A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED August 7th | Book One Released!

Thank you very much! One of my biggest fears as a writer is losing the reader’s interest as the story drags on, so being told that you read it in one sitting is incredibly validating. :'D

That’s where it’s supposed to take you, don’t worry! You’ll encounter the new content after the talk with King Julius.

I can’t wait to meet Leon how he changed I just hope he still has his beliefs what he believes is right because to me he’s not a bad guy he just has everything on his shoulders

Did a bit of code diving (sorry not sorry). In the first chapter (Inn), during farewell dialogue with Aunt Bess.
I think the second “intrigue” there should be “learning”

#Whatever words I try to say die in my throat. I’m trying really hard not to cry.
Aunt Bess’s lips quirk up into a knowing smile as she sees you struggle for words. “Don’t go crying on me, now.
*if (intrigue = 75)
I know that damn deacon taught you better than that.”
*elseif (intrigue = 75)
I knew hanging around that old bookworm would’ve made you soft."
*else
I should’ve known that crybaby Sofiya would rub off on you."

wow.

First of all, this is a meaty WIP and it really shows how much care was put into this.

second, I like the magic system put here, with clear weaknesses and strengths - although mine was not that combat focused lol (I chose alchemy mostly, and my guy ends up to be useless in battle - I was thinking I can do some fullmetal type of stuff)

A tiny bit of criticism if you don’t mind, sometimes the lore can get a bit overwhelming at times, but maybe it’s just me.

It is highly encouraged to train in two magic schools. Like, you have your main one, and a secondary one that is slightly lower. I have a support character too - Alchemy main and Enchantment secondary, but aside from ONE battle, I can always succeed pretty well with that build (and I adore it).

I’m personally majoring in Thaum and then Alchemy secondary. That was mainly because I liked the spirit for alchemy if I’m honest but I am glad I did this now.

If you work at it well enough, you can pull off three; mine are alchemy, spiritism, enchantment

oh wow, i wasnt aware that people liked alchemy. i always make alchemy my weakest one and i would manage leveling up the rest of the three.

I actually think the worst one is THAUM because it’s way too stereotypical and there isn’t much subtlety to it

I prefer not to because some skill checks are pretty high and I prefer to have a less versatile MC who can manage very high checks.

My MC’s weak point is Spiritism, but with that being said, I never levelled up Thaum a single time, so it stays at 50 - it’s almost like a second weak one I guess

I got three but it was not intentional though. Spiritism is the highest, then Alchemy and then Enchantment.

oh wow. i have spiritism as my highest and thaum as my second. i just think spiritism handles all my problems lmao. i never bother with enchantments since i prefer more agressive spells but i keep forgetting which spell is which and end up accidentally leveling up enchantments. maybe alchemy ain’t so bad? might put in some work to getting it raised up in another playthrough.

Well, Alchemy has some offensive spells, so I basically use it the way other people would use Thaum when it comes to battles, I guess. But the thing is, I built my character as a support mage mainly, because of his personality. So I’m all for strenghtening or healing his teammates or weakening his foes, instead of direct attacks, and the Alchemy/Enchantment combo is perfect for that.
So, you have to be into these kind of things if you want to truly appreciate it.

As a fair warning though, you CAN’T succeed during the bandit encampement fight with Alchemy - that’s basically the only time I was frustrated by my build, since Alchemy is the only school that can’t be used at all for this encounter to even have a small success. Extremely frustrating since I see a lot of ways in which Alchemy could help there, but oh well, I still won’t change my build because of that one battle. It’s way too good outside of that segment.

did you channel the jester god? cuz he has some neat tricks such as negating projectiles and the “no u” spell

You mean Airas? Yes, I chose them. Though I’m unsure as to what you’re referring to

yea! this one is of the main reasons i decided to use spiritism. honestly, it grew on me and your making alchemy grow on me as well lmao. i might play it again maybe thrown enchantment under the bus this time

I managed to get three of them pretty high level. My spiritism was around 87 , alchemy was 78 and Enchantment was around 65. If u use a spell which is not your strongest stat, it increases that stat more I noticed. For example whenever I used thaum it raised it by 8 percent as compared to spiritism which rose only by 2-3 percent. By choosing carefully I believe atleast three of them can be as high as 70s

Looking through the forum it seems Thaum is the least likely to be picked as strongest skill while having Alchemy as one of the two main skills seems to be most common

Correct.
I had spiritism 75
Enchantment 70
And Alchemy 73
So it’s completely doable.
(Took a while to get it right thought)

Yes, it’s because it increases in percentages compared to the “end” of the bar, if that makes sense, from what I see. So naturally, 5% of the remaining 50 to reach 100 (if your stat is at 50) is more than 5% of 30 (if your stat is at 70). It kind of emulates classic RPGs in a way, where the higher level the character is, the more XP they need to level up.

But anyway, I know it’s doable, I just don’t wish to do that, considering I’m fine with two schools, and I want to have two really high stats. I’ll start training Thaum when I reach 91 in Alchemy and 81 in Enchantment. The “ones” are because more often than not you need “more than X” in a stat, for checks, instead of “X or more”. I should reach these levels soon.

There is also the “staying in character” to keep in mind. For example, I could have succeeded in the bandit encampement segment if I selected to heal Ilya with Enchantment, but that wouldn’t fit my character, and I don’t want to sacrifice that for min-maxing stats. Otherwise I don’t have fun anymore.

Well, if we’re sharing what magic schools we chose, I decided to go for Enchantment as my main and Spiritism as my second, with Thaum as my weakest. Funnily enough, in all of my playthroughs I never choose to have Thaum as my primary style, so it’s just sitting there, sadly. (Sorry Thaum :disappointed:)
