For those who don’t him, US Agent is what you get if you cross Captain America with the Punisher, and then turn the “absolute douchebag” dial up to 11… thousand. My nickname for him was Captain Fundie America.
Fair enough. I know I said I’d make one more comment just now but something just popped up in my mind.
How long did Stratton serve in his term before the whole mind take over fiasco? Because technically, a US president can use a certain loophole to serve more than 4 years for one term or 8 for 2. For example, when JFK was assassinated, LBJ had to step in and finish out JFK’s term which was about 2 years I think and he went on to win a term where he put in 6 years in total.
Well considering that I still think other mc is some sort of energy alien it stands to reason the king might have one of those too and, in that case, maybe mc’s creepy alter ego needs to fight them over something quite literally out of this world or even dimension.
In any case creepy alter ego is likely keeping some very big secrets from mc.
Wasn’t it said that half of his own party hates him? That would be the main difference between the Liberation party and the Republicans we all know and hate…the half of the Liberationists who dislike Stratton were implied to have already turned him into a lame duck and stymied and stonewalled his legislative agenda almost completely. So here Stratton at the very least does not control the Liberation party the same way Trumpists have seized near complete control of the Republican party.
Apparently we are not good enough yet despite our efforts. It would help a lot if we knew what we fighting or fighting for. The alter ego just went on holiday without saying anything
If the Cabinet wants Stratton back, Congress doesn’t get a say. Per paragraph 2 of Section 4, when the President sends his “I’m okay” letter, the Acting President and the Cabinet have to send a contradicting letter to the presiding officers of Congress within 4 days or else the President automatically resumes office. Congress only gets a vote if the Acting President + a majority of the Cabinet sign that letter. If a majority of the Cabinet chooses not to sign that letter, then Stratton comes back and Congress gets to just watch. All the Cabinet needs to do in order to get Stratton back is…nothing.
Or, if a majority of the Cabinet is in disarray or unable to sign for whatever reason…
Half his party hates him, sure, but half of the Republican Party hated Trump too. If you think Cocaine Mitch McConnell did anything for Trump without grinding his teeth…well, plenty of Hill journalists are ready to disagree.
In any case, whether or not half the Liberation Party hates Stratton doesn’t matter. Whether or not White House staff hates Stratton doesn’t matter. The only thing between Stratton and the Oval Office right now are the 24 members of the Cabinet of the United States which he elevated - and if 13 of them think Stratton’s a better deal then Gloria, he’s back. We can presume that Stratton picked some people as peace offerings. Trump picked Elaine Chao as Transportation Secretary (SecTrans). She had served as SecTrans in a prior administration (Bush 43 I believe) and is without question qualified for the job…but she’s also married to Mitch McConnell, which just might have had something to do with her nomination. Presumably there’s a few of those in the Stratton Cabinet, but you usually pick loyal people for your cabinet. Half the Liberation Party might hate Stratton, but that half probably ain’t in his Cabinet, and if things go wrong enough for Gloria, they might want Stratton back.
Trump, of course, commanded next to 0 loyalty from his Cabinet and the turnover was record-setting. Stratton, however, is not a perfect Trump expy. Let’s check. @Jjcb, how stable has Stratton’s Cabinet been?
In any case, I’m also relying on some meta-knowledge here. Jjcb put a global variable in the code which tracks Stratton’s popularity. I don’t think that’s just for kicks, which means we aren’t done with Stratton yet.
It’s been pretty solid, partly because Stratton listened to Gloria on some of the appointments. The Secretary of Defense and Director of National Intelligence are Gloria recommendations. Stratton has many flaws, but knowing which followers to raise up is actually a strength of his.
Yeah, but it seems the in-game Liberation party has a much broader tent and more diverse base, which makes opposing Stratton much less of a risk than opposing Trump is for the Republicans in real life as opposing Stratton does not seem to be a political death sentence in the primaries of the kind Cheney just got.
