True not everyone wants powers especially in a world like this. It gets a lot of unwanted attention especially from Stratton being a dick about it. Some people are not meant to be heroes but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t do something.
Summary
Yay, Aki slow dance.
It’s “brooks no argument”, as in allows. Broker means arranging a deal.
““Disregarding Maxnews’ latest attempt to stay relevant,”” is still and forever chef’s kiss, which, because we live in the darkest timeline, does not have its own emoticon.
Mars uses two different pronouns for the controller here.
I just wanna say I love this “internal monologue interrupted by outside words” sequence.
Yay, Aki improptu date.
OMG, I’D COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN ABOUT GOTH QUEEN AKI!
This needs to be a thing that we see in the game.
I’d also forgotten the unveiled contempt Nova displays for Dark Star each and every time he’s brought up, and every time I remember he gains several awesome points.
EDIT: OMFG! Please tell me that “terrifying plan” part is new in the rewrite, and that I’m not so stupid that even with such an obvious hint I’m only NOW realising Gloria is using the G7 as BAIT!
Well now, I don’t know what could have possibly given you the idea that Gloria would come up with a plan like this.
An attack on the most important heads of state of the planet being foiled? One where he gets to play a personal hand?
One that earns him, specifically, an incredible amount of glory, and presents the chance to “crush the Cult with one single hit”?
Is he smart enough to do that? ![]()
Edit: Sorry to say though, the line has been there from the beginning. ![]()
Sorry for doubleposting again, but I finally posted that little hotfix I mentioned earlier today. I fixed all of the typos and such, and added an option for the MC to determine what their relationship with Lat was like.
If there’s anything else that you guys note or think should be addressed, please let me know!
YEAH IT IS BACK BABY, IT IS BEEN A LONG TIME I SEE NEW UPDATE.
Sonuvabiiiiiiii-
Man, I BETTER be able to throw Gloria to the wolves over this. Also Mars is in on it, so he can officially go fuck himself from now on. Bodyguarding Stratton was bad enough, but now he’s willingly endangering innocent civilains.
The reveal of this is gonna a sort of a lite-Civil War event, isn’t it? Each member of the team is gonna take sides on whether Gloria did the right thing or not, aren’t they?
I KNEW Gloria was giving me Ozymandia vibes, the little shit.
I have shamed myself and my family. There’s only one way to redeem myself and my name. I must perform the ancient Japanese rite of (dramatic pause) IKEBANA!
EDIT: Honestly, at this point I’m beginning to suspect that while Gloria isn’t quite working with the cult (because that’d mean he was intending to play second fiddle to the King), he does have contacts in it. It’d go a great length to explain why he’d hitch his wagon to Stratton’s for the vice-presidency, which would be the meh’est career-building move ever unless he knew Stratton was going to be legally unfit for duty.
Well I did think that was a valid reaction to Ignis’ ultimatum and, at least in my mc’s case, it is also partly annoyance at having his life goals and plans upset that way as quite unlike his roommate Lat my mc never even fantasized about being a superhero and to go from that to not only having to be a superhero but a frontline fighter, instead of more of a support character…well, yeah, that does impact my mc quite a bit. ![]()
He does grow out of most of it by chapter 4, but I mean give the poor kid some time to adjust. ![]()
So during the training scene with Seeker, the MC hurts their hand and it was quickly heal by Seeker with some technique.
But it made me wonder, does the MC or anyone in the league had a healing factor, not like Wolverine or Deadpool level, but fast enough to consider superhuman.
Since the next the next chapter is battle focus and our MC can get zenkai boost, I was thinking about abusing our body for some extra power. ![]()
Is he, though? I never said that.
Plenty of ways for a G7 meeting to go, after all.
As to how the League will react… you’ll see, eventually. There’s going to be quite a few takes on the matter, and some of them may surprise you!
Not as far as you (the MC) knows.
It definitely was, but Ignis’ ultimatum is scaled back a fair bit now, so she isn’t being quite as harsh about it as she used to be. She’s more throwing you a hail mary than conscripting you into the force, I think. ![]()
He is. I mean, he’s the one that says “terrifying plan”.
Summary
Should be a comma, not a period, after “unison”.
Bold of Gloria to assume that I stand behind him.
Also, if he snaps his fingers at me again I’d very much like the option of breaking them, kkthxbai.
Oh, there’s bits of Chapter 5 up! Half of a slug fest.
This just the byline of a buzzfeed list, you’re better than this! ![]()
“Hear the opinion of your 7 companions, #5 will shock you!”
The WiP so far is great and I can’t wait for more. By the by, is Stratton inspired by any former presidential oranges?
He does, but that doesn’t mean he thinks an attack is coming. Gloria was, after all, planning to propose something to the G7.
And besides, there are plenty of ways to take it, aren’t there? “We want to cow the Cult by showing the leaders of the world are united”, “We will prove we are untouchable by having the most important people in the planet meet somewhere”, and “We’ll fight a battle that is risking all our lives” are all possible interpretations that Mars could have. ![]()
A little bit, though he isn’t exactly meant to be an expy. The Trump comparison is meant more in the sense that he’s bombastic and an ‘outsider’ to politics.
Their policies do align at least a little though. Giving more leeway to corpos, an isolationist streak, and etc.
There were also other reasons I didn’t think Stratton and Trump could be perfectly compared, but, uh, seeing what the recent news about one of those have been, I’m not so sure anymore…
And thank you for the compliments! I’m glad you enjoy the story.
I’m not sure I’d qualify the first two plans as “terrifying”, though. ![]()
It depends on how you look at it, I suppose. It doesn’t seem that big a deal to us, but Mars is looking at it from a cynical perspective.
Even if nothing happened, Gloria’s still risking several of his key allies just to send a message, and doing so without exactly telling them.
After four years of… you know, Mars may be a little on edge when considering the reactions these people could have. ![]()
Okay I’ve re-played through the story again up & maybe it’s just me but the scene we’re we go from having breakfast to going to go train feels a bit jarring. We have breakfast then we’re introduced to the President who I absolutely want to throw under bus along with Mars, then we get taken to the training room & asked if we know how to fight. No choice to be excited about getting to train or get talking into or dragged into training. Again this could just be me & it’s a very minor detail that some players might find jarring but others might not care about it. I don’t want to add more extra work to u just point it out
Join the club. It doesn’t get better. Somehow, it gets worse.
I just noticed something that may need to be addressed at some point concerning Lat’s superhero name. It seems like at this time in the story, she’s not at all concerned with getting a new one anytime soon and everyone seems fairly okay with calling her Lat until then. Just one problem, what about the college students and professors that probably would had heard MC calling her Lat and possibly connecting the dots there?
Something I do enjoy is reading people’s reaction to a competent American President interacting with the Empire and how annoyed it makes them.

To be honest, the ‘Gloria feels like a competent President’ comment from actual American citizens is probably the best compliment I could get regarding his character. I was a bit worried he’d come off as too much of a go-getter or feel like a parody of the US.
Gloria is someone who understands deeply that he is the acting President of the United States. It’s not a rhetorical exercise to the competent ones that they are given immense power and privilege sitting atop the largest economy in the world, the foundation of institutions designed to knit the West under our banner, and have the most powerful heroes in the known world as an official representation of American might.
But, he’s not a despot or authoritarian. He understands that he’s a Chief Executive and that part of that job requires him to ensure the ship runs smoothly. He knows the Big Three and the others already- it’s his job to try to figure you out and judge your worth.
