A request for the readers of choicescript games

I can see both sides. As a reader, I try to remember that the author put in a lot of hours and hard work, and that even a simple “I liked the game” is really meaningful. As an author, I try to remember that readers’ time is valuable, and they have many games to choose from, and they don’t owe me anything, and I should be respectful of their choices.

There isn’t really two sides to this request. This wasn’t me demanding readers give feedback it wasn’t me saying readers owe authors anything.

It is merely a request for readers who enjoy the story to leave a comment or a like. So newer authors get that little push they need to continue.

And “am I doing this right? Does this make sense? Is my writing style okay?” are all perfectly valid questions for someone to want an answer to, where it is other people’s opinions that actually matter.

I would have stopped writing so many times if it wasn’t for little things like that. I don’t actually need to write for being able to quietly enjoy my own story in my head, after all.

Being worried about things that are beyond our control, such as: are people enjoying my game or will the game I like be updated?

Worries like this do more harm than good.

In the end, we should only worry about one thing: authors only care about telling the story they want to tell. You like to write, don’t you? So write.

If someone wanted to right just for themselves, they wouldn’t publish it in the first place. We who are seeking to publish want our story read, shared, and improved. We want to improve as writers.
