A Mage Reborn, Book Two (WIP) - UPDATED August 7th | Book One Released!

Would you like a pet for your mage? Not saying this is something that should absolutely be in game, just interested if anyone would want an animal that you can spend time with or something like that.
I personally already head-canoned my Mage into having a raven that he takes care of from time to time. The raven is very aggressive to everyone except the Mage who he loves to play with :3

I remember reading about spiritist mages summoning some ghostly animals, and I like to think my spiritist focused mage does that! Mostly just to hang out with them, but I think having a therapy ghost dog is right on brand for that mage.

Why not a ghost bear to bring absolute fear to your enemies’ hearts? Psychological warfare.

I think any ghost bear they summoned would be a little too cuddly to make anyone scared! They might make one for their pals to cuddle up with if a mission goes wrong, though. :grinning: Therapy dog… therapy bear.

Give me any emotional support in this story and I’ll take it no questions asked. Considering how much MC has been through I’m honestly surprised at how normal and well-adjusted they are. After all that stuff, one might expect them to seriously need some serious help with serious coping, a perfect role for a trusty dog companion that will unconditionally love and never betray you. You know, like the humans keep doing.

I definitely agree that the MC needs some emotional support of some description (which is why I loved the fireworks scene with Falco  ). An animal companion of some description would be cool. And I’m all for the bear!!!

My mage would love a cat, or a dog, or a rodent of some kind, but also feels like they will never get to be happy, and that it would die horribly or be some kind of trojan horse.

I imagine my MC having a cat. Particularly a black cat (yea original, I know).

Nice choice! Ravens are so cool as well… It would be nice to have a winged companion… Probably an owl , would also be nice. XD

Yeah, something awful would happen to it, for sure. And give the MC one more reason to go out and burn some assholes…

It’s the way no one has said DRAGON yet. So badass. Imagine MC flying into battle on a DRAGON.

Pets, you say? I want an Elyssian beast that looks like a dragon!

Actually, I was about to say it but you beat me to it. But yes, I want a dragon!

Want to see where everyone position is. Don’t talk about it just pick an option in the poll let’s not upset the mods even more. (Sorry about that mess up the auto closing time when setting up the poll this is my first time making one)

  • Support Param
  • Support Arcadian
  • Make peace between both sides though violence
  • Deal with whatever big third-party threat that’s messing around then leave the continent or hide out with Aunt Bess
  • Ah screw it just kill everyone besides Eil and Aunt Bess(or take over the world)

ā€œAh screw itā€¦ā€ but without Eli. I mean, I don’t necessarily want to kill them, but I’d like them to go away and find a purpose in life other than being MC’s babysitter.

Hi everyone, long time no see! This thread tends to pick up at a speed that can be difficult for me to follow and reply to the messages, but rest assured that I read everything that’s been written. Your suggestions, criticisms, and general discussions go directly to my email inbox, and I make sure to note and consider every actionable feedback as fuel to refine the game as development goes on. I apologize for not being more active TT keeping track of inputs across four platforms can be a little difficult.

For now, I have a very important question to ask with regard to the next update. There’s a few options I can go about releasing it:

  1. I release it tomorrow. As promised in the last update, it’s a smaller one numbering at around 15k words. Without delving too much into spoilers, it includes the wrap-up to the Jiasei chapter, one full scene of the next chapter, and 1/2 of another scene (also in the same chapter). This is the update patrons over at Patreon got after I came back from the hiatus. The half-scene, if it releases in this state, assumes romantic entanglement between the mage and Leon, with the friend/comrade portion being written at the time of this writing.
  2. I release it around the end of this month, along with a housekeeping update in which I focus on squashing all the reported bugs for the current demo, and implementing feedback from my beta-testers. This should contain the full version of the aforementioned half-scene, meaning that romantic entanglement between the mage and Leon is no longer assumed.
  3. I release it at the end of the next month, bundling it together with the next update for a total of some 40k words (for reference, this is around 1/3 of Book One when you subtract code from the word count). This will complete the chapter immediately after Jiasei, as well as give a brief intro to the next big arc.

Please let me know which one you all would prefer!

  • Option 1: Release tomorrow (~15k words)
  • Option 2: Release @ end of September (~20k words)
  • Option 3: Release @ end of October (~40k words)

I’ll refrain from commenting on the Arcadia-Param discourse, as usual, but it’s good to see that many of the possible paths forward have their fair share of supporters. :') Thank you for your continued interest!

Inspired by this:

The day where I can finally squash that pest Ante will be the happiest day of my MC’s life.

Anyway, dear author @Parivir , thank you for working tirelessly on this wonderful interactive fiction series. Please keep up the good work. I’ll always be rooting for you.

Reread the demo and noticed how differently Mireil treats MC and Eli as kids.

ā€œFine, fine!ā€ she says, pinching your lips shut. ā€œI’ll behave, alright? Stop that already, you look like an absolute fool.ā€ With MC

Sister’s sigh is annoyed, but all the same she reaches her hand to pat Eli on the head. ā€œVery well, very well. I’ll behave.ā€

 Interesting.

Ive been reading the back and forth action going on this forum and would love to throw in how my MC feels about the situation,

My MC walked into the flames with his head held high and always put people lives ahead of their own. He put his friends first and did his best no matter what anyone said.

When his friend lyon chose a pyre to kill him, of all fucking things the friendship between them burned along with the MC and while he isnt outright mad at him he owes him loyalty.

When he was reserected by the acadians and heard about their cause to take their own lands back he picks up his staff again and hopes to once again find a resolution where no one dies, but push come to shove he’ll backup the people who brought him back.

Random thought: how much y’all wanna bet Ante is part of that secret society that made the moonvein plague? Yes, part of it just Ante hate, but also like? Think about it, you’re a secret society committing atrocities against a group that the ā€œpowers that beā€ are growing sympathetic towards (the Saintess, Leon and Saine (and maybe their brother)), you need allies in good positions. Random landed nobles are well and good pawns, but you need people with leverage. Who has more leverage than the Royal Spymaster? They’re the one who investigates things on behalf of the Crown. King wants this group discovered by the Princes, Saintess-in-Training, and Mage Friend investigated? Just create false leads, some fall guys to take the heat?
I feel like she’s one of them.

I’ve also have the same suspicion on Ante. But so far we don’t really have any evidence of her being a part of the Order of the Broken Flame. We can only speculate until our suspicion is either confirmed or disproved by the author at the later part of the series.

Regardless, a member of the Order or not, I still want her dead.

I do have a question for the people who want to run away from everything though. What’s stopping Thalia from just releasing the spell on you and Eli for your bodies to deal with on your own. Also say you do kill Thalia, unless I’m mistaken, wouldn’t the spell also just release upon her death therefore leaving you in the same place as the first point? I feel like there’s a lot that the Mage would have to figure out to even manage this path, even then Thalia knows what you’re thinking so if you somehow manage to counteract that and she finds out things would just be as bad. Was just thinking about it and was wondering if anyone has any counterpoints in regards to it.
