A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED August 7th | Book One Released!

At most the mc once had, with an emphasis on that past-tense there, exceptional talent for Arcana. That was then fucked up by Thaubal and the parasites. A bit like giving somebody born with the talent and potential to be the greatest mathematician ever a brain injury as a kid. Poof goes that talent potential, which is the closest sort of real world analogy I can think of for the mc.

As far as actual statements in the story go the MC is exceptional even without Arcana like for example during the trial where we are fighting Leon and apparently set a new record (iirc) and that was a fight where you are more or less set up to fail miserably. So I suspect there is more to this power/talent than “just Arcana”

Yeah, if I remember correctly Yu even comment it on my mc

How’d you get this bit of dialogue?

I forget the exact location in game but it’s been apart of every current playthrough I’ve done so you should be able to come across it by natural play.

The mc’s magical potential, without arcana, was said by the author, not one my numbers, to be an 8 out of 10. That implies there certainly must be some people who are a 9 or 10 out of 10 on the magic scale too.

In general a grade of 8 out of 10 implies something to be good, but not necessarily great. So the mc is a good mage, at least potentially, but do they have the power to be great (aside from flattery by some other characters)?

What we do not know is how wide the gap between 8 and 9 or 8 and 10 is. Does the magic scale go exponentially or more incrementally?

When I choose to run away and got captured, Thalia assign a mission to us and I choose the option to glare daggers at them for the ridiculousness of the situation

No, 8 out of 10 is pretty great, it’s just not peak ability. The MC repeatedly performs feats of magic that leave others flabbergasted without resorting to arcana, like getting all the kids out at the start, going 13 minutes and change against a magic-cutting sword (more than anyone else, ever), saving most of the people at Silcur village and collapsing from exhaustion only AFTER Ilya* (an extremely powerful theurge), and repeatedly Magesonging a rapidly-moving target.

EDIT:

If it’s an “8 out of 10” then it should be linear, i.e., a 10 is 25% more powerful than the MC. We can also presume that the higher you go in the power scale, the rarer the mages are, meaning there’s plenty of hedge mages and a handful of archmages. So the MC is on the top 20% of possible power, but should be in the, say, top 5% of most powerful mages currently, or possibly an even smaller percentage.

*In fact, now that I come to remember, the MC only collapses BECAUSE they power up Ilya after she passes out

The line when we kiss Ilya and have the charming response, and I remember it said, “That night, she shows you in true Jovian fashion, uh, something” so I’m assuming we smashed, but it didn’t really hint at that for the reserved response, so does that mean no smashing for reserved guys?

Maybe reserved guys just don’t feel the need to comment on having smashed.

No smash on both. Our mage is still a virgin.

After rereading your wonderful WIP, I can conclude, that Falco’s such a big softie. Teasing F had me smirking hard. On second note, it was exciting to traverse around in Yotai, especially during festival season, getting to learn about Y more! The material of the kugen’s residence reminds me of a glass bridge. You did a splendid job in fleshing out Yotai as a place and as a culture. The Yotai terms, names, and the wording details based on East Asia from what I see really helps immerse what I imagine. I am also fawning over the magical systems implemented, it really blows my mind.

I really want to give Saine a hug but I can’t :sob:

Stay safe!

The powder choice doesn’t go away even after I choose it, think that’s an error. The mention of food has got me craving ramen.

The eggnado scene confirms that F is just a polymorphed hamster, really. Right now, they’re also one the only two characters that are a positive to your mental health.

Any more what?

Wait, you mean there aren’t any more?

Small pronoun error in the fight with the twins (eli should be a woman)

Is this the same wip where mc is supposed to be reborn at the end of first game?

Yep

Technically at the start of the second, but yes. Unless there’s more games like that.
