A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED August 7th | Book One Released!

Unable to recreate this error currently! I’ll have a deeper look into it at the next opportunity.

Ah, I should clarify that the ‘sinner’s death’ was attributed to the Church’s fault, as in they gave a hero a sinner’s death. Don’t know if that’s of much comfort to anyone, but they at least don’t pretend to be not complicit?

Good to hear it! It’s a prelude to the ‘smash-the-statue!’ sentiment that veterans of AMR will recall very easily.

Nor do I–not for sure, anyhow. I’ve begun the submission process, though, and I suppose the talk will come up sooner rather than later! Personally, I’d rather Book I be up on dashingdon until the day it hits the market.

Very true, and, in the interest of transparency, very likely to be subject to procrastination on my part. Finding all the variables and distilling them into a few introductory scenes ought be one of the labors of Hercules, as far as I’m concerned.

And this is my achilles’ heel, unfortunately. My beta testers are helping me with that, although reports on this thread also help a tremendous deal.

It does say during the Arcadian division segment that you’ll be conscripted to Nightsaber’s top tier missions occasionally, on account of being one of its only arcanists! Very selfish of them, but very convenient for me in pushing the plot along, ehe.

To be quite honest with you, I expect that plenty of MC’s attitudes since that confrontation with Sister may have changed due to the absolute infodump that is Arcadia, so I no longer hold that variable as a reliable tracker of MC’s current feelings. This is doubly true given that more explicit personality markers (i.e. the ones tracked on the stats screen) can be annulled with the press of a button.

That being said, a rewording is certainly feasible. If nothing else, it keeps the tone inquisitive, which is in line with the rest of the options. Changed now!

It was hard for me to write! Like, insanely, stare-at-the-monitor-for-two-hours-before-writing difficult. Saine deserves a kinder author, ahaha.

This should be fixed as far as I can remember. Will double check after posting!

The chance is not zero, no. However, any thespian knows the words that come next: but at what cost?

Thank you for the feedback, everyone!

For reference, in case it helps, mine was “Phoenix”, because how could it not be?

It was clear enough for me that this was the case. It just pisses me off that they go “oh WE were the ones who did something bad, but its YOUR soul that’s in peril and it’s OUR prayers that are gonna fix that, ain’t we great?”. Every time I hear anything about the Jovian Church it just makes me want to burn their Vatican equivalent to the ground with the entire hierarchy inside, it’s really quite impressive.

There’s a STATUE?! These goddamned mofos made me a st-! I hope they didn’t put in any central location, because if they did traffic is going to be hell on account of what I’m going to do to that thing requiring terms like “blast radius” to accurately describe. Is there a way to make Banecircle permanent so I can Chernobyl the area?

You’re going to have to do this anyway, because I’m pretty sure there’s no way CoG is going to let you submit a Book 2 that has an imported save game from Book 1 as a requirement instead of an option.

First option can only be picked once, second can be picked indefinitely (and it gives you the text for the first option). Just tested.

Ok, first, I’m going to ask you to take a deep slow breath to calm down. :slightly_smiling_face: You sound like you’re about to have a social anxiety-induce panic attack, and we don’t want that, so just take a few good calming breaths. :slightly_smiling_face: All calmer, now? If not, breathe in a few more times. When you’re all good, read on. :slightly_smiling_face:

You didn’t sound rude. I’m pretty sure @Parivir meant judgment as in “evaluate and critique” (critique, not criticise), not in the sense of a judge hammering the gavel and going “you’re guilty, and I sentence you to two wedgies and four wet willies.”

I knew the breakdown of my feedback about the singled-out choice might be awkwardly worded.

‘In the same scene’ to mean; from the moment MC wakes up to Thalia staring them in the face, MC can choose options like “get away from me!”, and “just so we’re clear, I don’t trust you.” to set the tone. That said, just using something like ‘Why is my bloodline important?’ allows people to insert their own tone on the question.

Why is this important? :unamused:
Why is this important?
Why is this important? :face_with_monocle:

Kinda like that. Interest, or disinterest can be self-applied when a sentence is suitably neutral.

Question, did Leon made a statue for us, since he already made a holiday to honor us why not add a statue of us on the side, my self-centered mc would love that, tho my charming personality would probably complain if there’s a lack on detail

I wasn’t judging, I’m so sorry if it sounded like it. I have autism so I don’t always realize when things I say sound rude. I’m so sorry about that.

With any luck and considering the rather long release pipeline at the moment, you can take it down together with book 2 in one fell swoop after you submit book 2 too.

