this is apropos of absolutely nothing, but i think about how leon hits mc if they tell him they’ll never forgive him in the dungeon literally every single day since i read that scene. closed fist and everything dog. what a viscerally painful and brilliant moment. one of my absolute favorite things in amr is getting to see leon’s anger go from a whisper to a scream over the course of book 1–i absolutely would not have guessed it reading his first couple of scenes, but the build-up was so smartly done from his rare moments of snapping at the mage (i.e. they can tell him they don’t want to abandon the plague village and he basically tells them to remember their place) to rage in battle (chasing after the salantir after killing the priestess to the point that saine has to snap him out of it) to him being so furious at the mage after they kill the saintess he can’t think clearly.
i dunno i guess it’s hard to imagine exactly how it feels to be burned alive by people you loved, but i can wrap my head around getting punched in the face by your boyfriend. it’s just brutal to read, but i think it was a really brave character choice that i found emotionally gripping. i think the atrocities enhance him, personally!
I wouldn’t put that past Tahlia. The MC and Eli both are now pretty much at her mercy since their resurrected bodies are reliant on her nearly infinite supply of mana to keep them going. We saw what happens in the escape scene when Tahlia “releases” the MC from her mana supply and let the MC’s body bear the Song of the Dead on its own. Although I imagine the MC’s escaping Mireil’s capture or murder for nearly a decade probably wasn’t something she foresaw.
That’s because those Arcadian missions forced the MC to use their arcana(s), often more than once, when using arcana once is enough to render any mage exhausted to the brink of death. During their time as a member of the White Fangs and later as Leon’s retainer, before the war with Salantira, the MC only used “ercei” spells which don’t consume too much mana.
Otherwise, you make valid points. I’m also not happy that Tahlia allowed Mireil to do all the horrible things she did which eventually led to the MC’s death. Which is why I want to help my MC and Eli both to escape Arcadia, peacefully if possible. But if I have to kill Tahlia to escape, then I’ll do it.
PS: By the way, is it just me? Or does anyone else have not been able to edit their posts since several days ago?
I have that happen to me once. I had like 5 edits on one comment but I could not see them even after trying to restart/update the site. I don’t know if it was something on my end or was is the forum glitching so, unless you can’t edit your posts at all, I’ll assume its a connection problem.
Every part of the unraveling of the relationship is amazing and also makes me want to scream, cry, and scream some more. Just the sheer tragedy of it. The way neither of them has a choice in it and yet are both hurting each other just
In Book 1 its says that the four phantasma are ill-fitting. Would it be possibe to get a perfect phantasma for our mage in the next book? I think it would be interesting. And I wish we had more interactions with them too! Like I get that its basically adding 4 news characters but it would be interesting.
That’s Book 2, actually. But yeah, I’m hoping the MC will find their perfect phantasma soon. But that also begs the question: will the MC be able to release those four ill-fitting phantasmas? Because Tahlia did say having four phantasmas is really taxing on the MC’s mana duct. And now the MC has five with the newest addition; Earthsworn. I can’t imagine the price the MC will have to pay in the long run.
By the way, I’m wondering if it is possible for the MC to have their old injury healed if we so choose? While most people probably don’t care about a scarred face, I think most would want to have their MCs’ brain damage or broken knee healed.
From what I understand, our MC technically can use all 5 phantasmas, its just that using anything that’s not Earthsworn and the chosen Phantasma in book 1 will immediately fry our mana ducts to the point we wont be able to use them anymore. There are so many spells for each Phantasma in this game that, I cant say for certain, but I don’t think Parivir plans to add even more for our personal use. What I think will happen, is that at some point in the plot we will have a choice to do something with out mana ducts/overall mana to be able to use those phantasmas indefinitely, obviously at some sort of cost (easiest would be having a life limit from some sort of curse or something like that).
To be fair, I like the way it is. If you want to save all 7 children - gonna have to pay in some sort of way. I don’t know about other injuries since I always choose the scar, but that alone already has some flavored text from Y at the beginning of Book 2.
Also, if Parivir chooses to leave the character re-creation as it is, you can always choose an injury to your own liking, without having to live with the stat reduction as well
Tahlia did say in the beginning of Book 2 that the MC should refrain from using their phantasma until she can get Eli to heal their mana ducts completely
The reason why Our Mana-tapes are like that is because we did nothing but use our Phantasma for 5 years for the war-effort. If mage used it more sparingly, it wouldn’t come to that. What I meant is that if, at any moment during Book 1, our Mage decided to use other 3 Phantasmas that weren’t chosen, their mana-ducts would immediately stop working to the point they wouldn’t be able to use mana anymore.
Actually, I think it’s the exact opposite. Tahlia did say in the beginning of Book 2 that the MC should refrain from using their phantasma until she can get Eli to heal their mana ducts completely. She even cautioned the MC of using powerful spells, because even those could damage their mana ducts further. Only normal or “ercei” spells are truly safe to use.
As for the injury, I also chose scarred face since I think it has the least impact on anything. The second one would be the knee injury. The one I have the hardest time accepting is the brain impairment, since it impairs the MC’s ability to learn things quickly.
Anyway, which do you think is the funniest moment in Book 1? For me, I think it is using self-made truth serum on the Baron of House de Silcur during the Moonvein Plague arc. The part where the Baron tries but fails to stop the truth from spewing out of his mouth is just hilarious.
For me, if you romanced Ilya, the funniest moment would have to be Saine tackling Leon then teleporting then you immediately hear a big yelp coming from Leon. All because he couldn’t even read the room and that annoyed Saine cause Saine knew what was gonna happen.
LMAO! I didn’t know that, because my MC hasn’t romanced anyone so far. It seems that Saine, despite being an ace, has more tact and awareness than his big brother Leon.
Ok, but why did I just realize that the reason Thalia “took a risk” on MC over Mireil is because MC has four phantasma to lose forever compared to Mireil having one?
I mean she sees him as a tactical advantage, a powerful mage. I don’t think she’s ever had sentimental attachment to him, more likely to have sentimental attachment to Mir considering her flashbacks. so yeah. Thalia is an intelligent person, I can give her that much even if I’m going to betray her in the end.
Just a silly little thought I’ve been thinking about: Since Tahlia, Yu, F, and the MC are of the Mateus bloodline, that means they’re essentially relatives, right? Distant relatives, perhaps, but still relatives. And since they are related by blood, I find the possibility of romancing either Yu or F… kinda strange.
Incidentally, I have this thought because my MC shares the same hair colour with Yu (my MC has auburn hair, which is still a type of red hair) and the same eye colour with F. At first I thought their similar hair and eye colours are related to our choices from the MC’s creation(shared genetics), but then I tried a different random MC with different hair and eye colours just to confirm my suspicion, and I found that it was just crazy coincidence. Nevertheless, when I played the Book 2 demo for the first time and Yu tried to hit on the MC at the beginning, I was like, “Er… you do realise that we’re relatives, right?” No matter how charming Yu can be, sharing the same bloodline with them is a no no when it comes to romance for me.
Almost all people are connected by blood in one way or another. There is nothing strange or wrong here, considering how many time have passed since fall of Arcadia and Mateus bloodline.
