic or bends to it. The heart wants what it wants and if the MC catches some genuine feels then (considering they aren’t exactly an old, experienced and jaded adult with bunch of romance experience under their belt) it can be quite naive to expect them to act as if they are a perfectly rational robot.

As long as the author doesn’t bogart all the major fights and hand them over to yours truly because “MC is still new” and “will be a different kind of hero to the team” then I’m good. We have a talking alien in our head, give us someone interesting to punch. Anyway, almost forgot how fun this thread is xD
