A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 193k words. Updated 31/12/2022 with Chapter 5!

I think it was mentioned on here or tumblr that Victoria has a serious problem with authority so that might be why she said fuck it and tossed the Seeker stuff to Kratis.

Well, the problem is with someone else trying to force their authority on her. That gets the claws out.

Victoria grew up in a rather oppressive system as a member of the underclass. She got out of that, and she has no interest in listening to the whims of others who would see her returned to that.

And, as you’ll recall, one of the big things about being Seeker is having a lot of freedom to do what you want, regardless of what others want you to do.

Victoria’s loyalty is to Kratis only, really.

The reason she stopped being Seeker is a slightly different one. :stuck_out_tongue:

Think of them as volume covers vs Databook pieces, I suppose. Kingdom for example has very different looking volume covers from what other official material looks like.

By the way, I mentioned this in Discord last night, but I thought it might be a good idea to get something extra to ‘celebrate’ the milestone of 1k+ replies. I’m getting our favorite gruff man done by Erineas as part of it, but I also thought it might be a good idea to do another one of those ‘lore’ articles. Not necessarily about the world at large, but there’s plenty of topics to focus on.

Before, I kind of wrote them based on what I wanted alone, but I thought it’d be nice to give you guys a chance to decide what you’d like to see, so I’ve made a mini-poll on a few topics that came to mind.

  • Part 2 of The King’s Ramblings.
  • The Treaty of Chandax, a transcript of the meeting between the Hero-Monarchs and Romanos II.
  • Part 1 of Laura Coltello’s Diary.
  • Your Own Suggestion!

I’ll leave it open for about a day or so, so feel free to take your time deciding which one you’d prefer. I can confirm each and every single one of them will contain hints for the story at large! :smiley_cat:

Hmm
either something Mars or creepy alter ego related as those are the two things I really want to know more about. If it is just artwork then Mars, obviously.

There’s a very distinct, egregious, and, dare I say, criminal lack of Aki-related options in this list.

Presuming you’re not going to let any plot revelations slip (meaning most of Seeker-related stuff isn’t on the table), and seeing as I’m too much of a gentleman to go snooping in a lady’s diary, I’d say either the King’s Ramblings for more insight on BK or more background stuff on Nova. Or, y’know, anything you got on Aki.

That would be because essentially anything I could write about Aki except for ‘Seeker teaches Aki what a laundry machine is and how to fold sheets’ is prone to massive spoilers. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm, the alter ego gets a decent spotlight in Chapter 5, so maybe let’s keep him as an option for the next few chapters. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, actually counting the votes, Laura’s Diary and The King’s Rambling 2 came out at a tie, which means I will do them both. Electricity’s been a bit of a dick today (haven’t gotten more than 200 words on the game itself because of it), but I have finished one of the articles:

Enjoy! I will post The King’s Ramblings 2 tomorrow, if I’m lucky.

Oh, look, it’s ANOTHER pebble of suspicion into the “Gloria’s involved with the Cult” mountain.

Nah, I was thinking it looks more like Gloria hates Seeker for personal reasons, like say previous Seeker or this Seeker was responsible for death of someone related to him.

Then write about Mars, always curious to learn more about the cutie.

So can we finally ask them what they really are? What the Q continuum, or whatever their alternate dimension is and why they body-snatched us of all the billions of people?

You’re both incorrect on what the meaning of that meeting is, btw. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not quite, but you’ll get a chance to see a whole lot more of them soon. :stuck_out_tongue:

Saint, what a load of information we’ve gotten this past week. Thank the Heavens, there are so many little details that just pop out now and make one think about what secrets our friends are hiding from us. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good thing my main hero Fractal is a reluctant but ultimately trusting hero who believes in the power of love and friendship to triumph.

Ngl, it’s incredibly ironic that you used both of these in the same post.

It would also likely get you branded a heretic by almost everybody, but it’s not like you’re not high on the list anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way, I did The King’s Ramblings article! It’s here:

It is a lot longer than the previous one, and includes many more hints than the last one, too.

I hope you catch onto at least a few of them!

Ohshit.

Interrrrrrresting

Hola, señor. Also, swords (well, A sword) again.

No reference of the then-Seeker hitting Berlin, so maybe the Seeker heritage isn’t ordained by the King?

Also, he misses her.

Did you find this bit interesting

He has even brought the Guard

What a coincidence isn’t it, Seeker shows up in Crete and so does “the Guard”. :slightly_smiling_face:

On the one hand there is an argument its Seeker’s Jian, but it was created in Europe, so

The Guard is the Queensguard, the dudes who were basically faffing around the Tomb. This makes it tricky for Seeker to be part of the Queensguard, because “faffing around the Tomb” would make it hard for them to, well, seek.

There’s an interval of over 3 weeks between the German invasion and Seeker showing up. Regrettably, we don’t know at what point the Guard was brought in, but I THINK it’s before Seeker gets in on the action, because when they do the rest of Europe sends reinforcements to Crete, and I’m pretty sure the Guard was already boosting the Nazi Kill Count by a bunch by then.

I am not so sure that is the Queensguard he is talking about, their function seems to be to guard the mountain from any who would approach it, doubt they will abandon that duty for anything, and I think they might be private entity and Minas probably can’t compel them.

It’s always possible that that particular Seeker used “they” pronouns, but this

may or may not be true of the Queensguard, but it’s DEFINITELY not true of Seekers. Presumably, Minas going “hey, remember when Chamberlain thought the Nazis would stop if they just let them have Poland? Do you think they’re going to get Crete but somehow stop at the mountain edge?” would get the Queensguard interested.

Seeker attacks Berlin in 1945, btw. This entry is from the Battle of Crete, in 1941.

Funnily, Seeker does turn Berlin into rubble, just like the King wanted. :smiley_cat:

And the ‘Guard’ in this case refers to the Queen’s Guardians, yeah.

The Guardians claim to follow the Queen’s will.

Protecting Crete is a pretty big part of that.

Before Seeker decides to cuisinart some Nazis at Crete, too, then?

Well, I’m laughing.

Slightly before, yes. Seeker has not made his appearance yet when the King is flooding Berlin.
