I think, at the very least, Ilya will get it if the MC didn’t ask her to forgive Leon.
That said, if they don’t understand the need to destroy Leon after what he did to the MC, then screw them. I have no problem killing them too, if they want to defend that dick.
I sort of wonder if deciding to kill Leon and side with Arcadia will make him think his initial assumptions about you (that you were supporting Arcadia, or at least sympathetic to their cause) were right, or if he will think that you never planned to do so, and that this is because of your desire for revenge against him…
One of my mages is doing it because they have always been sympathetic to Arcadia and wanted to learn more, and the execution was just the final push for them to go “fuck, I really was on the wrong side”, while another of mine is straight up doing it because they can’t bring themself to care about anyone who hurts them… Ah, the joy of drama. I’m really excited to see how the Parami and Arcadian characters feel about the mage and their possible new views on the world.
For me, Leon isn’t the only threat to deal with from Param, it’s also the Church of Jove that demonized the Arcadians and Ilya is heavily devoted to their order from what it seems so it might be hard for her to break away from that but then again, it could be easier for her since she probably would realize that what she learned in the Church was just a lie to make Param look good so it’d put her into a weird position.
I never got a feel from Ilya that she is devoted to the Church. Someone being devoted would probably be less okay with their friend/lover killing their religious figure, if you ask me. She immediately decided to try and rescue us and even after hearing the truth from us - she still wants to go with that plan
Oh no, I can totally see that. It’s been a whole year and a half after our death and Ilya becoming new Saintess, I bet she already sees some fishy things going on inside the church.
I would say that she’s smart enough to know that there was more to the story than what the general public and the people close believes. And not to mention that her religious beliefs will be shattered once the truth about the Church comes out but I think it’s more likely that she stays with them and actually reforms it once she somehow gets the full story of what happened.
He can’t think anything once he’s a pile of ash. But my MC will be happy to explain to him that the reason she now sides with Arcadia is him and his actions. If he doesn’t believe it for the ten minutes he’s burning to death, who cares. He didn’t believe the MC he supposedly loved when she said she was innocent, either, so his opinions are worth a pile of dog crap to her.
The church predates the war with Arcadia and the demonization dogma is being largely phased out. The church has been trying to bury the hatchet, I don’t think it needs to burn.
That’s where we agree to disagree. I’m not saying it has to be destroyed completely but it has to be reformed or be gone because they helped the Param king take care of the Arcadians by spreading lies about them being demon worshippers so the truth has to come out that they were the betrayers, not the Arcadians and allow the general public to do what they will with the information. They are the part of the problem that Arcadia is currently facing
I don’t see it as reform, more like hiding from the past out of shame plus they haven’t discovered or told the actual events if they knew already. And when that happens, then I will see it as actual reform.
I don’t understand that perception at all. They’ve been eliminating the “demon worshiper” rhetoric and suppressing their fundamentalist rhetoric, and funding massive humanitarian efforts in both Param and Silantar. The Saintess was organizing such efforts when Sister attacked.
I think there is a difference between revealing the truth to the public and trying to make amends to them and just trying to hide everything under a rug while people who never actually did anything that you accuse them of have to suffer for it.
Doesn’t matter if they are trying to do something now. The baron situation showed us that the Church does very little for arcadians at the moment.
From my perspective, the questions I ask about them is this.
1.) Do they know why the past priests and Saintesses called Arcadians demon worshippers or did they just go with what their gospel told them and treats it as the truth?
2.) Why are they phasing it out right now? Because of the previous Saintess was an Arcadian and she didn’t tell anyone, therefore influencing Ilya without her realizing it?
3.) This is the most important thing that I ask myself, what will they do after someone finds a scroll with the actual events and goes “holy shit you guys have to see this”, will they burn it or show it to Ilya who will absolutely reveal it to the public?
I presume that last bit will involve our choices. As for the others, the war happened a while ago. Burning the church now dies nothing. It’s just brutal cultural suppression. The Church doesn’t exist just to justify war crimes, that’s not how churches work. The Church is no better or worse than the Arcadian faith.
And an Arcadian Saintess demonstrates that many Arcadians are Jovian. What right do we have to force them to return to the old ways?
My mc has had about enough of the parasites…he’s not going to feed yet another one.
Assumes the mc wants to manage it. There is a line between active suicide and just letting nature take its course…the latter is where my mc would be.
Probably not, they’re parasites.
Mc and Eli were younger, mc was so young that they were still a prisoner even after ostensibly being “rescued” as the mc was apparently a ward of the court with almost no power to act, probably before reaching some stupid age of maturity, although sister’s plans would have made sure that the mc never would have gotten their inheritance either way.
He never got to because sister brainwashed him first.
I think, as shown in the lesson flashback, my mc absolutely loathed his time as a powerless ward of the court with none of the freedoms of sister or even the more limited freedoms Eli seems to have had because of their stupidly young age.
2 reasons, when that fight happens mc is in good condition both physically and mentally for one of the few times in their life, and more importantly they are not forced to use parasite magic. Using the parasites is what overtaxes the mc’s entire magic system (those mana ducts) and afterwards makes even using normal spells far more exhausting than it needs to be.
Presumably because eli does not know how to get his passenger to do that. From the implications in one of the conversations my mc, through Nyx, should theoretically be able to heal his own leg as Nyx’s death powers are implied to have an inverse set of life powers too, that we cannot get her to use on our behalf.
This Eli is doing, but every time the mc is forced to use a parasite it undoes most of their work. In other words it is like mopping a wet floor while the shower is running.
My mc wants nothing to do with either side, he just wants to get out and live out the rest of whatever life he has left in Leaf’s end as an innkeeper’s “son”, with maybe one or two steps along the way.
For the second time, I’m not saying it has to be destroyed. But right now, I don’t see the point of continuing this conversation since we’re just agreeing to disagreeing on this. Everyone has their opinions and that’s fine.