Sure, that is real life, in the game world it seems there seem to be actual Liberation party leaders and Senators who are not just grinding their teeth and twiddling their tumbs and cowering in fear of their own base but outright telling Stratton NO on much of his legislative agenda.
If it is the one about regulating superhero’s in general and the League in particular more tightly and integrating them much more with the government I’d be more weary of Senator Maxwell winning the next election, that seems to be ongoing throughout the game, since mc crashed a Revo primary debate between Maia and Maxwell, in book 2.
As it stands both Stratton and Maxwell seem to want tighter legislation and more integration with government/military while both Gloria and Maia seem to be opposed to such moves, albeit I think for very different reasons.
Currently Stratton, even if he were fit for duty very much lacks to political capital and Senate support to pass any such law(s) and Gloria has indeed told the mc he is not committed to it. While we can read that cynically as “not in the near future” instead of him being opposed on moral or ethical grounds as Maia might be. Nevertheless with the election being not that far away the major risks here would be either Maxwell winning the next elections and/or the League and mc indeed getting unpopular enough that even somebody like Stratton could pass something.
I’m gonna assume that it might have something to do with that bill that he has been trying to get passed in Congress that Ignis and the others was talking about a bit.
Well, Gloria seemingly promised the MC that he wouldn’t accept such a bill, and the President does have veto powers until a bill has 2/3rds of Congress behind it.
Can the League grow to be so detested that the whole of the legislature will turn on them?
Well that’s entirely up to you and might have something to do with the “antileague” stat. Though I’m interested to see if you make that particular event conditional on player decisions or not.
Alternatively, the League might make enough of the Cabinet want to get the bill passed over Gloria’s veto that they’ll boot him.
They are but looking at just King (since BQ is out of commission) I would say a fight with him is not out of the realm of possibility because from the looks of it he will go to any measure to bring back his beloved…even if it can be something…wrong and if The League has to stop him then I can see a fight ensuing which ends badly…for us.
They are obviously involved. Most likely rest of the islands tried to raise a stink over the upjumped sellswords take over and got wiped in retaliation, at least that’s my theory of it.
Maybe they just know not to do something stupid so close to the tomb, because they weren’t even wearing weapons, it is quite possible they just know that King might consider incidents close to the mountain…offensive and do not want to take a risk.
Let me guess, Seeker destroys a few…dozen city blocks to save Ignis in the full view of camera’s?
The Aegean Islands in this time period were under direct control of the Byzantine Empire.
If a rebellion against a peace treaty kicked off in the islands, we’d probably know about it, just from writings of the era.
That wouldn’t get people to dislike the League. It’s a full blown battle, if Seeker is going all out to ‘keep the group alive’, then that’s not an indictment on him.
You need to look in a different direction. One of responsibilities.
On an off-hand note…is there a soundtrack playlist for A Tale of Heroes? Any music you think particularly goes with the characters? I usually start making playlists for stories, basically little home-compiled soundtracks to accompany them after I’ve spent enough time with it. Helps with the visualization.
For my part, whenever I read the lore about the Broken King, or at least the Broken Cult, for some reason Ryomen Sukuna’s theme plays in my head. It’s kind of silly, because Sukuna and the Broken King are nothing alike, but for some reason the music works. It kind of captures the unfathomable age and ambiguity of the character, as well as the sort of eerie and sinister valence surrounding him.
You need to look in a different direction. One of responsibilities.
Would the issue be then of who actually will pay for the damages caused? Because from what I’ve understood so far is that the league though they answer in some part to the congressional body of the U.S. they are mostly an autonomous organization. As such I imagine it would be difficult to decide who gets to foot the bill for things getting out of hand to the point that a whole portion of a city gets destroyed. I would certainly imagine the Government would strictly refuse and play the angle of “Well we only asked you to attend and guard the G7 summit, not to full blow destroy a large portion of the place it was held at. But if you want us to help foot the bill then you’re gonna have to become more subservient to the will of the government.”
