A SHRIEK OF ASH AND FIRE 1(WIP) [approx 150K UPDATE, 1.14 Million TOTAL-22nd June 2025] (1.22 Million on Patreon)

Just think of the blade from the Ashsnap like Hidden Blades from Assassins Creed, it is useful for stealth kills. You just need to give the Ashsnap Blade a different purpose.

I can see it might have a use, though have not yet utilised it. I may rethink a few situations once I have the first Book 1 complete- at least the pre-editing draft, before I send it to Hosted Games.

A final ‘bells and whistle’ pass can be a good thing

So, how to do the basilisk route?

Thank you for inadvertently brightening my day during a period or sadness. I just saw the title but read it as “A Shrek of Ash and Fire” and it made me smile so once again thank you

@Tyrant_Evil

Hi mate, I commend you for seeking to correct all the errors of the past. Follow the spirals…

Off the top of my head, there are 2 main ways into the Basilisk Path. It not open to every type of character.

You must be a high ingenuity character and become a gadgetician. On the train have Avalina assign you the engine mate job and do not escape. Then Join Lincon’s band, rather than Rumble’s when you arrive on the Crawler.

OR
If, have a high charm build, become a Dispatch in the crawler, defy the Evagrey twins and be thrown in prison. Here, Avalina will save you and indoctrinate you.

Afterwards…

Do not save Father Roach.

It helps to push the Basilisk agenda whenever you have the option, especially with your Roachpedes.

When sent out into the wastes to confront the small Cold Pact fleet, you should have been told to kill Coireal. Make sure you do.

In this way, you pave the path of the Certain Future.

@Nocturnal_Stillness

Good to see you here!

Haha, yes, I think Shrek has a orcish vibe and this gifts Orc Sight to those who connect me with orcs. Everywhere, there must be orcs!

Sometimes, when I write the title, I too type Shrek instead of Shriek!

There is a third way

Be a Ruffknuckle to be an Ash Marine on the crawler, pick “I would never speak against King Adri II”, then speak with Thrayton and say “Down with the King.”. Then accept the deal with Avalina, the alternative ain’t pretty.

And do the same with Father Roach and Coireal.

I only found this third way to join the basilisk, about a month ago.

Great work, mate!

I have to code dive to follow a lot of threads at this point, since not everything is fresh in my mind. I’m glad I intentionally included a third way. I love the idea of encouraging replayability but having a path be too obscure is counter-productive. I know you probably know the routes better than me now! It is heartening to see you can still find something new!

Hmm… I wonder. The Abhidhar of Zhutullu is a Powerful Snake Mage, in this case, it is the MC. On the other path, the Agent of Basilisk is a Emotionless Iron Golem Cyborg, it is the MC as well, something gives me an idea. If the two paths are compatible, would the Abhidhar of Zhutullu be a useful asset for the Basilisk, and let the MC join them, or he/she would become a powerful threat to the Basilisk and become their enemy? I also have another possiblity, would the Abhidhar of Zhutullu become the Basilisk itself? (I don’t know the lore of the Bailisk and it’s cult)

Hi mate.

The Basilisk Path strips you of magic- you wouldn’t be able to be the Abhidhar and a Basilisk cultist. Although you, as an agent of the Baslisk, can intimidate the etherneers on the crawler to work on your behalf, the magic prevents them from being properly corrected. Also, the Basilisk is a collective of cultists as well as the name given to the centralised cog array in Grandardgard. You are not the Basilisk, but of the Basilisk. For now…

I think, with the way it is coded, only mage-types can become the Abhidhar. Mage types, I think, cannot join the Basilisk.

I’ll let you into a little, not so secret, secret. The default Abhidhar of Zthullu is not you but someone you know well… They might claim the title instead of you, depending on certain things.

OK, there is always a lot of potential for the MC, from either the Heroes or the Villains. There are always opportunities for the MC to rise. As for the Default Abhidar, there are people who know the MC well. There is Sera, there is Vin, there is Father Roach, and there is Shiv… I think it is one of them… but I don’t want to give out spoilers

Also, as for the Yonders (Orcs) mentioned in the game, weren’t they part of the other MC’s or his Orc Child’s (An Unexpectedly Green Journey) Journey from either the Chieftain Path or the Old Age Path (Maker of Emperors Ending). If so, then there might be potential for this MC to reignite the fires of history from the Yonders back to when they once were, maybe not in this book, but maybe in the second book.

We are getting into unreleased lore here so things might change.