Not the most immersive thing, but for the beta maybe just go with a menu to set all the variables/choices directly, would lead to the most comprehensive testing result, at the price of having to set a lot of options manually each time a beta update breaks the saves on dashingdon.
Assuming you are not going to be allowed to keep book 1 up until either the end of the book 2 beta or the release of book 1, whichever comes first.

But JBento is sadly not wrong, eventually you’re going to have to make a slicker version for new players starting in book 2 too. However it may be worthwhile to postpone that to one of the last moments to cut down on continually having to update and debug it.

@parivir

By the way, on the topic of spells, I’m… not sure what Banecircle does? In the initial fight, when you meet the White Fangs, it appears to be a point-blank AoE that teleports bits of the enemy away, but in the fight against the twins, it’s not centered on the caster and it creates poisonous vapours? Or did I misread something somewhere?

One good thing from submitting book 1 and book 2 together would be saves.
Saves are no longer given to a book unless the following book has been submitted.

Man i just can’t wait to reunite with leon and say “remember buddy how i saved you from my sister and a bomb well i wonder who’ll save you all from me now”.

So much Leon hostility today :sob: I’ve tried to make my MC mad at him, but ultimately, I get why he felt like it had to be done. Since MC couldn’t say anything, they looked v guilty lol.

I would’ve liked a variation where he said something like “I believe you, but it’s out of my hands” and apologized, since apparently if he hadn’t done something, the church would’ve.

I’m with you, as one of the types of MCs I play is just the too pure for this world, that they still love Leon after being killed, they understood why it had to be done.

Though I do find it a little off if you tell him you won’t forgive him for killing you he punch’s you in the face (I believe) especially odd if you romance him…

Regardless Thalia can go kick rocks.

My poor MC would rather die a thousand deaths than assassinate someone. So when Thalia takes that option away from her just really broke my heart.

Oh? So y’all hate the way the Arcadians are being treated by Parami, WELL so happens my hubby is king I’m sure I can make it work out without havin to assassinate some

Do you think you were what, patting people in the back during the war?

Genocide, slavery, and reservations are, in fact, not featured in the list of “JBento’s top 10 greatest things”, no.

Well, your hubby’s response to catching a dude unleashing a biological weapon on Arcadians (that he was responsible for, to boot) was “woah woah, let’s not be harsh on him”, so I don’t really like your chances.

I want to be behind a blast shield when you suggest to @idonotlikeusernames the possibility that his MC has ANOTHER phantasma running through their veins. :shield:

That’s also something I find odd tbh

That being said my Leon-romancing MC understands why he killed her, but that holiday for her death is still very cringe in her books LOL

I’m also all in for the angst of her calling Leon Leomar after the reunion so I hope it’s a choice later on, heh

Also I can’t wait until my mage can stomp Thalia for enslaving and torturing her and forcing her to do Thalia’s bidding. At least with Leon’s group all the decisions were made by my MC, even if she knew she’d die for her actions to protect everyone.

I’m looking forward to next update, I hope next time we see Saine our mage can hug him though, pretty please? :pray:t2:

We used a secret arcana that put people to sleep when we pat them on the back during the entire war, didn’t you know?

Probably, I like to think that my MC was playing a more supportive role, using glyphs and potions.

I’m sure everyone can agree that those are heinous acts, why would anyone want to automatically lead with violence when there is an option for politics?

Well, your hubby’s response to catching a dude unleashing a biological weapon on Arcadians (that he was responsible for, to boot) was “woah woah, let’s not be harsh on him”, so I don’t really like your chances.

If anything that just proves that he is willing to resolve matters WITHOUT violence. To each their own though.

Ok, you, canonically, were not. Besides the fact that you get an actual scene of Leomar killing a mage after you screwed her over and another where there’s a bunch of crap mages recharging you, it’s why Thalia tells you to stay off magic for a while when she resurrects you - you phantasma’d so much during it that it fucked up your mana ducts to the extreme.

Also, it’s not actually better to keep reloading the gun than pulling the trigger when you know exactly what the gun is going to be fired at.

Dunno, ask the Parami and the Salantirans.

Except it didn’t resolve anything. The Arcadians are still dead and the dude responsible, if he ever got out of jail (which he didn’t, because there’s no way Mireil didn’t fry his ass) would go right back to holding power over the Arcadians whose families he murdered.

Also, pity he didn’t think “no violence” and instead BBQ’d the MC the instant it became convenient, extra crispy, no sauce.

Like I said to each their own, I can tell your very passionate about your ideas, and that’s great.

If I think my MC only killed when they absolutely needed to, the that should also be fine, it’s a CYOA for a reason, that’s how I choose my adventure to be

I hate both. I wish there was option that MC leave that shit and go their own way… Even if that means they will have no relationship with any RO and they will be forever alone~
Unless they manage to find Aunt Bess. One family
