The canon age, after An Unexpectedly Green Journey, is the Age of the Green Emperors- others may call it The Orc Age or the The Green Age. Some anti-orcists may frown on naming an ‘age’ after orcs and place it at the end of the longer ‘Age of Decline,’ referring to human civilization and the increasing decadence of Grandardgard.

After the fall of the Green Empire, we enter the ‘Age of the New Accord.’ Orcs may call this the Age of Krog’s Gift when referring to their own nation. This is because the ‘New Accord’ reminds them of their defeat at the hands of the rest of Behatland when they came together in an alliance.

In A Shriek of Ash and Fire, we are well into an industrial age, though officially still in the Age of the New Accord. Future historians may declare that this new ‘industrial age’, characterised by technology, industry, the collapse of old religion and the exploration of Zthullu, warrants a new name. As your MC is finding out, the New Accord is all but broken. What we might call this next age… is still to be decided. Needless to say, your MC’s actions will have a great bearing on this.

Cheers for playing Green, even if just the baby bits. A Shriek of Ash and Fire is, tonally, very different, though still filled with choice and adventure. I appreciate your supportive words and for giving another game of mine a chance.

One thing I have been sure of with A Shriek of Ash and Fire is that you, in no way, have to play Green first. Green players will appreciate some references and points of lore that others may miss, but none of this is required to understand the events taking place.

I view Green as the first game in an ‘arc,’ rather than a sequel or a single continuous story, as I want to write different adventures at different points in the world’s history.

A Shriek of Ash and Fire will have 2 books, parts 1 and 2. Together, they are the second part of the Krog Pile Arc- just a little dream of mine.

Curious, so what would be considered the cannon ending?

Cause my character won the Cyclopes war and ascended to godhood.

Some sort of green empire does eventually happen, so, in theory, that could basically be any ending except for any of the dark ones

Thanks @Sujan_Dhakal - this is right.

Apart from the Dark Powers Ending and the Shaman Ending- all other paths lead to the Green Empire, this is canon. Whether it is you, your adopted pup or another orc entirely that arose after your death.

History is very imprecise, and orcs were never much good at keeping records. The memory of the Green Empire is very twisted by legend and hearsay- very inaccurate. But that ‘one orc untied the tribes and created an empire which stood for over 4 centuries’ is a thing.

For the Shaman City path (some events here, like the creation of new rivers and new minor deities for orcs and goblins, does happen within the Green Empire- but of course this is not your orc shaman as he is long gone) and the Dark Power path, we can imagine an ethereal rift creating a split in the timelines due to the massive divine forces brought to bear upon the world of Krog Pile.

Apart from this, I am a full supporter of player head canon.

Meaning that either the Chieftain Ending or the Old Age Ending (Maker of Emperors MC) leads to the Second Rise of the Orcs where A Shriek of Ash and Fire takes place several years after this?

Dont forget Boars and Cyclopses, I know that

Been a bit and im sure if im wrong i will be corrected lol but its more than just several years more like several centuries if not thousand or more.

Haha! Yes, 100%, we have the Boar and Cyclopes gods too- the boar one is definitely canon, the cyclopes one doesn’t really fit the Green Emperor path- remember the shaman city path allowed you to tame the cyclopes, while the Emperor just mashed them all into pieces!

@Valixon
No correction is needed, mate. Yes, Green Journey and Ash and Fire are separated by many centuries- more than a thousand years, as you said. Roughly 1200.

UPDATE 9 (approx 58K, 808k+ total- 14th March 2025)

Hi, loyal supporters of the Ancient Regime,

I present the Royalists in the Revolution update for you, more than 50K of new content bringing the total to 808K.

Here, we’ll return to the Despair’s Demise and put right what went wrong.

-Be greeted by the, really not quite right in the head, Evagrey twins, including a special scene for all your minions.

-Gather with Commodore Evagrey to receive your orders and get a promotion, perhaps 2.

-Negotiate peace with the Union of Enginae Mate rebels (and swabs too) to put an end to the fighting.

-Fight the last Basilisk holdout, meeting a change Avalina and, potentially, Father Roach.

-Deal with the recruitment from a bested Fort Ard to bolster the reduced crew of the Despair’s Demise.

-Receive a great revelation at the end of it all, before the crawler starts its turbines and engines to journey ever deeper into the ash.

Your arrival has given the Royalists the edge. But the crawler is badly damaged. Here, you will become more than a mere street rat from Graandardgard. Short-staffed and all, the crawler needs all capable hands to put to bed the ravages of revolution.

Please report any typos and bugs! I hope you enjoy it!

Glory to the King, Ardland and the Successor!

Up next, in about a month on the HG Forum, is the Rebels and the Revolution update!!!

Patreon members on the Korg Tier already have access to the revolting masses. Currently, I am working on expanding the New Yeirshee Pirate Fleet Path.

HG Forum link can be found in the very first post.

… I see why you want to make this a duology

Yes, I think I made the right choice. First, I was against this and wanted to have it all in one book/game, but things have expanded. Instead of one unmanageable game, it will be two large books. Once I accepted this, I was able to relax (just a little bit :)) as I could see the project’s finish line.

After I hit 500k, it seemed the ending was getting further and further away. This could have become very disheartening, so I think it is a wise choice.

Question: Will there be cheating like the first game?

Let him decide. This is not like An Unexpectedly Green Journey, this one is some sort of semi-linear story.

Hi @Mahalalel and @Patrick_Cody02

I’ve thought about it. I’m not sure if it would work well for this game. I now have skills as well as numerical stats, allowing the player more ways to pass checks. It will always be better to specialise, but skills allow a character to pass checks not in their usual wheelhouse. I think this makes the game much easier and less frustrating.

Also, Ash and Fire is far more ‘scripted’- as in your stats are manipulated behind the scenes to keep the story on track. One path even resets your stats and replaces all your stats with new ones. This is a concession to my ability (inability?) to control a game with many interwoven paths, as opposed to separate paths.

I’m not saying it won’t happen. If many players think it would be a benefit, I’ll rethink it.

I will play the demo and get back to you.

Will we be able to build the third Orc Empire and defeat all these kingdoms?

3 Likes

Probably not, a big plot development that seems to be happening is that things are changing and old established orders are falling apart, so something on that scale just doesn’t seem possible. Either you ride the winds of change or try to maintain the established order

@Michael_Porter

Hi Michael, thanks for giving my game a go. Hope you enjoy it- nice to see you posting after 2 years too. I’m a relative newcomer, made my very first post just under 2 years ago when I first posted Green Journey.

@Mahalalel and @Sujan_Dhakal

Hi, wasteland warriors,

Yes, times have changed. It is not the time of great empires. The old order is collapsing. But, in the second and last book, depending on the choice you make in this book, there will be a path giving orcs their third chance at glory in some shape or form- Perhaps future generation may reflect on the coming events and see the orcs actually on the side of the ‘good guys’ for once. Though the orcs wouldn’t give two runtlings’ backsides about this.

Orcs remain, as individuals even if not in terms of armies, the hardest warriors out there.