The Yonders are humans raising their ancestors to work as undead thralls- though the most legendary ancestors can become greater undead. The orcs in Yonder are undead husks- many are orcs captured by Brimstone’s Goad (next to Krog’s Gift), given to Yonderfolde to create undead soldiers to join the Cold Pact armies. Many of the earlier orcs in Yonderfolde were from the former imperial province of Greenburg, although many of these orcs also settled in more southerly, tolerant lands or joined the orcs of Krog’s Gift.

I plan for the MC, if they join the Cold Pact, to have a path serving these nations, including Yonderfolde. This will be a more ‘evil’ route, although everything is either darker or lighter shades of grey.

Yes, the MC will never be a nobody- they are destined to have a profound effect on the world, to a greater or lesser extent. In Book 2, all paths will lead us back to Behatland in some form or another. Book 1 focuses more on the revolution and the ‘awakening’ of our MC. They start as a young, carefree tearaway and become hardened through what they encounter, perhaps burdened with responsibilities, power or destiny. Book 2 will see them reach the apex of their arc, much changed, bearing many losses and scars.

As much as I want to give good ideas here, my ideas only thrived in your current released game, An Unexpectely Green Journey, because that game has a lot of storymaking and gaming potential

Here, good ideas are harder to come up because of the complexity and complicated story lore

Yes, Green Journey, as a sandbox, lent itself well to being an ‘idea sink’. Also, the world had less lore then- indeed, the lore was being created in that first game. Ash and Fire is not a sandbox, and the world has been built upon established or semi-established lore. I have to be more consistent with events here, to serve a wider narrative, while giving the MC a good deal of choice within that narrative.

I have found that having a wider narrative, while trying to incorporate distinct paths and meaningful choices, has resulted in a much longer game, 2 Books worth! Creating a sandbox has its own challenges, but it is even more difficult to keep track of separate paths within a wider narrative. I think this is because Green allowed me to compartmentalise sections of the game, creating almost mini-adventures or mini-games like the Adventurer Guild Path, Gladiator Path, and Raider Boss battles.

Yo bro can i be a king in this game? And if yes what path should i take in order to be the king, Rebel or Royalist.

Im also a bit disappointed bcs there is no half orc race in this game, i think halforc is the best race for a warrior / advanturer

It’s biologically impossible, orcs are just violent sentient lettuces, they don’t have reproductive organs as far as I’m aware.

Yeah bro right, btw can you answer my previous question pls

Hi mate, thanks for taking a look at my game.

Orcs here are grown like plants- you cannot get a half-orc in this world. (Thanks @Nevantyr !)

If you’d like to be a full-on orc and rise to the level of King, Emperor or a God, you might like my previous game, out on all Hosted Games Platforms: An Unexpectedly Green Journey There is a decent sized free demo to get a feel for the game, to see if it is right for you.

This story will span over two books. In Book 1, you cannot become a King. Remember, this is also a Work In Progress.

But, you can become the Chancellor of the Despair’s Demise (the highest office of its new republic) by taking the Rebel Route. Everyone can become a rebel- make choices that do not promote the monarchy and support the cause of the workers. To get you started, build a sneaky type, a shadelurk, join the grease swabs and try to please Gibleti, or make a fighter type, ruffknuckle, join the ash marines and please Roughshackle, or make a tinkering type (gadgetician), join the engine mates and also support Rumble. These will start you on a path that favours rebels.

Do not escape the train taking you into Zthullu.

Hope this helps.

Yoooo thanks man for answering my question, but the answer grow me more question lol :v

  1. What is the race of shiv, i thought he is half orc or some kind like that
  2. So if i support the monarchy, what’s the highest rank / position i can get
  3. And actually i’ve played your previous game, so thats why i want the orc race here bruh : (

Shiv is a big human- some whisper that there is ogre in his blood, although he is just a big human git. Unless something changes…

If you support the monarchy, at present, you can rise to become the Sheriff of the Commons on the crawler. I can’t say too much for spoilers. In Book 2, this will not be the limit- perhaps not even in Book 1 as I still have to finish and certain plot points might entail adjustments.

Great to hear you’re part of the horde mate! Don’t be too disheartened- in Book 2 of Shriek and Fire (the conclusions of this story- I do not want to span it over more than 2 books) we can return to Krog’s Rock and mingle with modern days orcs, perhaps getting them onside and giving them another chance for glory!

EDIT: In a potential third game, the MC may well be a Scorned Elf in a sort-of Legend of Galactic Heroes But Different sci-fi-fantasy book- Working Title ‘Saga of the Void Armadas’ - But this only exists in dreams right now.
