one small note, despite only showing interest in the nurse (having dinner with her etc) the game seems to think i am romancing the widow.

If you mean getting a letter from her, then it also happens if you visited her seeking help to secure the supplies:
*if (met_libby and (libby_rom >= 1)) or ((met_libby and met_whitman) and (supplies_secured))
*set letter_arrived true
It doesn’t mean you have romance active, this is determined by the _rom flags.
On this note, @RedizE there’s a small bug/oddity in this section: the game has some bits which are gated with _rom >= 2 checks. But at this point in the story the romance variables can have, at most, the value of 1. So these text variants are basically wasted, since the player/MC never gets to see them. You also can’t stop a romance using relevant option, because the >= 2 check is never passed and so the variable value never gets decreased.

@RedizE while there might be some minor things here and there i havent encountered anything game breaking yet in my playthroughs. Which is allways a plus and you most defintly caught the feel of those later battles that ive been throughly engrossed and on that note I was curious cause hadn’t done a full testing of choices yet. Is it possible for us to turn that route at the reams station so that the Corps isn’t fully humiliated as a whole? Or is it a thing where are regiment can shine the brighter but not nesscarily turn the whole thing?

@RedizE This game you’re making its amazing. But i’m leaving a suggestion, regarding the RO’s, this here could be a good opportunity to develop and add more depth to them. The MC got 30 day period, so he probably could travel to DC and spend some time with his romantic interest. Like why waste such opportunity? He doesn’t know if gonna be another one.

Do we have to command infantry or do we get a choice between artillery and cavalry?

@Bloodmoonrising You command infantry but are offered opportunities at certain moments to try and integrate artillery (and cavalry, to a lesser extent) within your command structure/ work with them in tandem. You can also opt not to, but it’s kinda neat and it works particularly well at one of the battles earlier on in the story.

I’ll say for what it’s worth that this is probably my favourite WiP on the forum currently. I know that this isn’t precisely very detailed praise, but I want you to know that I think you’re doing some very solid work. That all being said, I do have a suggestion or two, nothing major, just focused on the ROs - specifically Elizabeth because that’s the only romance I ever gun for, but I presume it can apply to the other ROs as well.
I saw someone just a few messages above mention the possibility to use that 30 day leave to visit your RO and I think it’s a good idea to consider integrating as a few scenes together could more or less bind what’s a relatively unseen character more to the story. I understand of course why the ROs don’t appear more often, because it’s war and you’re in hostile country, like so many men who actually fought and died in the civil war. That being so, I don’t think the option to see the RO just a little more would cheapen the experience in anyways and the excuse for it is a solid and practical one.
I also think perhaps that having the option to read the actual text of the letters sent to you by the RO (instead of just the feeling of the letters) could be a good addition to add more depth to a character that you cannot have on-screen all too often.
These are just suggestions, do with them what you will, but I thought it worth considering if nothing else.

The crater is a reference to the Fort Pillow as far as I’m aware, an infamous massacre took place there.

Most of the casualties are from the Shock infantry attacks from my experience, you can save a lot of men just keeping to defense and volleys but it is not as glorious as giving them the cold steel

No, it’s the real actual Battle of the Crater and the real actual massacre of the USCT carried out by both Confederates and Union soldiers who though turning on their black comrades might win them mercy.

As apple has mentioned thr massacre of thr black troops was a crater issue and seperate from the fort pillow massacre which was in a entirely different state and situation.

as far as im aware no, ive done all 3 options and both lead to the same result as far as im aware. you can just pick depending on what type of personality your officer is, first if you care about men more, second if you are severity high or duty-bound officer, and third if you are a hot-blooded one like walter.
in any case, we face a dozen mine run offensives anyway in the overland campaign and thats where most of your casualties go (especially bloody angle, cold harbor, and the crater, those are where the casualties pile up)

For some reason, it says I had West Point Academy training when my character is Regular Army upbringing. Is this meant to be?

just curious, Does the background affect the speed of promotion. Like west pointer vs Regular Army?. because i played with Regular Army background and finished the update still with the rank of major.

Nah farnss I can tell we all end up as major no matter are background. The bigger question i have though is when things get reshuffled in the army will be weather or not we are just colonel or will it be possible to lead a brigade based off of everything we’ve done.
